Skill Extraction: Exploring Dungeons
Chapter 952 - 824: The Spirit God’s Death
"A Light Giant, huh? Hitting something like that makes me feel kind of guilty."
Kane looked up at the massive glowing Energy Giant condensed from Spirits.
Once this Energy Giant formed, it didn’t hesitate in the slightest; it raised its fist and swung straight at Kane and the others.
This should be the final trump card of the Spirits that make up this defensive force.
The feeling this Giant gave off was infinitely close to gold-level.
Despite its enormous size, its punching speed was extremely fast.
A violent gust slammed toward them as the fist arrived in an instant.
Clang!
A layer of transparent barrier blocked its attack, letting out a crisp sound.
"Meizike, you disperse them. Be careful not to hurt them."
After all, Kane and the others were the ones forcing their way in, and these Spirits had been warning them all along, hoping they wouldn’t continue forward.
They’d only resorted to harmful attacks as a last resort.
Hearing Kane’s words, Meizike nodded, then stretched out his upper right arm, opened his five fingers toward the Light Giant ahead, and gave a light wave.
A Rule appeared on the Giant’s body, and with the application of that Rule, the Giant instantly collapsed.
The condensed Giant crumbled like sand and mud, scattering into one Spirit after another, each slightly different.
And judging from the looks of it, they wouldn’t be able to gather back together anytime soon.
The power of Rules still bound them.
"Give up. You can’t stop us."
Kane looked at the open space in front of him and shouted.
At this moment, a cluster of Spirit that looked like a snake finally revealed its form before them.
A Silver-colored exterior, a rounded head—he looked like a snake, but felt more like a Silver chain.
He coiled in front of the group.
As the air vibrated, clear speech was transmitted out.
"Human, why must you force your way in here?"
"Obviously to save this world. As a native of this world, do you actually want to see it destroyed?"
Kane said calmly. He was indeed telling the truth.
And he hadn’t expected there to be a Spirit with intelligence almost fully on par with humans. Its appearance was no longer like the others, mere casually sketched lines.
It looked much more like an actual entity.
As he spoke, Kane raised his hand and tapped his chest.
Through the Mist medal, a wisp of Mist aura emerged.
If his sense wasn’t wrong, this Silver-chain-like Spirit before him should be the strongest existence in this world.
It had reached the bottleneck of Silver.
As that trace of Mist aura wafted out, the Spirit in front of them clearly froze.
As the strongest existence in this world at this very moment, he could feel the way this world was currently wrapped.
And the Wall of Mist surrounding this world was so similar to the wisp of Mist aura Kane had just released.
He was partly convinced.
Then, without another word, he vanished from in front of everyone.
"He just left like that? I thought he’d come along with us."
Longbei said, looking at where the Spirit had disappeared.
"He’s not truly human after all, so the way he handles things might be a bit different from us."
"Then let’s head down." Umberto said as he walked toward the crater-like place and came to the edge of the entrance.
The group leaned over and looked down.
They could only see scattered points of faint light, constantly evaporating upward along the depression.
From above, they could see the glow at the bottom, but couldn’t clearly make out what exactly was inside.
Seeing this, Kane thought for a moment, then stomped his foot. A spiral ramp began extending from beneath his feet, winding all the way down.
"Let’s just ride this down."
"Lirulu goes first!"
The moment Kane finished speaking, Lirulu blinked into existence above the slide, then shot down at high speed along it.
"Woohoo!"
Before long, her excited shout echoed up from below.
Longbei couldn’t wait either; he plopped down and slid down even faster.
Seeing this, Umberto, Kreya, and the others followed suit one after another.
Kane went last, riding the slide all the way down.
Since the spiral slide was transparent, he could clearly see the surroundings as he slid.
The faint light at the bottom kept drifting upward, but there wasn’t a single Spirit to be seen around them—nothing dared live here anymore.
He could feel some kind of powerful Energy Body below, but it didn’t seem to be alive.
As his speed gradually slowed, Kane reached the bottom.
He stood up, patted his backside, and dispelled the spiral slide.
Then he looked at the scene before him.
"Whoa!"
Even he couldn’t help but exclaim in amazement.
Kreya and the others, who had arrived first, were also standing there in a daze, staring at the scene before them.
The sight in front of them genuinely brought them a certain degree of shock.
All around stood one massive Crystal Pillar after another, giving off a faint glow, and they could feel the Magic Power contained within.
It was precisely these pillars that supplied the entire mountain with far more Magic Power than the surroundings.
And in front of them was a gigantic glowing mass.
A huge deer, roughly estimated to be over ten meters tall, was lying there.
The deer’s hide was a silvery gray, with faint colored stripes upon it, and two enormous antlers extended out from the top of its head.
