Sequence Highway Survival: I Upgrade Supplies in the Apocalypse
Chapter 481: An Incredible Project
Forty hours?
Never mind forty hours.
Chu Che did not even want to give them four hours.
But at the convoy’s current, strolling pace, there was no way they could shake off those anomalies.
Although there were far fewer anomalies than before.
The moment the headlights went out, those things would surge in like leeches smelling blood.
By then, forget the ordinary survivors, even whether the convoy’s few superhumans could survive the boundless Sea of Chaotic Graves was uncertain.
Chu Che hesitated, weighing things over and over.
Over a hundred lives rested in his hands; if he chose wrong, they would all die.
As the apocalypse dragged on, Chu Che had come to value every human life even more.
Like I said, there aren’t many humans left.
Every living person must band together.
Every life must be treasured.
When the convoy used to lose a person or two, Chu Che hardly felt anything.
That was because in the early days of the apocalypse, entire cities had vanished in just a few days.
What had once been bustling human cities became human no-go zones.
There were simply too many dead…
Chu Che and the others had long since gone numb.
But now…
Since leaving the Oasis, apart from encountering the Doomsday Convoy over by the Sea of Trees,
they hadn’t met a single other convoy.
Sometimes Chu Che even felt like this world only had them left.
Looking at the terrified, exhausted faces of the survivors outside the vehicles,
Chu Che grit his teeth, reached into his chest and grabbed something, then snatched up the radio with his other hand.
“All right, Gong Yong, I’m trusting you this time!”
“Everyone, rest where you are!”
“All lights under centralized control, lights will illuminate around the camp perimeter. No one may leave the lighting area without permission…”
At Captain Chu’s orders,
the convoy slowly halted under the gaze of those surrounding anomalies.
Xue Nan began directing people to set up the camp.
All flashlights, camping lamps, and the like were gathered by Xue Nan for unified management.
Chen Ye’s group’s vehicles formed a triangle.
Headlights were on, lighting up the surrounding area.
Fortunately, Chu Che’s and the Pink-haired Girl’s vehicles had been specially modified; their onboard lighting systems were more targeted than ordinary lights.
Chen Ye’s Monster Pickup’s onboard lighting system had also just been upgraded.
The triangle formed by the three vehicles was enough to temporarily create a light barrier.
But where the light couldn’t reach, those terrifying things were drawing closer to the three vehicles.
Only a car door away, Chen Ye saw a patched, stitched face staring greedily at him.
If not for the interior lights, that thing would likely have come in.
Chen Ye melted into green smoke and left the vehicle.
At this moment, Gong Yong had already started planning the convoy’s vehicles.
Currently the convoy had nine vehicles.
That number was really a little too many.
Chu Che, Chen Ye, and Sun Xixi’s off-road vehicles didn’t need Gong Yong to upgrade them.
At least not for now.
As for Chen Ye’s Monster Pickup, it was a Wonder numbered below one thousand. Although Gong Yong was already Sequence 4, he still didn’t quite have the strength to modify the Monster Pickup fully.
Moreover, Chen Ye had already upgraded the Monster Pickup’s off-road system himself.
Originally there had been two days on the countdown, now there were fewer than forty hours left.
By that math, Gong Yong should finish his vehicle upgrades in time.
The Monster Pickup’s off-road upgrades should also be finished.
Maybe even a bit early.
Chu Che and Sun Xixi’s vehicles had also been specially upgraded.
They too did not need Gong Yong’s modifications at the moment.
Ding Dong’s panel van was currently designated the convoy’s supply vehicle.
There were even some Ideal Grain Seeds planted inside.
The remaining five vehicles were the Iron Lion’s school bus, Bus Number Seven led by Xu Lina, Bus Number Six under Doctor Luo,
and the newly joined Bus Number Eight and Bus Number Nine.
Bus Eight and Bus Nine originally belonged to the Doomsday Convoy.
When Gong Yong had been with that convoy, he had already done many upgrades to Bus Eight and Bus Nine.
So during the migration across the Sea of Chaotic Graves,
Bus Eight and Bus Nine were in much better condition than Bus Six, Bus Seven, and Iron Lion’s school bus.
If it weren’t for the existence of Iron Lion, that humanoid escape artifact,
these vehicles could never have traveled this far through the Sea of Chaotic Graves.
Iron Lion was now Gong Yong’s professional assistant.
Gong Yong directed Iron Lion to group that school bus, Bus Six, and Bus Eight together.
Bus Seven and Bus Nine were also paired.
It looked like, within forty hours, Gong Yong planned to convert those five vehicles into two super-large survivor buses.
When that was done, the whole convoy would be down to six vehicles.
Ding Dong’s panel van, being the supply and grain-growing vehicle, would remain as is for now.
Gong Yong would still perform some targeted off-road modifications on Ding Dong’s van.
If this had been before the apocalypse, few workshops nationwide could pull off such conversions.
But now…
Could this be the difference between Sequence 3 and Sequence 4?
This project, which looked like a joke, was filled with the unbelievable.
Gong Yong’s right hand transformed directly into a flame thrower, the blue flame radiating an unbelievable heat.
Even from this distance, one could feel the scorching warmth.
His left hand became a manual screwdriver; with two fingers pinching the nut and a light twist, screws as thick as a finger obediently unscrewed themselves.
Those once-solid steel frames were, in front of Gong Yong, like modeling clay, allowing him to manipulate them however he wished.
Remember, previously only Iron Lion could do this so easily.
That was because of Iron Lion’s unmatched strength.
But Gong Yong, that thin little guy who seemed to weigh next to nothing,
could also make it look so effortless!
Seeing the mechanic display his ability up close for the first time
left Captain Chu utterly stunned.
Perhaps feeling uncomfortable under Chu Che’s intense stare, Gong Yong, rare for him, offered an explanation: “This is one of a mechanic’s innate abilities—Steel Affinity!”
“Any steel in front of us will become like this!”
“When I was only Sequence 3, I still needed tools to fix things. Now that I’m Sequence 4, I am the best tool myself!”
“All right, all right… get to work, get to work!”
Chu Che’s look at Gong Yong was no longer ordinary.
It was the kind of look that made you want to swallow Gong Yong whole.
If anyone tried to take Gong Yong away now, Chu Che would fight with everything he had.
Chu Che sneered when he saw Chen Ye approaching, “Look at Gong Yong, then look at you lot. You can’t help at all—what use are you?”
Finally, those words left Chu Che’s mouth.
Directed at Chen Ye, an unprecedented feeling of satisfaction welled up.
Chen Ye: “Fuck…”
Before he could retort, Chu Che turned and walked away with his hands behind his back.
