Roadmap to the Boundless Sky
Chapter 284Book 3, : Ambush
While talking, Deng Xin pushed down a little harder, which caused the cat she was holding to yelp. “Sorry, Mao Mao.”
A flicker of surprise appeared in Chen Chuan’s eyes. When Deng Xin got emotional, he could sense her biofield.
Normal people didn’t have as much vitality as a martial artist. While they also had biofields, they were weak and practically unnoticeable.
Deng Xin wasn’t a martial artist, yet her biofield was evident. This was a gift and might be related to her ability.
“What are your plans now? Do you want to leave the Elephant Gang?” he asked.
Deng Xin nodded before shaking her head. “I do want to leave, but whenever I sense danger, something bad happens around me. This time, it’s likely connected to Tonai or the Elephant Gang, and I don’t want to leave just like that. That’s why I’d like to ask you and the Resolution Department for help.”
Deng Xin didn’t have the courage to talk to the Resolution Department, so she contacted Chen Chuan, from whom she didn’t sense any danger. Chen Chuan was also being targeted by Ferris Wheel, so she believed that he might help her.
More importantly, the Elephant Gang was her final sanctuary. If this place couldn’t guarantee her safety, she didn’t know where she could go. She had no options.
Chen Chuan pondered over it before asking, “How long does it take before your hunch comes true and something bad happens?”
“Anywhere from a day to three days, but my hunch has never been wrong before.”
“I got it. Miss Deng, the information you provided is very important and useful to me. I’m willing to help you,” Chen Chuan said.
Aside from the information, Deng Xin’s ability to sense danger was also useful. This meant that Ferris Wheel was planning something. If that were the case, he should do something too.
Ferris Wheel had been under tight scrutiny lately. If they wanted to target the Elephant Gang, the only card they could use was the Swordfish Gang. As long as they kept an eye on them, they should be fine.
But that was an external threat. If something happened within the Elephant Gang, things would get troublesome.
After hearing Chen Chuan’s promise, Deng Xin got so worked up that she bowed to him deeply. “Thank you, Mr. Chen!”
Chen Chuan put a hand on his Realm Pass and was about to contact the Resolution Department to make some arrangements when he heard rustling sounds.
Domain interference.
The domain signal became unstable, and they heard a whistle resembling a goose outside, followed by someone shouting something and running.
Chen Chuan looked out and saw the suspension bridge being pulled up. The road blocks ahead were also moved back. The gang members on sentry duty became tense.
Something must have happened.
Deng Xin instantly became nervous and said, “A’lie, go take a look and see what happened!”
“Got it. Calm down. I’ll get answers.”
A’lie might be a teenager, but he wasn’t nervous in the slightest. He walked to the place where the signal was more stable and put his hand on his neck to see what had happened and communicate with the other members.
After around two minutes, he ran back. While panting for breath, he said, “Bad news. Toge died, and Tonai has been captured. A lot of people are saying that Tonai is the one who killed the old man.”
Deng Xin covered her mouth in horror.
“You need to leave, Deng Xin. Some people are saying that you’re a spy from the Swordfish Gang,” A’lie said before turning to the calm Chen Chuan. “Mr. Chen, you can help her, right?”
Chen Chuan turned to Deng Xin. “I believe you need to leave now, Miss Deng.”
“That’s right. Tonai is a high-ranking martial artist, so he will be safe. He won’t have anything to worry about once you leave too. It’ll help him get out,” A’lie supported Chen Chuan.
Deng Xin cradled her chest, as if she was trying to calm her breathing, and shook her head. “Tonai is loyal to the gang. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been captured so easily. If I run, he won’t be able to prove his innocence. He won’t run away.”
She turned to Chen Chuan and pleaded, “Mr. Chen, could you save Tonai? He’s been really good to me, and I can’t just abandon him. Please.”
Deng Xin showed up to be a loyal person. Despite the urgent situation, she didn’t run away.
“Miss Deng, Tonai is an important member of the Elephant Gang and Toge’s grand-nephew. It’s strange that they’re blaming him for Toge’s death. Before you came here, did Tonai do something?”
“I know!” A’lie shouted out. “He went to grab medicine for the old man. Toge has been getting his medicine, which is really important to him, from external channels. Toge only takes it if Tonai brings it over.”
