Chapter 273: Chapter 272: If They Don’t Dare, I Will

’Run? Hell no. Against a guy like that, charging in again is just asking for a beatdown!’

Thinking this, the two men knew what was good for them and walked back.

A smile touched Fang Chenyi’s lips at the sight. ’That’s more like it.’

Once everyone had settled down, Fang Chenyi gave his future father-in-law a thumbs-up, who in turn, returned the gesture.

Fang Chenyi was amazed by his future father-in-law’s skill, and Bai Zhenhua was just as shocked by Fang Chenyi’s prowess. In his youth, Bai Zhenhua had served in the air force and even placed third in the combat category of the all-military martial arts competition. Even after joining the workforce, he had insisted on daily training. He had originally thought he might need to step in at a critical moment to help his future son-in-law, but he never imagined the young man would be so much stronger than these old bones of his!

It was because of today’s events that Bai Zhenhua’s gaze on Fang Chenyi filled with even greater satisfaction. ’This son-in-law of mine... he’s simply impeccable. Not only is he handsome and polite, but he’s also immensely capable, having built this massive enterprise all on his own. He’s completely devoted to my daughter, and now, he’s even revealed such incredible fighting skills!’

Bai Zhenhua was certain that with the skills Fang Chenyi had just demonstrated, he would have easily taken first place in the old military competition.

Walking back to the podium, Fang Chenyi looked down at the crowd. Some wore dumbfounded expressions, while others were clearly gloating. He sighed helplessly before turning to Ma Dacheng, who stood beside him, and said:

"Go through the legal channels. Call the police."

After receiving his instructions, Ma Dacheng acknowledged the order and left the conference room.

At this moment, Fang Chenyi held up the documents in his hand and addressed the room.

"Embezzling a massive amount of company funds... having nearly the entire leadership of the finance department, from top to bottom, collude to falsify the books... Heh, I have to say, I’m impressed. Unfortunately for you, the arm of the law is long. You may have enjoyed a few years of luxury, but the price you’re about to pay is the rest of your lives!"

As he spoke, Fang Chenyi’s tone grew serious, his voice turning icy. His words weren’t just for the corrupt executives; they were a clear warning to all the managers who were about to be promoted.

The room erupted into an uproar once more after Fang Chenyi finished speaking. Everyone was stunned. While they knew the higher-ups were lining their pockets, they never imagined that a staggering ninety-nine percent of them were involved.

About ten minutes later, more than a dozen police cars suddenly pulled into the corporate campus courtyard. This sparked a wave of confusion and curiosity among the employees. With all the managers in the meeting, everyone could only crane their necks and whisper amongst themselves.

The police cars screeched to a halt, doors flew open, and twenty to thirty officers stormed into the main building. They ignored the receptionist’s questions and made a beeline straight for the elevators.

Fortunately, the building had plenty of elevators, and they all made it up to the twenty-ninth floor in a single trip.

The doors to the conference room were pushed open from the outside by Qi Xiaotian, and dozens of police officers filed in behind him.

They didn’t start making arrests right away. Instead, they singled out Lu Zhisen, Wang Badan, the head of finance, and a few other key managers, leading them away separately for questioning. The rest were ordered to remain in the conference room.

The flash interrogations yielded results in just over ten minutes.

The lead officer re-entered the conference room holding a stack of papers. He nodded at Fang Chenyi before speaking.

"Mr. Fang, we’ve compiled a preliminary list of names. We’ll be taking these individuals into custody now."

Fang Chenyi nodded. "Thank you for your hard work."

The officer gave Fang Chenyi a curt nod before turning to face the rest of the room, his tone stern.

"I’m going to read out a list of names. When your name is called, step forward. Wu Jiangtao!"

As the roll call began, a middle-aged man shuddered and instinctively tried to back away.

But two officers immediately grabbed him. With a sharp CLICK, a pair of cold handcuffs snapped onto his wrists.

"I’ve been framed! I didn’t take any company money!"

The officer rebuked him sternly, "We’ll get to the bottom of this. Right now, you need to cooperate with our investigation!"

About five minutes later, the list had been read in its entirety, and a total of forty-three people were now in custody.

As they watched the arrested individuals being led away by the police, those remaining in the conference room were filled with a mix of complicated emotions.

Fang Chenyi felt much the same. ’I never thought a company could become this rotten,’ he thought. ’I almost feel a little sorry for the previous chairman. To let things get this bad... what a failure.’

The conference room doors closed once more. Staring at the rows where a third of the seats were now empty, Fang Chenyi couldn’t help but feel a twinge of melancholy.

His gaze swept across the remaining attendees as he spoke.

"Alright, that Chapter is closed. There’s no need for any of you to feel uneasy. In fact, for everyone still in this room, this is a good thing. Now, as I mentioned earlier, all department deputies are hereby promoted to department heads. Go on, find your new seats."

Fang Chenyi had his reasons for doing this. The joy of their unexpected promotions would distract them from dwelling on what had just happened, encouraging them to dive into their new roles immediately. This would also help minimize the disruption to the company’s operations.

Just as he’d expected, upon hearing his words, the terrified expressions on the faces of those who remained were replaced with looks of sheer excitement.

One by one, they rose and walked over to sit in the seats they had only ever dreamed of occupying.

In an instant, the oppressive atmosphere in the conference room eased considerably.

Fang Chenyi watched as the empty seats filled up again and nodded in satisfaction. ’Everyone has their price,’ he thought. ’There’s nothing a little self-interest can’t solve. I’m sure this massive overhaul will get the company back on the right track!’

He pointed to an empty seat in the third row and asked:

"Why is no one sitting in the seat for the Head of the Human Resources Department?"

As soon as he finished speaking, a woman in her early thirties, now seated as the new Head of the Propaganda Department, spoke up.

"Chairman, the head and deputy head of the Human Resources Department, along with their three team leaders, were all taken away."

Fang Chenyi was taken aback. ’The entire HR department leadership, huh? That’s really something else. They got a clean sweep.’

Shaking his head in resignation, he looked over at the newly promoted mid-level managers and said:

"In that case, we can’t just promote a regular staff member directly to department head. We’ll have to choose from among you mid-level managers. Is anyone interested in the position? Feel free to nominate yourself."

His words hung in the air as everyone looked around at each other. They all knew the Human Resources Department was the most ’lucrative’ position in the company, a place ripe with opportunity. For that very reason, no one dared to be the first to speak up. But there was one exception:

"Heh. Since they’re all too scared, how ’bout you let me do it, Chairman?"
