Revenge Begins: Reincarnated as a Hated Idol! - Chapter 105: The Heartfelt Pitch
The following day, Livia was sitting in his room, informing Aren about the drama’s situation.
"The script you selected wasn’t from a drama production. It’s from a novelist who wrote a novel with the same name and now wants to have it adapted into a drama."
Aren’s eyes widened slightly in surprise, not expecting the script to not even have a drama crew ready.
"Then why is he sending the script to me? Shouldn’t he approach production houses and platforms to pitch his script for a drama adaptation?"
Usually, the novelists weren’t the ones to pitch their dramas for adaptations; instead, it would be production companies that see potential in their novel and then adapt it into a drama format.
Moreover, what was he, a rookie actor, supposed to do when a production crew hadn’t even been assembled?
If he were an established A-Lister, then he might’ve had the influence and connections to gather a crew himself; however, at his current level, it was difficult.
"He sent his script to many platforms and production houses, but..." Livia paused and let out a sigh. "He didn’t even receive a response from many of them, while some rejected him without giving a proper explanation. Most probably, his script wasn’t even considered properly since only popular writers get that privilege."
"Moreover, platforms and production houses receive hundreds of scripts every week, and that too, from dramas that are already in production or have a cast ready to shoot."
She shrugged, "With only a script, there were even fewer chances for his novel to be considered."
"Even you might’ve skipped his script if you knew about it beforehand." Livia added indifferently.
Aren remained silent for a while, glossing over what to do next.
’Should I just choose a different script?’
But his heart wanted him to play that role. He wasn’t going to go against his heart.
’Then, if I’m not going to change my decision... I’ll need to meet this novelist in person first to make my decision.’
Deciding that, he instructed Livia to take him to meet the novelist.
Livia called the novelist and arranged a meeting. He was happy to agree upon finding out that Aren wanted to meet him.
Soon, Aren was sitting in a private room of a four-star hotel, which Livia had booked. Soon the novelist, a man in his late twenties, arrived as well, and after exchanging formal greetings, they began the important conversation.
Aren was the first to speak.
"I’ll be frank. I like the script a lot and would like to play the lead role."
As soon as the novelist named Shane Willis heard that, his face lit up with excitement, erasing the previous nervous expression he carried.
"Thank you. Thank you. Your words mean a lot to me." He bowed his head and expressed his gratitude.
Aren didn’t know what to say in response, so he just waited for Shane to raise his head and calm down.
After he thought that he could speak, he asked, "Your story is so good; then how come you’re not approached for an adaptation? Did your novel not perform well?"
Since there were many novels getting adapted into a drama, Aren felt a novel with a story as great as his should’ve been popular.
Hearing his question, a bitter smile spread across Shane’s lips.
"It’s not that simple for a novel to become popular. Many novels with great stories get overshadowed by mediocre ones just because they weren’t highly promoted or weren’t noticed by readers."
He raised his head, his smile turning genuine.
"But I don’t feel any regret despite that. My novel, though not read by many, still has loyal fans who would like to see the story get the recognition it deserves. I do not want my novel to get adapted to earn money or fame; I only want the story to reach a wider audience. That would be enough for me."
Aren stared at him, impressed by his genuine love for his novel.
After a few moments of silence, Aren nodded with a smile.
"I understand."
He paused momentarily and then asked, "Why did you send the script to me, though? Normally, the crew is gathered first and then the cast."
"Because you suit the main character perfectly." Shane answered with a sincere smile. "When I saw you play Shin, I was half convinced, but after seeing you stand up for your co-actor without caring about the consequences, that’s when I decided that only you were appropriate for this role."
He paused as his smile widened.
"So, I listened to my heart and sent the script directly to you."
Aren was convinced by his answer...
He finally decided.
...He was playing this role.
"Alright then. Let’s go and get your novel an adaptation." Aren rose up to his feet and said.
Shane was dumbfounded.
Was it that easy?
But as he followed Aren, he found himself sitting in an office.
It was an office with minimal furniture, with the mahogany worktable as the most noticeable piece of furniture in the whole room.
In front of him sat Ember Sunburn, the beautiful heiress and chairwoman of Sun Films.
Of course, Shane had seen her in the live press conference with Aren and Lisa; however, he didn’t think she was on such good terms with Aren.
Aren had walked into the office as if he was strolling in a park, without a hint of nervousness on his face. Moreover, Ember’s secretary didn’t even stop them from entering despite their unannounced visit.
Now, even Ember had welcomed him with a friendly smile on her face, as if he had done her some huge favor or helped her make profit in some way.
Currently, she was reading the script he had written and sent to Aren.
Meanwhile, Aren was sitting with a calm expression, contrary to him, who was all nervous and sweating bullets.
It was as if his exam papers were being corrected by his teacher in front of his eyes, and he was waiting for his result to be announced.
However, after Ember finished reading, her words calmed him down.
"It’s a good script."
"...but I don’t think this should be your next drama, Aren."
Shane’s heart fell as he heard that, cold water pouring over all his expectations.
