Chapter 46: Beast Horde
Looking down from the high ridge, the faces of the fourteen people standing behind Rhain turned deathly pale.
The Graves family members were worried for their people.
On the other side, Maren, and others were scared for their elders.
Weapons were drawn.
On the ridge above, Maren drew her sword, "We have to help them! Rhain—!"
Every person on the ridge was prepared to jump in below.
Every single pair of eyes turned toward the dark-robed youth standing before them instinctively.
They had subconsciously accepted his authority.
Rhain turned his head. His cold eyes locked onto Garon.
"Are you coming?"
Garon’s face flushed with deep shame.
His own family leader was down there bleeding, surrounded by death, while he was arguing to stay back.
Gripping his weapon, he gave a stiff, heavy nod.
"Let’s go," Rhain said.
Without another word, he simply stepped off the edge of the towering cliff.
The moment he moved, the fourteen people behind him didn’t hesitate even for a second.
They leaped off the edge one after another.
They turned into fifteen streaks of dazzling light, plummeting down from the sky like a shower of falling meteors, hurtling directly toward the absolute center of the beast tide.
BOOM!!!
The impact was earth-shattering.
Fifteen figures landed heavily in a perfect circle around the trapped group.
The sheer concussive force of Rhain and other’s landing shattered the rocky ground, crushing dozens of ferocious monsters into meat paste on impact.
At the center of the defensive ring, Roderick staggered, using his broad-bladed sword to prop himself up.
He was panting loudly, his robes drenched in blood—both his own and that of the beasts.
He and the four Azure Cloud elders had been fighting continuously for an hour.
But as they looked at Rhain and others who had suddenly appeared from sky, his mind went blank for a second.
"You..." Roderick choked out, feeling speechless.
"Don’t just stand there," Rhain said without turning his head, his fist sending a giant beast of nearly three metres flying, "If you want to live, kill them."
With new group arriving for help, the ten people who were slowly losing hope had their blood boiling.
The crushing pressure on Roderick and the trapped elders was significantly relieved.
But the beast tide was simply too massive.
Driven by maddened bloodlust, more and more monsters flooded down the slopes of the gorge.
Among them, several massive, heavily armored beasts exuding the auras of the Essence Condensation Realm stepped out from the rear.
Rhain stood in the absolute center of the carnage.
His dark grey eyes swept over the endless sea of roaring, maddened monsters.
There was no fear, only endless coldness.
Every single second he stayed here was wasted.
"Scram."
The single word fell from Rhain’s lips, bone-chillingly cold.
BOOM!
The Abyssal Sovereign Physique was fully unleashed.
A terrifying, pitch-black suppression aura exploded from his body like a shockwave of death.
The gravity in the entire gorge seemed to multiply exponentially in a single breath.
The ferocious beasts, previously maddened with bloodlust, suddenly went stiff.
The blood-red light in their feral eyes shattered instantly, replaced by a primal dread.
Their instincts screamed at them that the entity standing before them was not human.
It was an apex predator.
Rhain didn’t stand still.
Swoosh!
He vanished.
Rhain appeared directly in front of a massive iron-scaled panther. The Level 2 Essence Condensation beast roared, raising a razor-sharp claw.
Crack!
Before the claw could properly raise, the panther’s armored skull bent like hollow wood with Rhain’s single punch.
Rhain flickered again.
Two more Essence Condensation beasts, a pair of twin-tailed serpents, hissed in rage.
They lunged at Rhain from the left and right, their fangs dripping with toxic venom.
BOOM! BOOM!
Next second, the two massive serpents exploded from the inside out.
No beast could stop Rhain’s steps longer than a second.
He moved through the tide of monsters as easily as a fish swimming in the lake.
Every time he paused, a beast died.
Maren, Bria, Hale, and the newly rescued elders fought alongside him, pushing back the edges of the horde.
But their contributions were completely overshadowed.
They watched in utter horror and awe as Rhain single-handedly tore the core of the beast tide to shreds.
The continuous, merciless slaughter broke the horde.
The beasts’ maddened state shattered under the sheer pressure of Rhain’s Abyssal Sovereign Aura.
"Kriii..."
A massive shadow-wolf tucked its tail between its legs, abandoning its bloodlust, and frantically scrambled backward.
That single act broke the dam.
Hundreds of monsters turned around, violently trampling over one another in a desperate, hysterical stampede to escape the gorge.
Within five minutes, the deafening roar of the beast tide was completely silenced.
Rhain stood alone in the center of the devastated gorge.
Despite the absolute butchery, his dark robes remained spotless, untouched by a single drop of blood.
Behind him, all stood stupified.
Garon, who had previously dared to question Rhain’s leadership, felt his legs turn to jelly.
He mechanically swallowed his saliva.
Roderick stared at the dark-robed youth’s back, his hands fiercely trembling around the hilt of his broadsword.
Was this the boy he had confidently threatened at the sect gates?
Rhain looked back.
His dark grey irises swept over the battered, blood-soaked group standing behind him.
"Is everyone alive?"
His voice was devoid of any actual concern.
Hearing his voice, everyone jolted as if suddenly waking from a nightmare.
They hurriedly nodded their heads, tripping over their own words as they quickly spoke up.
"We are alive!"
"I am fine!"
"We are all good, Rhain."
Roderick took a heavy, exhausted breath and sheathed his broad-bladed sword.
He stopped directly in front of Rhain and bowed deeply.
"Thank you," Roderick spoke, his tone filled with deep gratitude. "Thank you all to risk your lives and plunge into a beast horde just to save us... our Graves family owes you an immense debt."
Rhain ignored him.
He had no mood to pay attention to sentimental speeches.
The leading Level 8 Essence Condensation elder of the Graves family stepped forward, his brow furrowed in deep confusion.
"Roderick," the Level 8 elder asked, scanning the hundreds of beast corpses littering the gorge. "Why were you all attacked by such a massive beast horde?"
Roderick shook his head, his face showing a bitter expression.
"I don’t know it either, Noran," Roderick sighed heavily. "We were merely passing through the gorge, and suddenly, they all went completely mad."
Before anyone could say another word, Rhain abruptly disappeared from his spot.
Where the hell did he go?
Everyone was left stunned.
"He found something!" Roderick’s eyes sharpened.
Without saying another word, he also dashed to follow Rhain.
Noran, and the Azure Cloud Sect elders—who also possessed the cultivations of realm Essence Condensation 7 and 8—quickly reacted.
They all hurriedly rushed one after another.
______________
A few hundred metres away from the blood-soaked gorge.
A middle-aged man with a thick horseshoe mustache stood.
He held a bone-white flute to his lips, his fingers dancing rapidly across the holes.
A strange melody rippled outward, carrying a bizarre essence designed to manipulate the primal instincts of nearby beasts.
But suddenly, the silent tune abruptly stopped.
The man lowered the bone-white flute, his eyes widening in shock.
"Damn it! They found me!"
His face turned incredibly ugly.
