Chapter 49: Seeing Her Again

Torin gritted his teeth and stepped forward.

The four chained Azure Cloud elders were forcefully shoved right behind him.

Behind them, Vargas, Byron, Vespera, and Drask led the Ironpeak and Barlowe forces, keeping a safe, calculated distance. Seris walked silently among them.

The interior of the ancient golden palace was unimaginably vast.

Towering golden pillars. Walls carved with weapons, and unseen beasts.

Swoosh!

They had barely walked a dozen paces when the painting of spears on a wall suddenly came to life.

A dozen razor-sharp spears forged of condensed essence shot out from the walls.

Torin had no choice. If he dodged, the spears would instantly shred the chained elders behind him.

He erupted his peak Level 9 essence to forcefully intercept them.

BANG!

The spears shattered, the force drove Torin back half a step.

"Keep moving," Vargas ordered coldly from behind.

For the next hour, Torin became a human shield.

Swoosh! Boom!

Hidden arrays etched into the flawless golden walls constantly triggered.

Beams of highly compressed essence shot out from all directions, while the floor tiles unexpectedly erupted in pillars of scorching flames.

By the time they finally broke through the long corridor, Torin was virtually unrecognizable.

His robes were entirely dyed dark red. Deep, bone-deep gashes littered his arms, chest, and legs.

He was panting heavily, his essence reserves completely drained, relying on pure willpower to keep his knees from buckling.

They stepped out of the corridor and entered a vast, magnificent antechamber.

At the far end of the hall stood a pair of massive, heavily sealed stone doors.

And standing completely still before those massive doors was a solitary figure.

A mechanical wooden puppet, with a heavy wooden staff in its hands.

"Open those doors," Vargas ordered coldly, his scarred face twisting with impatience.

Dragging his battered body, Torin walked toward the sealed doors.

He had barely come within ten feet of the gate when the puppet’s eyes snapped open.

Boom!

A terrifying aura erupted from its wooden frame, pressing down on everyone in the chamber.

The breathing of every individual in the room stopped.

Spirit Manifestation Realm!

The density and sheer oppressive aura belonged unequivocally to the Spirit Manifestation Realm!

Before Torin could think, the puppet moved abruptly.

The wooden staff swept forward, carrying the weight of a Spirit Manifestation expert.

Torin’s pupils contracted. He pushed his remaining Level 9 essence to its limit and threw a desperate punch.

Crack!

Torin’s arm shattered on impact.

He was launched backward , crashing hard into the stone floor right at Vargas’s feet.

"Torin!" A chained elder cried out, his voice trembling in absolute despair.

Seris was so exhausted with hopelessness and fear that her delicate body collapsed on floor.

She just stared at Torin with lifeless gaze.

Silence fell over the antechamber.

The mechanical puppet didn’t pursue.

It simply lowered its staff and returned to its original position.

Vargas wiped a drop of cold sweat from his scarred forehead.

Byron and Drask exchanged incredibly ugly looks.

A Spirit Manifestation Realm puppet.

Even if all four of the Peak Level 9 experts attacked it simultaneously, they would be brutally slaughtered in a fraction of a second.

"Forget it," Vespera muttered, her eyes filled with dread. "There is no chance we can get past that thing. We will search the outer halls instead."

Byron nodded heavily. He lowered his head and looked at the dying Torin and the chained Azure Cloud elders.

"What about them?" Byron asked coldly.

Valerius stepped forward, his eyes locked entirely onto Seris’s pale, flawless face.

"They’ve outlived their usefulness," Valerius sneered, waving his hand dismissively. "Kill the old fools. I’m taking the girl."

Vespera laughed cruelly, smoothly drawing her longsword.

Vargas sneered, raising his dagger to finish Torin off.

But before he could take a step, a sudden, violent gust of wind howled through the antechamber.

A crushing, suffocating force rolled down the corridor.

Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh!

Before Vargas or any of the Ironpeak and Barlowe forces could even turn their heads, streaks of blinding light flashed into the vast hall.

In the blink of an eye, eleven figures materialized within the palace chamber one after another.

Standing at the absolute forefront, was a dark robed youth.

The sudden, explosive arrival of eleven people caught everyone completely off guard.

Vargas, Byron, Vespera, and Drask stopped their actions, and turned to look at the newcomers.

On the cold stone floor, Seris weakly raised her head.

The moment her gaze fell upon the dark-robed figure standing at the front, her breath caught in her throat.

The deep, all consuming despair that had entirely clouded her eyes shattered in an instant, replaced by a dazzling, overwhelming brightness.

"Rhain..." her weak, trembling voice echoed softly in the tense silence of the hall.

Since the second he materialized in the chamber, Rhain’s eyes had been glued to her figure.

A look of relief and pure happiness flashed through his gaze; he had finally found her.

But as he saw her slumped on the floor in such a disheveled state, a sharp, agonizing pain pierced Rhain’s heart.

And then, a dangerous, bloodthirsty storm began to violently brew within his chest.

A bloodthirsty storm brewed within him, screaming at him to kill everyone behind this state of hers. It roared and screamed at his mind, urging him to slaughter every single person responsible for putting her in this state!

Standing just a few paces away, Valerius noticed the exchange.

Seeing the girl who had looked at him with nothing but absolute disgust and dead apathy suddenly staring at another man with such deep, unwavering devotion, a sickening, venomous jealousy exploded in his heart.

Valerius’s face twisted into an ugly sneer.

"Oh? Is this your lover?" Valerius mocked, his voice dripping with malice.

Only then did Rhain finally tear his gaze away from Seris.

He slowly turned his head, his dark eyes landing on Valerius.

Valerius looked down at Seris, laughing cruelly. "If you actually think these fools can save you, then you are completely delusional. These idiots were probably just attracted by the purple light, blindly thinking there was some kind of supreme treasure waiting for them. But what truly brought them here... was simply their own death!"

Seris did not even spare a single glance at Valerius.

Her beautiful, tear-filled eyes remained firmly, completely locked onto Rhain’s face.

She didn’t dare to blink, absolutely terrified that if she looked away for even a fraction of a millisecond, the figure she yearned for the most would disappear like a fleeting illusion.

Being so thoroughly and utterly ignored by the woman he coveted felt like a heavy, humiliating slap to Valerius’s face.

His facial expressions twisted with rage.

He glared at Rhain, his eyes flashing with maliciousness. "Since you refuse to look at me, I will make sure you clearly witness just how utterly pathetic the person you like truly is before you!"

He completely disregarded the ten heavy Essence Condensation Realm experts standing right behind Rhain.

He pointed a finger directly at Rhain’s face.

"You!" Valerius commanded, his voice echoing with unbounded entitlement. "Kneel down right now! Swear to be my loyal dog for the rest of your miserable life, and I might just be merciful enough to let you live!"

The moment those words dropped...

Swoosh!

Rhain simply vanished.

Before Vargas, Byron, Vespera, or Drask—the four peak Condensation experts—could even process his movement or react in the slightest...

A hand shot out and tightly clamped Valerius’s throat, and effortlessly lifted the number one genius of Greymist town off the ground as if he were lifting a helpless little chicken.
