Revenge Begins: Reincarnated as a Hated Idol!
Chapter 127: Courtroom Veil
This case was getting the priority of every government department, and hence, new revelations came to light one by one over time.
The first revelation came the same day in the evening. It was the name of the official who had been incharge of both murder cases.
Deputy Chief of Police, incharge of Blemure City—Karter Moyer.
The news networks aired many programs featuring interviews that their anchors conducted with the cops, asking them for information on the two cases.
In both cases, Karter Moyer had been the official responsible, someone who could use his power to influence the investigation.
Many cops who had been involved in the investigation even came clean to the reporters, revealing that it was indeed Karter Moyer who ordered them to wrap up the investigation quickly.
Most of these cops acted righteous and cursed their helplessness over being unable to do anything at the time.
However, it was clear that Karter Moyer had been made the scapegoat by the police department.
After all, it was better if only one man was blamed of corruption instead of the whole department.
Of course the superiors had been involved as well; however, they weren’t going to admit it, right?
By now, they had abandoned both Neil and Karter to save themselves.
The following day, Karter Moyer was officially terminated from his post and, in front of the press, was made to admit his mistakes.
Numerous police officials and even politicians criticized his behavior on the podium, defending the police department’s dignity.
However, people weren’t satisfied.
[What? So you remove him from his post, and that’s it? No punishment for what he did?]
[He should be arrested as well! How are you letting him leave scot-free?]
[What about the bribes he took? Do a proper investigation on his finances and accounts!]
[The government and police department are really pathetic. Why can’t they do a proper investigation for once?]
As for the officials who had spoken big and gave long speeches, they were being trolled on the internet along with the politicians for being incompetent and for solely being good at bragging.
Obviously, the politicians couldn’t let their reputations get damaged, and thus, they pushed for a proper investigation on Karter Moyer.
Some rather unknown politicians began organizing campaigns to ask for proper investigation and justice. They wanted to shine and leave a good impression on the public through these stunts.
Soon, news came that Karter Moyer had been arrested on numerous charges.
There was even evidence of taking bribes from numerous people over the years of his tenure as deputy chief of police.
Of course, no names were revealed about who gave those bribes to him.
Then, the following day, at the request of the public, the court trial of Neil’s case was held live for everyone to see.
Usually, court trials take months to even begin properly, but since it was such a high-profile case, the courts had to give priority to it.
As for the case itself, Neil’s side had spent generous amounts of money to hire one of the best lawyers in the country.
However, to Neil’s surprise, the opposition had hired one of the legendary lawyers, someone you couldn’t hire through money.
This lawyer was exclusive to Sun Group, and it was baffling to see him on the opposite side.
Even his lawyer was tensed upon seeing him.
Firstly, Neil was a public enemy, so representing him was already damaging to his reputation.
But now he also had to face a legendary attorney.
Meanwhile, Aren watched the trial on his phone in the breaks between filming for My Heiress.
He could only spot Neil, Neil’s son; Amelia; and Neil’s wife—June Valcourt—on his side, supporting him.
Iris was pretending to be unconscious in the hospital so she couldn’t be here. Simultaneously, Selene and Ariana were attending the university, and they weren’t really required to be present.
The trial went on for more than five hours.
Neil’s side presented this argument:
"It’s all a lie. That woman, Judah Hunt, never had any affair with my client, Mr. Neil Valcourt, nor did she carry his child. There is no proof that says otherwise. Also, in the video, those bodyguards belong to my client, yes. But... they were never given any order to kill Miss Judah by my client. They acted on their own."
Neil and his lawyer were counting on the fact that there was no evidence that proved the bodyguards killed Judah Hunt on Neil’s orders.
Moreover, by denying the affair accusations and pregnancy, the lawyer was trying to remove the motive behind the murder. If Neil didn’t have an affair, he didn’t have any reason to kill her.
To prove his words, they even called the leader of the bodyguards, the same man who killed the woman in the video.
This man was one of the two bodyguards who had pinned Aren in his past life when he charged at Neil upon discovering his affair with his wife.
The lawyer asked the bodyguard. "Why did you kill Miss Judah Hunt? Was it on the orders of my client?"
The bodyguard shook his head. "No. I lied to my subordinates about the boss giving those orders. Instead, it was me who wanted to kill her. We both had an affair, and she was pregnant with my child. I was afraid that my wife would find out about it, so I decided to get rid of her silently." 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
But when the legendary lawyer cross-questioned him, the clumsiness behind his words was revealed.
"You said you were the one who killed Miss Judah. And Mr. Neil didn’t know anything about it, correct?"
The bodyguard nodded.
The legendary lawyer smiled through the corner of his lips as if he had him in his trap.
"Then tell me this. How come the investigation revealed nothing and was disguised as suicide? Are you really a man with such connections?"
The bodyguard looked at Neil’s lawyer for clues, and Neil’s lawyer nodded calmly as an answer.
"I knew Mr. Karter through the chairman." The bodyguard said, "I follow him around after all. I just asked Mr. Karter for this favor and paid him some money in return."
The bodyguard knew that with the evidence video, he wouldn’t escape the punishment.
However, by taking the blame on himself, he could help Neil escape without any harm.
In return, Neil will help his family live well and take care of his children’s future.
Eventually, Judah’s case didn’t go anywhere since neither side could prove anything.
Neil couldn’t prove his innocence, while the legendary lawyer could not provide any definitive evidence that could prove that Neil was definitely involved in the murder of Judah.
This specific trial was adjourned until next week to allow both sides to gather evidence to prove what they respectively claimed.
Immediately after, Aren Frost’s murder trial was conducted, where Arol appeared as the witness and gave his testimony in the court.
Nathan appeared as well soon after, accusing Neil of coveting Aren’s wife and shares.
In response, Neil’s lawyer called Amelia as a witness.
"Mrs. Frost, is it true you were having an affair with my client?"
Amelia shook her head with teary eyes, her voice trembling. "No. I’ve never even touched a man other than my husband. He was my beloved. The person I loved the most in this world."
