Slowly Falling into His Love Trap
Chapter 285: Could He... Be Thinking of Divorce?
Hearing the word "disturb" in Caden Lockwood’s words, Evelyn’s legs went weak, and she barely managed to stay upright.
Her face turned pale in an instant, and she looked at Caden’s resolute ice-cold expression, feeling a sting at the tip of her nose.
"I’ve already apologized to you," Evelyn murmured. "You deceived me before, saying we had been intimate, and you haven’t apologized to me either, but I forgave you. Why do you always hold onto things like this and..."
The words trailed off, feeling his growing anger, she could only shut her mouth.
Caden’s anger flared even more, glaring at Evelyn, an overwhelming coldness pushed her back.
Evelyn felt helpless and somewhat wronged; she had come to appease him and had apologized, so why was he still not showing her a kind face?
Hadn’t Aunt May said that as long as she sweet-talked Caden nicely, he wouldn’t stay angry?
But that’s not how it is at all!
"Then... I’ll be leaving," Evelyn said softly, "Uncle, please... don’t stay upset too long, goodbye."
As she spoke, she looked again at the breakfast in her hand, hesitated for a moment, and asked, "Then... should I leave the breakfast here? Eat it if you want; if you don’t, just throw it away."
Hearing this, a flash of determination and ruthlessness appeared in Caden’s eyes. He looked at the lunchbox Evelyn placed beside his desk, and his lips curled into a very cold arc.
He picked up the lunchbox, glanced at Evelyn, saw the joy appearing on her face, and immediately tossed the lunchbox into the trash can.
The lunchbox fell into the trash with a "thud," and it was as if Evelyn’s heart fell and shattered on the ground, being crushed mercilessly, leaving her breathless from the pain.
In that instant, a strange sense of satisfaction surged in Caden’s heart.
Seeing the agonizing expression of her being struck down was unexpectedly gratifying!
This is how life should be.
He must remain in a position of strength, making others bow down!
He shouldn’t dwell on how much heartache or sympathy he might feel for her at that moment; he only knew he was victorious then.
But at the end of victory lay a profound bitterness and pain.
Her vision suddenly blurred, Evelyn stood there, staring fixedly at the breakfast in the trash, opening her mouth but unable to say a word.
Her whole body trembled slightly, clenching her fist, trying not to feel so bad.
She was the one who made the first mistake, so however he wanted to treat her was his right.
If he didn’t want to forgive her and wanted to distance himself, it was understandable.
But why did her heart hurt so much?
She came with full expectation and made breakfast with extra care, thinking she would be forgiven after coming.
But in reality, it wasn’t like that at all!
She sniffled, suppressing the sadness in her heart, wanting to say something more when Caden stood up.
His gaze did not linger on her much, brushing past her shoulder straight away, calling out to Sean Ashton outside the door: "Let’s go to the meeting room for a conference."
The spacious office was left with only Evelyn. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
The overwhelming coldness still existed, invading her body and attacking her insides, freezing her last bit of courage, optimism, confidence, and expectations.
Tears welled up in her eyes; she didn’t want to become someone who cries easily.
How annoying!
She clearly didn’t cry much in the past!
But why did it seem like she had been crying more and more frequently lately?
Staying here would only invite more dislike and contempt, Evelyn lowered her head and walked out of the office sullenly.
This time, Caden really disliked her!
Would he possibly... consider divorce?
At the thought of this possibility, Evelyn trembled violently.
Before she could comfort herself, she heard Shannon Dunn’s voice: "Evelyn? You’re here? So early, are you looking for Caden for something?"
