Sold for 300, I Fight Back with Superpowers
Chapter 204: Are You Interested?
"Oh, no, that’s alright. My friend is injured and needs his wound treated. You all should get back to your work." Seeing the eager gleam in the man’s eyes, Su Qing instantly understood his intentions.
’Heh, as if I’d want to join the police force. I spent eight years fighting and killing in my past life. I just want to live a peaceful, carefree life now. How wonderful it is to earn money and enjoy it!’
With that, Su Qing turned to Cheng Beize and said, "Let’s go back."
"Okay." Cheng Beize was still a bit shaken by what had just happened, but he had his share of experience and quickly composed himself. He nodded to the lead officer, then returned to the private compartment with Su Qing.
Cheng Beilin had been waiting in the compartment, expecting Su Qing and Cheng Beize to return with their food. When she saw that they had not only come back empty-handed but that Cheng Beize’s arm was also injured, she exclaimed, "Brother, what... what happened? How did you get hurt?"
Cheng Beize clutched his arm and smiled. "It’s nothing. Don’t worry."
Su Qing took out a bottle of medicinal powder and said to Cheng Beize, "Let’s treat that first."
"Yes, Brother, hurry up and put the medicine on." Cheng Beilin was terribly frightened. Even though she hadn’t seen the injury itself, the blood staining Cheng Beize’s sleeve told her it must be deep.
"Okay. Thanks, Su Qing," Cheng Beize said with a nod.
Just as they finished applying the medicine to Cheng Beize’s arm, there was a knock at the compartment door.
Cheng Beilin opened the door to find a man standing outside. He wasn’t a train attendant. She asked, "Excuse me, who are you looking for?"
It was the lead officer from before.
When the man saw Cheng Beize and Su Qing inside, he knew he was in the right place. He smiled at Cheng Beilin and said, "I’m looking for them."
Cheng Beilin glanced back at Su Qing and Cheng Beize, then stepped aside to let him in. The man entered, carrying several food containers. He placed them on the table and smiled. "Let me introduce myself. My name is Feng Bozhou, and I’m a captain with the Bingcheng City Public Security Bureau. It’s a pleasure to meet you both. I’m truly sorry you were frightened by what happened earlier. Please accept these dishes as a small token of my apology."
"You’re too kind, Captain Feng," Cheng Beize said.
Feng Bozhou glanced at Cheng Beize’s bandaged arm. "You were injured because of all this," he said. "Why don’t you give me an address? When I get back, I’ll apply for some compensation from the bureau and have it sent to you."
"That’s not necessary. It’s not a big deal." Cheng Beize smiled, unconcerned about the compensation money.
Beside them, Cheng Beilin’s eyes went wide. "What on earth happened? Brother, how did you get injured?"
"It’s nothing," Cheng Beize quickly reassured his sister. Su Qing gave Cheng Beilin’s shoulder a gentle pat. At that, Cheng Beilin could only purse her lips and say no more. ’I’ll get a clear explanation out of them as soon as our guest leaves,’ she decided.
Feng Bozhou exchanged a few more pleasantries with Cheng Beize before turning to Su Qing with a smile. "I saw you in action earlier. You’re very skilled. Have you had professional training?"
At this, the corner of Su Qing’s mouth twitched.
’I knew it.’
"No, I’m just a farm girl. I do manual labor every day, so I’m a bit strong," Su Qing said with a faint smile.
Feng Bozhou was taken aback. Frankly, if Su Qing hadn’t said it herself, he never would have guessed she was from a village. Her looks, her demeanor, and the way she spoke were a world apart from his idea of a "village girl." He would have sworn she was from the city, or perhaps a university student.
"Do you live in a village near Bingcheng?" Feng Bozhou asked, adept at masking his surprise.
"No, a village in Xiyuan County."
’Xiyuan County is still part of Bingcheng,’ Feng Bozhou thought. He then smiled and said, "You’re really something. That kick of yours earlier was incredible."
As he spoke, Feng Bozhou gave Su Qing a thumbs-up. He was genuinely impressed. He could probably muster that much force in a kick himself, but for a young woman, it was astounding. At the very least, very few of the officers on his own team had that kind of skill—it was clean, decisive, and without a single wasted motion.
"Thank you. I didn’t really think about it at the time," Su Qing replied with the same faint smile.
"So, you’re not currently employed, is that right?" Feng Bozhou didn’t beat around the bush and got straight to the point. "I was wondering, would you have any interest in joining the Bingcheng Public Security Bureau? Rest assured, as long as you pass the assessment, you’ll become an official officer. The pay is good, we’ll arrange for a dormitory, and the benefits package is excellent."
Feng Bozhou felt even more confident he could recruit Su Qing. ’After all, a girl from the countryside would never turn down a chance to work in the city, especially at such a great job.’
Cheng Beilin was floored. ’What is going on? How did Su Qing go to the dining car to find my brother and come back with a job offer from the Public Security Bureau? What on earth happened just now?’
She glanced again at her brother’s arm. ’Something really serious must have happened just now.’
Cheng Beize, sitting opposite them, was also a little surprised by Feng Bozhou’s offer to Su Qing. He was happy for her, though. ’The city’s Public Security Bureau is a great organization,’ he thought. ’If she could get in and do some clerical work, it would be an excellent choice for her.’
But to the surprise of all three, Su Qing refused. "I’m sorry, but I’m not interested. I’m very happy with my life as it is and have no plans to change it."
Feng Bozhou never imagined she would refuse. He quickly said, "Are you concerned about the pay? Don’t worry, I will definitely help you secure the best possible compensation package. With your skills, it won’t be a problem."
Su Qing smiled. "It’s not about the pay. I just genuinely don’t enjoy working. I prefer a more leisurely life."
Since Su Qing had put it that way, Feng Bozhou couldn’t press the matter. He could only say, "Well, that’s a real shame. However, if you ever change your mind, you can come find me at the Bingcheng City Public Security Bureau anytime. My offer will remain open."
"Okay, thank you." Though she had no intention of taking him up on it, Su Qing appreciated his kind gesture.
As soon as Feng Bozhou left, Cheng Beilin immediately burst out, "What on earth just happened? Why did the police show up? Brother, how exactly did you hurt your arm? And, Su Qing, you kicked someone?"
She looked back and forth between them, her face a mask of confusion.
"Ah, it was nothing. We just ran into a criminal being chased by the police. He took me hostage for a moment, but thankfully Su Qing showed up and sent the guy flying with a kick." Cheng Beize knew he couldn’t hide it now that Feng Bozhou had been there, so he explained it in an understated way. "It’s nothing, it’s all over now. See? I’m fine."
