Richest Rag-picker
Chapter 59: Making a Fortune in the Dead of Night
"No, no, make it rare. Actually, completely raw is fine too!"
After saying that, Fang Chenyi couldn’t help but grumble inwardly, ’Damn it. That’s what you get for interrupting my fun...’
"Uh... Sir, are you sure?"
The waiter was a bit dumbfounded. ’Didn’t this gentleman just say he only eats his steak well-done because raw meat has parasites? Why is he asking for it raw now?’
Other diners, one of whom had just asked the waiter to re-cook their own steak, overheard and cast puzzled glances at Fang Chenyi, not understanding why the guy had suddenly changed his tune.
Bai Menghan, sitting beside him, shot Fang Chenyi an annoyed look. Of course, she knew why he was asking for a rare steak. He was definitely getting petty revenge on the waiter.
"Don’t listen to him. Just one eighty-eight-yuan steak set is fine. Make it well-done, please."
"Hmph, fine, fine. Make it well-done then. Don’t get the eighty-eight-yuan one, just get the same as hers. Alright, you can go."
He waved his hand, ordering another of the better steaks from the waiter.
"Right away, sir and ma’am. Please wait just a moment."
The waiter acknowledged the order and hurried off to prepare it.
After the waiter left, Fang Chenyi was still grumbling under his breath.
"Hmph. Interrupting us like that. We should’ve gotten her a raw one. Better yet, we should buy a live cow and let her chase it around and take a bite!"
"Hee hee, look how petty you are. Alright, alright, it’s all your fault anyway, in broad daylight... But, Chenyi, can we not do this in the future?"
As she spoke, Bai Menghan brought the conversation back to their earlier topic. With the waiter present, Fang Chenyi had overruled her twice, and as a woman, she hadn’t tried to speak up a third time. This was also out of respect for Fang Chenyi.
But now, with no outsiders around, Bai Menghan spoke in a low voice.
"Now that we’re together, I feel a little uncomfortable with you spending money on me. I’m not a materialistic woman. Even though you’re rich, that was money you had before you met me. In the future, I’d rather we spend money that we earn together. Do you understand what I mean?"
Fang Chenyi thought for a moment, then nodded very seriously.
"You silly girl. I know you’re a strong woman, but since we’re together, let’s not draw such clear lines, okay? When you act like this, it makes me feel like you’re treating me as an outsider. Like you don’t see me as your husband."
The word "husband" left Bai Menghan speechless. She opened her mouth, but in the end, no words came out. Seeing this, Fang Chenyi gently tapped her on the nose.
"Alright, we’ll do as you say. From now on, we’ll work hard to earn money together and then spend it together, okay?"
After about ten minutes, the waiter returned, carrying a large bag of food.
Leaving the Western restaurant, the two of them leisurely drove back to the apartment building in Century Garden where Bai Menghan rented a place.
"Um, you should probably call your roommate first. It might be a little awkward for me to just go up."
After a moment’s thought, Fang Chenyi felt it would be inappropriate to go in without any warning. After all, she was a girl; who knew what she might be doing right now.
"Hee hee, who said you were coming up? Tonight, I’m just going to pack some things and have a good chat with Tantan. How about you come help me with my stuff tomorrow morning, Chenyi?"
He nodded helplessly. "Alright, alright. You go on up by yourself then."
"Hee hee, I’m heading up then. Get some rest tonight! Mwah!"
She gave Fang Chenyi a light peck on the cheek, then pushed open the car door and got out.
Once Bai Menghan was gone, Fang Chenyi shook his head with a smile, stepped on the gas, and drove off toward his villa.
Arriving at the villa, Fang Chenyi parked the car carelessly by the entrance, got out, and grabbed a woven bag and a trash picker before heading into the residential complex.
On the way back, Fang Chenyi had noticed a trash can at the bottom of every building in the complex. And now, those trash cans were his targets.
’No kidding,’ he thought. ’The whole day has been a whirlwind of activity, but now things have finally quieted down. Plus, it’s dark and there are fewer people around—the perfect time to hurry up and make some money picking up trash.’
While Fang Chenyi was heading toward the trash cans with his woven bag, Bai Menghan had already gone upstairs.
She had just taken out her key to open the door when it clicked open from the inside. Su Tantan immediately pulled her in with an exaggerated expression on her face.
"Hehe, not bad, girl! You quietly found yourself such a handsome guy. And judging by his car, he must be super rich, right! So? Did you conquer him?"
Startled by the suddenly opened door, she saw it was Su Tantan and tapped her on the head in annoyance.
"Shoo, shoo, what nonsense are you talking about? Here, go eat your dinner. All you do all day is spout nonsense."
Taking the large bag Bai Menghan handed her, Su Tantan took a deep breath.
"Mmm... smells so good! Hehe, our Menghan is the best. Wow, wow, wow, it’s Western food! Steak, salad... huh? What’s this?"
Su Tantan placed the items on the dining table one by one when she suddenly noticed a box of small, yellowish-orange pearls and asked, puzzled.
"Isn’t that caviar? You say that like you’ve never had it before. Didn’t we have some last time we went to that teppanyaki buffet?"
Bai Menghan looked at the overly dramatic Su Tantan, feeling completely exasperated.
But when Su Tantan heard this, she was even more shocked. This soybean-sized stuff was actually caviar?
"Caviar? This is a different color and size from the caviar we had last time! My god, caviar this big? How much does a serving of this cost?!"
"Thirty-eight hundred a serving..."
"Oh my god! Thirty-eight hundred for one serving? That’s way too expensive! Good lord, one serving of this is more than my living expenses for three months! Hey, Menghan, you think we could sell this?"
...
Leaving Bai Menghan and Su Tantan aside, let’s turn back to Fang Chenyi. Carrying his woven bag, he quickly arrived at the first trash can.
He glanced around to make sure no one was watching, then his trash picker began to move rapidly.

’As expected of a high-end residential complex. Damn, even the quality of the trash is different. That laptop just now, though the model was a bit old, should still be usable.’
About ten minutes later, Fang Chenyi glanced at the notifications showing he’d just received 90,000 yuan, and he felt absolutely ecstatic. That was nearly 100,000 yuan from just one trash can, and there were at least thirty or forty more in this complex.