Chen Chuan guessed that Ferris Wheel was behind this, and he absolutely could not let them have their way. Besides, he had checked the Elephant Gang’s information. Toge had been the gang leader for more than thirty years, and no one could reach his level of prestige. After he died, the Elephant Gang was bound to descend into chaos.
Chen Chuan did not have any fondness for gangs, but if something suddenly happened to a ten-thousand-member gang like the Elephant Gang, it would not be good news for Glowing Dew District.
“Since I’ve promised to help you, let me handle this. First, I’ll get you out,” he said to Deng Xin.
“I have a way to get her out. Let me take care of this, Mr. Chen,” A’lie said.
“Are you confident?” Chen Chuan asked.
“100%.”
Chen Chuan then sent a message to Ni Qianqian and said, “Leave with Miss Deng. You’ll see a racecar outside. It’ll pick you up and protect you.”
Deng Xin got up and bowed again to Chen Chuan. “Thank you, Mr. Chen. Please help him.”
She grabbed Mao Mao and hurried off with A’lie.
Chen Chuan saw A’lie fiddling with his Realm Pass before shouting some things at the person guarding the suspension bridge. The guard gave them a skeptical glance before contacting the people inside. In the end, he reluctantly lowered the suspension bridge and let them leave.
Clearly, A’lie had used some tricks to send false information, but because of this, it was going to be easy for the gang members to figure out where they went afterwards.
Chen Chuan picked up the tea from the table, took a sip, and walked out of the teahouse. When he was on the street, he cast a glance at the tallest building within the territory and loosened his collar.
“Time to end this.”
The street was practically deserted at this point. The sentries saw him standing alone and thought that something was off, so they trained their crossbows and guns at himChen Chuan.
“Hey, you—”
The moment they spoke, a loud bang shook the area, and a cloud of smoke and dust blasted up. Then, Chen Chuan disappeared.
When the smoke cleared and they looked at the spot where Chen Chuan originally stood, they found a crater.
The sentries were shocked. Then, they heard another bang up ahead. The road blocks and walls in a straight line from where the pit was were blown apart, as if a cannonball had struck them. They were shattered to pieces.

Deng Xin made it outside of the Elephant Gang’s territory with A’lie’s protection. Right away, they heard a honk and saw a red racecar parked outside. The car door was open, so they hurried over.
Ni Qianqian observed them and said, “Deng Xin? I’m Chen Chuan’s colleague. Hop on in.”
Deng Xin thanked her and got into the back seat with Mao Mao and A’lie.
Ni Qianqian cast the cat a few interested looks before pulling down her goggles. “Strap in. I’ll bring you to a safe place.”
When she saw Deng Xin looking inside the territory with worry, Ni Qianqian chuckled and said, “Don’t worry. Since Chen Chuan promised to help you, he’ll take care of it. Sit tight now.”
Then, she floored the gas pedal, and the racecar shot away.

Chen Chuan reached the tallest building and stopped in front of it. The rolling smoke and dust formed a cloud of dust around him that spread outward before sinking down.
He looked up. It was a spire-shaped, Sheni-style large residential house painted gold with a screen at the front.
It showed a large, white elephant with a pot-shaped crown and jeweled banner. This was the Shenians’ god, the Potted Elephant King.
There were quite a number of armed guards around. When they saw him suddenly show up with such an astonishing momentum, they were shocked and pointed their guns at him.
Before they could pull the trigger, they felt as if an invisible force had crashed into them. Their eyes rolled back, and they crashed on the floor.
Chen Chuan acted as if he didn’t see them. With the Frost King Saber in hand, he walked into the building.
The gang members before him collapsed, and the sound of bodies falling followed him.
A few elderly men dressed in Shenian traditional clothes sat in the hall of the residential house. Kneeling in front of them was Tonai. His hands were bound behind him.
They had been interrogating him, but after seeing what was happening outside, they were shocked and shot to their feet.
The martial artists in charge of protecting them tensed up and went in front of them to shield them with their bodies.
An elderly man with a face full of wrinkles pushed his guard aside and said grimly, “That’s Captain Chen of the Resolution Department. Don’t stop him. Let him in.”