The antlers looked as if they were made of Crystal, shining with dazzling radiance.
But this gigantic deer was just lying there like that, without the slightest trace of life, more like a toppled statue.
Umberto walked over in a bit of a daze and reached out to stroke the deer’s fur.
"This is a Spirit God! A dead Spirit God!"
He muttered to himself.
At this moment, that Silver chain-like spirit from before appeared by their side once again.
Their voices came through the air with a tremor.
"Long ago, for reasons unknown, the world began to shatter. Fortunately, though this region separated from the world and became a Fragment, it at least was preserved."
"But as time passed, this World Fragment has been dissipating, its laws growing chaotic, countless spirits beginning to vanish, and even the life in the air is draining away."
"The Spirit Deer has always remained here, using his power to stabilize this piece of the world’s Fragment. Yet no matter how powerful he was, it was impossible for him to hold an entire Fragment together."
"In the end, after only forty years he could no longer withstand all kinds of problems and sacrificed himself. But even in death, his corpse still kept this Fragment stable, until the world was wrapped in Mist."
The voice that came across was flat, devoid of any fluctuation.
The Silver chain that had previously blocked them now simply floated quietly at the side, telling them of the deeds of this great being lying before them.
Its sudden appearance and the explanation hinted that it had come to trust Kane and his group.
"What a pity. Such a beautiful creature, and it just died like this."
Lilulu flew over to the side of this massive deer-shaped being, speaking with a tinge of regret.
Even in death, even after having consumed such a vast amount of energy, there was still surging power gathering in this corpse.
Kane walked up and looked at the giant Spirit Deer before him. "What a waste. It feels like his strength had already reached the bottleneck of gold, plus he had the blessing of the world’s rules. Give him a bit more time and he should’ve truly become the god of this world."
After speaking, Kane shook his head regretfully and reached out to pat the corpse of the Spirit Deer in front of him.
Umberto just stood to the side like that.
"Why was I guided here? What here is something I need? It doesn’t feel like I’m needed at all."
He stared at the enormous Spirit Deer in front of him, the Spirit God of legend.
It was what he had once yearned to see.
But there was nothing here that he needed. Was he supposed to carry off the Spirit Deer’s corpse or something?
He really didn’t think someone as weak as him could do anything here.
Hearing Umberto’s words, Kane also found it a bit strange.
"Going by what you need right now, what you should be looking for is an existence that can restrict and bind these spirits, or at least a method that can accomplish that."
As he said this, Kane turned his head to look at the Silver chain beside him.
This being was probably the strongest one here. It might know things Umberto did not.
And it was itself a spirit.
"Do you know of any method to restrain these ordinary spirits, to stop them from casually possessing humans?"
Hearing Kane’s question, the voice once again sounded in the air.
"Spirits are a natural part of this world. The various reactions produced when they possess humans are the instincts of these spirits, the rules of this world."
At those words, Kane waved his hand. "I know. What I’m asking is whether there’s a way or not. If not, then either all spirits disappear, or this world leaves the protection of the Mist and perishes on its own."
Though Kane’s words sounded a bit cold, that was simply how things stood.
Spirits that couldn’t be controlled were nothing special to the Mist—if anything, they were a source of disaster.
At that point, only the intelligent beings still alive here would hold any value.
After Kane finished, the air fell silent.
Then the air began to tremble again.
"A Spirit God can do it. The Spirit Deer of the past could restrain these ordinary spirits. He was like the King of all spirits, able to issue decrees to them."
Hearing this, Kane shook his head helplessly. "That won’t work. This deer is already dead, and has been dead for far too long."
If this deer had only just died, Kane could still have paid some price to bring it back.
But judging by the state of things, it had been dead for who knew how many years.
After he finished speaking, Kane thought for a moment and asked, "Then is there any other existence like this deer, or at least something close to reaching its level?"
If there was another being like this deer, the problem would be easy. Even if not, as a second-best option, if there was someone whose strength was about to reach this deer’s level, Kane and the others could bestow blessings and forcibly push it up.
"No. Before the shattering, there were, but after the world broke, the strongest on this Fragment was the Spirit Deer. Even those whose power neared his, who were close to reaching his level, no longer exist.
The strongest spirit currently existing is me, but compared to the Spirit Deer of the past, I am still very, very far behind."
It seemed they would have to think of another way.
At this moment, Umberto seemed to remember something. He squatted down, opened the wooden box on his back, and took out from a hidden compartment the drawing of that fruit Harry had given him a few days ago.
"This fruit might be able to do it."
Hearing Umberto’s words, the others shifted their gaze toward him.
"What is that fruit? You remembered?"
Umberto nodded.
