Chapter 129: Efforts

Since the whole crew of My Heiress was interested in watching the court trial live, the director announced that there was no shooting today, allowing Aren to watch the trial in peace.

However, there was still about an hour left until the trial began streaming.

Thus, to pass the time, he decided to pay Lisa a visit.

She had taken a separate room adjacent to his in order to rehearse her scenes in isolation.

Moreover, it was more convenient. Now she had a separate washroom and private space.

Only at night would she return to his room to snuggle into his arms.

She said she couldn’t sleep without him anymore, though he doubted it.

Still, he felt pleased that she made such excuses to sleep with him.

After the system called him mediocre in bed (all in his head; system never said anything of the sort), he felt more pleased to show the system how he had charmed Lisa.

If he was so mediocre, why was she so eager to sleep with him?

Feeling satisfied with himself, he knocked on Lisa’s door, which shortly opened, and Lisa welcomed him inside with a smile.

"Aren, you came at the right time. Can you please give me pointers to help improve my acting?" She asked, her big hazel brown eyes staring him with that hopeful, pleading gaze of hers, which almost resembled a child.

Since the first day of the shoot, Lisa had been feeling the burden of playing the lead role. Everyone had high expectations of her.

However, her acting skills were just subpar. If she couldn’t improve them, she might let the whole crew down.

Thus, she began practicing scenes from that day onwards, trying hard to improve her acting to reach a level that wouldn’t appear comedic when compared to someone like Aren.

She had watched The Insiders.

In it, it wasn’t that Theon was particularly bad at acting.

It was just that, whenever he shared the scenes with Ryan Black and Luna Veil, a viewer couldn’t help but make comparisons.

Even she only noticed the difference in their acting levels whenever they appeared in a scene together.

And from that experience, she knew that she too would be compared to Aren, and it was terrifying.

Aren was like an acting genius. She even felt that his skills had improved after he began shooting for My Heiress.

If he was great before, now he is unbelievable.

He even seemed more handsome and attractive.

She didn’t know why, but she found herself dazed from time to time while looking at him.

And she wasn’t alone. She noticed that almost everyone seemed to be unable to take their eyes off him.

It was as if everyone were background characters, and he was the male lead, with a spotlight shining on him all the time.

She felt too inferior to him.

Fearing that she wasn’t deserving of Aren, she decided to work hard toward her acting ability to not let him down.

She needed to prove to him that she could improve.

Thus, she asked him to look over her acting and point out mistakes and improvements.

This way, he would notice her efforts while also helping her improve. After all, it was better for him if her acting skills increased, considering she was playing the female lead in his drama.

"Alright. Show me." Aren nodded and said, moving to sit on the chair in the room.

Lisa acted out the scene she had to film tomorrow.

In this scene, she sees one of her classmates flaunting a fake-brand handbag to her female friends.

She ignores it at first, but Ava Baker, who was working part-time in the same restaurant as a waitress, is tripped by this classmate.

She then gets insulted by this arrogant classmate—calling her a gold-digging bitch who entrapped Luke Wartz in her honey trap and was still eyeing the student council president, Klis Ether.

Lisa’s character, Elise, gets annoyed by her, and exposes the fake handbag, calling her a pretend rich girl when she wasn’t.

Then she flaunts her own real handbag, showing her what true class is, embarrassing the arrogant classmate in front of her friends.

However, Lisa was having problems portraying Elise’s superiority complex, which Elise had developed through her heiress childhood.

The character was miles apart from the real Lisa.

In To Your Heart, Leah was a character who was caring and cute, just like Lisa. She didn’t need to push herself to play that character since they were alike and she could understand Leah’s feelings.

However, Lisa had never interacted with luxury handbags, nor was she arrogant enough to pull off a convincing performance.

She was pretending, and due to her lacking abilities, that became evident despite her best efforts.

Her body language was a dead giveaway, giving Aren the feeling that she was just pretending, something that shouldn’t happen when an actor acts.

After all, every movie a viewer watches.

Every drama they see.

The viewer is aware that nothing is real.

They know that the actor on the screen is just playing a character and only pretending.

Even then they become engrossed and choose to believe what they are watching isn’t acting.

However, if the acting looks forced, this illusion breaks.

And allowing the illusion to shatter... is something unacceptable.

No matter what, the illusion shouldn’t break; otherwise, the magic fades away.

"So, how was it?" After Lisa finished, she turned to see Aren’s unreadable expression, asking with a nervous smile.

She knew it was just barely acceptable.

Even while she acted those scenes, she felt an uncomfortable current running inside her, as if her cells were screaming for her to stop.

As if this wasn’t who she was. She wasn’t arrogant or rich, and she couldn’t make the audience believe otherwise.

"It’s passable," Aren said without any change in his calm expression. "If the director makes use of some perfect angles to hide the awkward expressions, showing the reactions of others while you are speaking the dialogues, and the editor uses some sound effects and editing to elevate the performance, it can be acceptable."

"However," Aren said, his gaze turning serious. "You can do better."

"And let me tell you how."
