SSS Awakening: I Can Steal Attributes
Chapter 122: Diamond Back Snake
The fleeting thought crossed his mind as the two continued their journey forward.
There was truly no way of knowing it. Unless she reveals the classes available for her to choose from.
A few moments later, they encountered another monster.
This monster was not exactly in their way, but the two of them decided to hunt it after Lexie’s request.
To be more precise, it was Lexie who hunted it, and Desther’s help only extended to helping her find the target.
The monster this time was actually one that Desther had not faced before.
The monster was a huge snake with a diamond pattern on its back. Its body was as thick as Desther’s thigh, and its length could easily reach over eight meters from Desther’s initial estimate.
When they arrived, it had coiled around a massive tree, camouflaged with its trunk.
If not for his Sense skill, it would surely be hard to spot it normally.
Although seemingly asleep, Desther and Lexie noticed that it was actually poised to attack. Its body was taut like an arrow, ready to launch forward the moment they reached its attack range.
From his sense, Desther could still see that it was strong as well.
For monsters like this, it was already expected that they would have a skill or two at their own disposal.
Despite its threatening poise, Lexie still did not hesitate and went forward to fight it head on.
Dether remained standing a few meters away, observing the battle as it raged on.
Like her usual attack pattern, Lexie began by dashing toward the snake with lethal speed.
Her body blurred in motion as she unsheathed her sword out of its scabbard.
By the time her figure arrived in front of the snake, the sword was already fully drawn, and she was already poised to strike the snake’s head.
As the blade descended down, Desther noticed a faint yet intense vibration on it, threatening to cleave the snake’s head into two with one fatal strike.
The snake was clearly surprised at the sudden intrusion of Lexie right in front of it.
It was waiting in ambush yet did not expect that it would ambush in return.
As the sword descended, the snake reacted unbelievably fast. With one swift motion, it jerked back its head to evade the incoming strike.
Seeing its swift reaction, Lexie did not falter and immediately switched the direction of her blade just as it had missed its head.
Continuing the momentum, the sword hummed and slashed the snake’s slithering body instead.
The sound of metal clashing metal echoed; the diamond patterns on the snake’s skin, previously dim, suddenly lit up with glowing light.
Sparks flew as the sword threatened to slash it apart.
Like a saw shearing through wood, the sword vibrated intensely as blood began to seep out of the snake’s diamond skin.
Although wounded, the diamond patterns held on, stopping the sword from going deeper.
The snake hissed in anger and rage. Its arched head was poised to attack Lexie in a swift manner.
In one swift motion, the snake’s taut body was released like an arrow, launching a bite toward Lexie’s head.
Lexie was surprised by its sudden boost in defensive strength.
Her vibrating sword was one she developed and practiced using her talent. Using her own speed, she transfers the minute vibrations toward the blood, making it cut like a saw, increasing its sharpness and lethality.
As the snake tried to attack, she once again used her skill to shift her body away from the snake’s attack. She blurred and appeared a step away, her sword and the blade already descending toward the head of the snake.
Just as her sword struck the snake’s, it once again activated its skill to harden its body with the diamond patterns on its skin.
Although her attack was once again blocked, she was not disheartened and instead kneed the snake’s mouth as it tried to swerve away.
Her strength was not as lethal as her speed, but it was still a force to be reckoned with.
The snake felt the impact and the force of her knee; its body, previously coiled tightly on the tree, loosened a little bit.
Seeing the opportunity, an idea struck Lexie as if an epiphany had suddenly occurred and gnawed on her mind.
With one swift motion, she withdrew her sword and slid under the snake’s head.
There, she saw the underside of the snake, perfectly exposed and weak with soft and jelly-like scales.
Her eyes lit up, and without hesitation, the sword cleaved upward with unbelievable momentum and force.
The vibration on its blade intensified, and as she expected, the blade cut right through the snake’s underside.
There was no unbreakable diamond pattern to block her strike; the snake perished with one swift slash that separated its head from the body.
The head landed on the ground as its body loosened its grip on the tree.
Exhaling softly, Lexie endured the pain in her lat as she sheathed the sword with practiced motion.
Just then, her gaze became unfocused and still, as if locking toward the empty void, staring at what was beyond it, no matter how impossible it seemed.
But a few meters away, Desther knew what she was going through.
The last bit of experience she needed was fulfilled, and now, she was also trying to pick a class and finally ascend to Tier 1.
Desther moved his gaze away from her, focusing it on the screen that flashed on his eyes instead.
[ Marked target eliminated! ]
[ Free Attributes: +9]
[ Theft Mark: 10/10 ]
[ You have killed monaster- Diamond Back Snake- Experience Points +0.2%]
With this addition, his total Free Attributes rose to 252. His experience points, on the other hand, were now at 25.2%.
Although just a small increment, it was still an increase he welcomed nonetheless.
Closing the interfaces, Desther’s gaze once again shifted toward Lexie.
There, she stood unmoving and vulnerable.
Her pose was relaxed, yet Desther knew for a fact that as of this moment, she was also undergoing a life-changing situation just like what he had experienced before.
Choosing a class was never easy to begin with. Even more so if the options were each of particular significance that could hardly outdo the other.
However, in the end, one must still choose only one.
It was the rule, and even he, a title holder deemed as the [Chosen One] was not spared of it.
Now, Desther was curious as to what class she would transform into.
This curiosity remained hidden deep inside him, though.
A mere food for thought for someone that overthinks all the time.
And after a moment that felt like an eternity for the both of them, Lexie finally opened her eyes.
