Chapter 79 - 73 : The Price of a Reason
Thud!
A large, massive crack in the ground echoed from Kael’s speed as his leg drove into Kamilion’s stomach, sending him crashing into a wall.
As Kamilion tried to react from the hit, a massive amount of blood poured from his mouth, and now he knew the disaster in front of him.
If he was a wolf, then what was in front of him was a different monster.
This was not an equal battle from the start. He already knew that Kael was holding back to lure the surrounding rats after the hit he took.
It was a simple strategy of making others think they were stronger, but they did not know that you were adjusting your power to be equal to them.
For now, Kamilion had two assumptions. Either Kael was Yossence 3, or he was just using his strongest attack. But since he did not show much energy, that meant he was a Youscence 3 too, just like him.
Kamilion now knew that Kael was playing with him.
As Kamilion started to stand, he caught his sword.
And his aura began to change, becoming lightning and sacred. Kamilion now decided to use everything he had. He was now going into his sacred aura mode. He had that mode from when he worked for the church.
He had drunk the sacred potion received from the church. The only price for any knight to achieve this was two things. Either you were so talented that the church would give it to you as an investment, or by serving it for ten years.
For Kamilion, he was from the second kind.
As his aura grew, Kamilion activated his berserk mode as his eyes turned fully white.
That was his full power, destroying everything he had to survive.
Kamilion, who was a tier 22, now in that form that executed life, became the peak of a Yossence 3.
It was a sacrifice for life or death. Either he killed Kael or he was dead. He already knew that if he gave his back to Kael, he would already be dead.
Boom!
“I am gonna kill the fuking out of you, vampire.”
“Show me how you would stop my sacred blast.”
Sacred blast was one of the weaknesses of vampires, but it could not affect the higher vampires. Still, it played an old role in the old war.
“But it was still unknown if this attack would affect Kael or not.”
A large sparking yellow blast launched from Kamilion.
Kael’s mood did not change as he raised the small left finger of his hand. The ashen skull started redirecting his chain to the blast as it slowly opened its mouth, receiving the blast as it went back from the attack. Its eyes glowed white blue, and as it closed, it turned black, then crimson lightning light that made everything seem blind for seconds.
That was the Skull of Ashen. It could absorb any attack with power equal to its user’s and could withstand one attack on the same level as its founder, though it inflicted internal damage on the user equal to a quarter of the difference in power. In addition, it could curse the opponent, absorb curses, generate a flash of light to blind enemies for a few seconds, defend against soul attacks, and channel absorbed attacks to charge other parts of the chain.
According to legend, this skull belonged to a powerful leech that was fought by the first vampire to ever exist, who managed to kill it in a battle that lasted an entire week.
All of this information alone shows how powerful the skull was, ranking fifth among the ten. It was already one of the strongest parts of the chains, but with the right blessing, it could become nearly invincible. Despite its side effects when absorbing powerful attacks, those drawbacks could be turned into an advantage by reflecting the damage back onto the opponent.
For now, Kael did not have this ability, but he had put it in his plans for his goal.
As Kael used Kamilion’s attack to blind him, he used some part of it to recharge the second chain, the one on his left hand middle finger, the spark sphere.
As it was directed to hit Kamilion, boom, a massive explosion was about to launch, but Kamilion managed to save himself by cutting his left arm as he jumped back before the massive explosion erupted from the arm he cut.
At this moment, Kamilion saw his dark past, as he was a good person, but all that was destroyed by a single night. His wife was killed by vampires and had been a plaything before they killed her.
And as they were about to start with his daughter from the traumatic scene of her mother, Kamilion had returned from his hunt with the mercenaries.
Only to see that terrifying scene as they cut the clothes of his eight year old daughter and began tasting his blood. A terrifying madness was unleashed that day that made Kamilion kill them in the most terrifying way, and then launch into the whole village, cutting all vampires that had attacked the village.
As he was done, he caught his daughter whose slight eyes had turned red and she became cursed, and that was how Kamilion offered himself to help the church and knights for a way to save his daughter before she died. His daughter would have a lifespan until twenty eight.
So he had another ten years to save her.
He needed a highly expensive potion or the blood of a noble vampire to save her.
“I do not want to die here.”
“I will not die here.”
“Not now, not later.”
“I need to save my daughter.”
I failed as a husband, but I will not fail as a dad.
I will avenge you, Malienda, and I will save our daughter.
“Soul mirror.”
“The last slash of the crying knight.”
Crack!
Kamilion jumped as his tears erupted to attack Kael as he launched with his only arm, muttering his strongest attack.
At this moment, Kamilion had managed to activate his soul mirror to save his life and his daughter’s life.
A smile appeared on Kael’s face as he felt his opponent’s aura, as Kamilion raised his only hand with the sword to cut Kael.
Kael raised his third chain, the Dusk Aegis, also known as shield, as it touched Kamilion’s attack.
Boom!
He was sent crashing back as he received the same damage, as that was the ability of the shield.
Kamilion kept jumping, and Kael continued by repeating the same chain for another seven attacks.
Kamilion was sent falling on his knees, and his necklace had fallen, and his sword was destroyed, as his tears and blood were falling.
“Any last wish?”
Kael asked, feeling hollow.
Maybe because of his past, but the man in front of him had ignited something mysterious inside him.
Could you save my daughter?
I seem pathetic to ask that from you.
I do not know if you would agree or not.
She is in a city called Elaris. She has ten years left to live. Also, I have money in my left ring.
You can take it.
"Tortured by vampires... and now I am asking one of them for help.”
Even my death is pathetic.
Cough... cough...
Thud. Kamilion’s body fell on the ground.
“Here is a man who has outshined his sins by dying for them,” Kael muttered, unbothered.
A massive, bloody spark exploded inside him. It was the ability of the Spark Sphere.
Once it struck a part of the opponent’s body, it began counting down, and after a short delay, a massive blood-sparking explosion would erupt from within them. The body would then detonate like a bloody bomb. Even if Kael wanted to stop it, it would not cease once activated.
Kamilion’s body was sent flying in all directions, torn apart in a gruesome, flesh-scattering explosion.
Kael looked on with a hollow expression as only his voice filled the room.
“From the moment you found your reason, you bound yourself to it. I never had one... because this was never my battle. That’s why you’re dead... and I’m still walking.”
“That would have made sense if we were equal. But from the moment you stood against me, it was never an equal battle. So it doesn’t make sense.”
Kael bowed as he took the man’s necklace and ring, then used the skull chain to absorb his soul and store it.
Since it was extraordinary, it would be useful.
Kael slowly put on his bat ring and began moving as the chains around him started to fade away.
Thud!
In a light, almost effortless motion, he vanished from the room, continuing his mission of collecting everything in the tower.
