Chapter 249: What Does It Mean to Be an Umbrawyric King!?
"What does it mean to be an Umbrawyric King?" White asked, and silence descended around him.
He watched her stir from her seat and turned to the side.
"There would be a throne for the King," she said, pointing a finger toward the side. "It’s a head taller than my throne too."
She looked at him then, but quickly noticed there was no visible excitement whatsoever at the mention of that.
"I mean being an Umbrawyric King," he repeated.
She hmmed quietly for a while before, all of a sudden, rose to her feet.
"Abdamus!"
Her call echoed through the throne room, and a second later, the entire hall shook as a massive creature appeared.
It was one of those giant guard Umbrawyrs that had initially led White here.
"Yes, My Queen."
The giant naturally fell onto a single knee.
She stepped forward, her palms landing on his head before she whispered,
"Fetch me a random Umbrawyr."
In the next instant, the giant disappeared once more, and silence filled the throne room for about five seconds before he reappeared again.
This time, however, he wasn’t alone.
There were two of them now, the giant Umbrawyr and another Umbrawyr.
This one was skinnier looking, a male around three meters tall.
He was shaking on his feet from having been suddenly snatched up by a Guard Umbrawyr, but then he met eyes with her.
White watched him step back twice in disbelief before, all at once, he fell onto all fours and bowed his head.
"My Queen!"
He cried out in shock.
Her expression remained neutral as she stepped closer to him. She passed by the side of the guard, swiftly and perfectly pulling out his short knife that was, of course, the size of a long sword.
With it, she walked toward the bowing Umbrawyr, lifting his head with a finger before raising him up to his knees.
Then, quietly, she placed the sword in his hands.
"Kill yourself."
She whispered, and White’s heart almost leapt out of his chest from the horror.
She had just ordered an Umbrawyr to kill himself.
At first, White thought he was about to witness the giant forcibly trying to carry out her order, but he was deadly mistaken.
He watched the ordinary Umbrawyr shake in fear for a second before, all at once, he suddenly gripped the sword’s hilt and rose onto one knee, raising the blade high with both hands, its end pointed directly at his own neck.
"On the Order of my Queen!"
He shouted all at once, and then,
RIIIIIIIIIP!
The sound of tearing echoed throughout the throne room as the sword was forced straight toward his own throat.
There was no hesitation. Not even the slightest trace of it.
The Umbrawyr drove the sword downward with absolute resolve, but then there was resistance and no pain at all, forcing him to open his eyes.
Right there, the sword that had been meant to drive into his neck had not.
Instead, something had replaced it, a dark hand, its palm ripped open by the blade.
In the end, White had interfered.
He had allowed the sword to stab into his hand instead before tilting his palm, causing the blade to miss the man’s neck entirely and saving him from dying by his own hands.
But then,
BAAAAM!
White felt himself knocked away by the man as the Umbrawyr scrambled for the sword in White’s hand, trying to stab himself again.
"Halt."
Her order pierced through the hall, and everything froze instantly.
"You may leave now."
Immediately, the guard moved, grabbing onto the man once more, both of them teleported out of the room.
It left only her and White standing opposite each other, his hand dripping with dark blood with the sword still stuck in his palm.
He drew it out in one smooth stroke before turning to her.
"You would murder an innocent Umbrawyr. For what?"
"To show you what it means to be an Umbrawyric King," she replied simply.
"As an Umbrawyric Queen, the Umbrawyrs follow my orders absolutely. I’m sure you saw that yourself," she said.
"The status of a Queen is equal to that of a King, and to some rare Umbrawyrs, even higher."
She explained, and it would be a lie if White said he didn’t perfectly understand.
In fact, this was exactly the answer he had wanted.
’So that is what it means to be an Umbrawyric King...Giving Orders that must be absolutely obeyed by the Powerful Umbrawry race.’
He thought quietly, and right then the system notification panel flashed.

It said, and White’s heart pumped loudly within his chest as he forced out a breath to calm his wildly spiking heartbeat.
’The rewards...’
It was the greatest reward of any mission he had ever obtained until now.
Besides, the quest matched perfectly with the secret plans White had already been hatching at the back of his mind, before he even appeared here in the Umbrawry’s realm.
[A/N: Can you guess what his secret plan is? Lol.]
He turned toward the Umbrawyric Queen, whose crimson-nebulae eyes remained fixed on him, and said,
"I’m ready to begin the training."
The moment the words left his mouth, her heartbeat increased by a single beat.
The conviction burning within his eyes...
They were not the eyes of someone simply greedy enough to ascend a throne, like she expected.
No.
They carried an intense determination bordering on insanity, like someone who had already decided he would either succeed or die trying.
The sight of it unsettled her.
Just moments ago, he had possessed the visage of someone questioning whether any of this was even worth his time, yet now... 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
"Very well."
She answered, and he watched her rise from her throne.
Stretching her hands forward, a massive crimson vortex appeared once more as she stepped toward him, coming to stand before both him and the spinning vortex.
"Let’s Begin Our Journey..."
