Chapter 125: Motive Unveiled

Arol iterated everything he had previously told Aren.

In front of the cameras, he revealed the truth he had been trying to make everyone believe.

With tears in his eyes, he reminisced about the kindness of his former boss.

With clenched fists, he criticized Juan Moss’ betrayal.

With a frustrated expression, he recounted his experiences with the police.

Everything he wanted to tell the world, he laid bare at this moment.

As soon as he was finished, the reporters began to barrage him with questions.

"Sir, do you know why the chairman killed the former CEO?"

"Why would the chairman kill his friend?"

"Did they have any animosity between one another?"

"What was the motive behind this murder?"

Arol didn’t have any answer, and thus, before he could even attempt to speak, Nathan leaned in to speak into the mic.

"I know the reason..." His gaze turned intense. "Allow me to tell you."

All the reporters immediately turned their attention to Nathan.

...

The morning after Lucian’s crime was exposed by Linda, Nathan received a call on a phone that shouldn’t even ring.

Only the former CEO, the dead Aren Frost, knew this number.

After the CEO died, Nathan had even thought of destroying this phone to not allow the chairman to find out about his location.

However, he couldn’t bring himself to do it.

Maybe the former CEO had left this number with one of his associates to call him in case he died.

With trembling hands, he picked up the call, only to find a young voice speaking from the other side, "Nathan Rave, it’s you, right?"

With a dark expression, he asked, "Who are you and how did you get this number?"

However, as soon as the other person heard his voice, they sounded relieved and friendly towards him.

"Phew, thank god you didn’t get rid of that number. I was worried that if you didn’t pick up the call, I might have to make a trip overseas to get you."

Nathan was confused. This person seemed to recognize his voice; however, Nathan was sure he was hearing this person’s voice for the first time. He was sure this person was a complete stranger to him.

"You still didn’t introduce yourself." He frowned. "Who are you and how did you get this number? Only one person should be aware of this number."

Nathan’s voice was strict and serious, still on his guard against this unknown person.

"I got this number from the former CEO. I was instructed to call you in case he was betrayed by the chairman."

Nathan’s eyes widened as he asked in shock, "What? So he really was killed?"

"Yes. And you need to return to the country fast. A scandal broke out against Titan Crest Entertainment, and this is the perfect time to expose the evidence you hold. I’m sending you the address where I’ll meet you."

Of course, Nathan still wasn’t convinced. It could be the chairman who was trying to lure him back to the country to finish him off.

"How can I trust you? You might be on the chairman’s side?"

"Sigh, you are still so paranoid. Alright, do one thing. Search about the scandal against Titan Crest Entertainment and focus on the person who exposed them. I’ll send you my picture. You’ll trust me once you see my face."

Nathan did as the person on the phone had asked, finding out about the idol-turned-actor Aren Frost and the victims. Later, he received a picture from the same number as the person who had called him.

He opened the picture, and his eyes widened in disbelief.

If it was any other picture, he might’ve thought that it was simply taken from the internet; however, in the picture, Aren was holding a paper with ’Nathan Rave’ written on it.

He didn’t have any other choice but to believe him.

Soon after, he received the address of a mid-tier hotel.

He packed his stuff and flew back to the country the next day, reaching the hotel while coordinating with Aren on the phone.

In the hotel, Aren explained to him his plan.

"You want me to kidnap your father??" Nathan was baffled.

Aren shook his head. "No, Miss Ember’s bodyguards have already kidnapped him. You only need to pretend you kidnapped him. Make him believe that you were the one who kidnapped him."

Then, a slightly evil expression adorned his handsome face as he added, "Also, no need to go easy on him. You need to beat him every day and give him food only once per day. Let him suffer."

He paused momentarily and then continued, "Additionally, call my mother and threaten her while pretending to be from Titan Crest Entertainment. Make her believe her husband is really in danger."

Although Aren explained his reasoning for doing all these things, Nathan still felt Aren had some grudge against these parents of his.

Who makes their parents suffer so much?

However, it was none of his business, and hence, he decided to trust Aren and follow his instructions.

After this, with a solemn face, Nathan asked the same question as the reporters.

"Just why did the chairman kill the CEO? Weren’t they best friends? Even after I gave him the evidence against the chairman, the CEO forgave him despite how furious he was. I could see how guilty he felt over that woman and her child’s death and regarding not being able to help them get justice."

At that moment, Aren had revealed the truth to him.

...

Nathan spoke into the mic:

"The chairman killed the CEO because of two reasons."

"Love and money."

The reporters, wearing confused expressions, gulped, staring at Nathan as if pleading him to continue.

Nathan’s expression turned solemn as he continued:

"The CEO, on the day of his anniversary, discovered the affair between his wife and the chairman. Of course, since his bodyguards had betrayed him, he couldn’t escape dying at the chairman’s hands."

"This was the first reason—Love."

He paused, looking at the reporters who had their eyes widened at this revelation. They now understood why the chairman killed his friend.

He, with a somber expression, continued:

"The second reason: money is pretty simple."

"The former CEO held 30% shares of Titan Crest Entertainment, which were valued at 140 billion at the time. That means he owned 42 billion in shares alone. The chairman wanted to keep those shares under his control and thus got the CEO killed, disguising it as an accident."

"Now, the CEO’s wife inherited those shares, ultimately landing the shares in the chairman’s lap."
