Chapter 532: Kong Family Birthday Banquet
Kong Jingshan’s face was as dark as water. He never expected that everything back then was Cao Yumei’s calculation. She took advantage of his drunkenness to offer herself.
The health of Xu Wan’s pregnancy was not good in the first place. After being agitated by Cao Yumei, she suddenly gave birth prematurely, resulting in two deaths.
Thinking of this, Kong Jingshan was furious and walked over to slap Cao Yumei several times.
"Someone! Drag her out and lock her in the guest room. She is not allowed to come out without my orders!"
With Kong Jingshan’s command, several strong servants entered the room and lifted Cao Yumei.
"Let me go! There’s a ghost! There really is a ghost; she has come to claim my life!"
Cao Yumei kept shouting, but her voice gradually faded away.
Kong Jingshan looked around the room but found no suspicious clues. When he woke up, the doors and windows were tightly shut; it was impossible for anyone to have broken in.
Meanwhile, Yang Cheng returned to their room and said in a low voice, "It’s done. Did you hear everything just now?"
Kong Lingwen nodded, then threw herself into Yang Cheng’s arms, choking up, "If it weren’t for her, my mother wouldn’t have died!"
"She can’t just die so easily. I want her to live and experience how painful it was for my mother back then."
Yang Cheng gently patted her back and said, "We can inject her with some Illusory Soul Orchid juice every day. It will make her lose her mind and live in constant fear."
"Do you still have any Illusory Soul Orchid?"
Kong Lingwen looked up at Yang Cheng, her reddened eyes making his heart ache.
"No, but we can buy more. If we can’t find any, I can use other herbs as substitutes."
Yang Cheng leaned down, kissing her cheek and gradually moving to her red lips.
The two embraced and fell onto the bed, but that night, Yang Cheng did nothing more. He simply held Kong Lingwen as they slept, giving her a sense of security.
...
In the morning.
As Kong Lingwen and Yang Cheng just came downstairs, they heard Kong Lingchuan shouting, "My mother just had a nightmare and said a few wrong things. Is that enough reason to lock her up?"
"A day as a couple counts as a hundred days of grace. My mother has been married to you for so many years; even if she has no achievements, she has worked hard. Can you really bear to treat her this way?"
"Your mother is not in her right mind, rambling nonsense. Locking her up is for her own good. Today is the Elder’s birthday banquet, so watch your mouth. If you dare to cause trouble, you’ll be kicked out of the Kong Family!"
Kong Jingshan scolded, his eyes full of warning.
Kong Lingchuan initially wanted to argue more, but, facing Kong Jingshan’s oppressive gaze, he dared not shout anymore.
"Dad! Good morning."
At this moment, Kong Lingwen came downstairs, a slight smile at the corner of her lips.
"What do you mean by this? You’re gloating because my mother got locked up, aren’t you?"
Kong Lingchuan was furious. Suddenly realizing something, he quickly turned to look at Kong Jingshan.
"Dad! It must be Kong Lingwen’s doing. My mother was fine until she came back, and now my mother is acting crazy!"
"What are you talking about? How could your sister do such a thing!"
Kong Jingshan slammed the table and angrily rebuked.
"Dad! You’re biased! She hates you, and yet you treat her as your precious daughter. Who’s to say she won’t retaliate against you first once she takes over the family business!"
Kong Lingchuan shouted again, trying to stir things up.
Kong Lingwen did not defend herself; she indeed had thought this way.
But without her response, Kong Jingshan suddenly stood up and slapped him.
"Shut up! If you talk nonsense again, you’ll be expelled from the Kong Family!"
Kong Lingchuan’s cheek burned, and his anger reached its peak, but he said nothing more and stormed off.
The room suddenly turned quiet. Kong Lingwen, pulling Yang Cheng along, was about to leave when Kong Jingshan stopped her.
"Lingwen, I know you hate me. I thought your mother’s death was just an accident, but I didn’t know it was Cao Yumei’s doing. I’m sorry to you both."
"Sorry doesn’t help; my mom isn’t coming back."
Kong Lingwen left that remark, pulled Yang Cheng by the hand, and headed straight to Elder Kong’s courtyard.
"Oh! My precious granddaughter and grandson-in-law are here."
Seeing them, Elder Kong chuckled.
"Grandpa, you look so dashing in this outfit, you look twenty years younger instantly!"
Kong Lingwen said with a smile. Ever since she returned to the Kong Family, she’d kept a stern face, only showing a genuine smile with Elder Kong.
"You cheeky girl, always flattering me. Today, you and Xiaochen stay by my side. I’ll introduce you to some old friends. They could be of help when you take over the company."
Elder Kong fully supported Kong Lingwen in inheriting the family business, planning to use this occasion to give her a boost.
"Thank you, Grandpa."
Kong Lingwen was very touched. Her grandfather had long since stopped managing family affairs but was willing to put in the effort for her sake.
Though Elder Kong usually stayed out of family matters, he knew something major happened last night.
"Lingwen, what happened last night? I heard Cao Yumei was locked up."
Kong Lingwen’s smile faded a bit, and she replied, "Cao Yumei suddenly had a nightmare last night, claimed she saw my mother coming to take her life, and rambled about many things. My dad was afraid it would affect your birthday banquet, so he locked her up."
Although Elder Kong didn’t press further, it was clear he understood that this issue was connected to Kong Lingwen.
At this moment, the butler, Wen Xu, entered and respectfully said, "Elder, the Family Head requests your presence in the front hall; some guests have already arrived."
"Very well, let us go."
Elder Kong stood up, with Kong Lingwen and Yang Cheng supporting him on either side.
The Kong Family was one of the elite families in Zhonghai, naturally attracting many guests who came bearing valuable gifts.
By now, it was just ten o’clock, and nearly all the guests had arrived.
"Allow me to introduce my eldest granddaughter, Lingwen, and by her side, my grandson-in-law, Yang Cheng."
Elder Kong warmly introduced them to everyone, paying no attention to Kong Lingchuan nearby.
He never favored Cao Yumei and her son, rarely showing them kindness, and this birthday banquet aimed to support Kong Lingwen, not to mention Kong Lingchuan.
"Old Kong! Your granddaughter and grandson-in-law truly look like a perfect match, a couple made in heaven!"
"I heard long ago that your granddaughter is exceptional, having acquired a small company and developed it into a nationally renowned cosmetics company."
"And what does your grandson-in-law do? Is he in business as well?"
Everyone was curious about Yang Cheng. Though he didn’t look like a rich young master, he had a unique aura about him.
"Yang Cheng is a doctor, quite famous in Lishui County and also my business partner."
Kong Lingwen introduced with a smile, holding Yang Cheng’s arm as they exchanged a sweet smile.
From this, everyone understood he was a young man without much background. For someone like him to marry into the Kong Family seemed quite ambitious.
However, as they were all friends of Elder Kong’s, they wouldn’t embarrass anyone but merely smiled knowingly.
