SSS Awakening: Starting With Infinite Soul Copy
Chapter 81: It Begins
"It’s a Werewolf."
She said with a grin as another masked figure approached, presenting a box with a pair of gloves that she quickly donned.
"No."
White mused beneath his lips, feeling the world turn blurrier, his thoughts crawling to a stop.
"No?"
The crimson-haired woman asked as cackles echoed through the lab.
"Feisty, you don’t know how lucky you are. There hasn’t been a high-potential Werewolf Genome Fusion in 13 months now."
"2 years ago, we had three, and two of them failed to survive the fusion, making only one successful."
"This is essentially someone awakening an S-rank, and they say no. Ridiculous, no?"
She said, putting on her mask.
Hers were different. It had many wire heads all connected to a dark, runic machine behind her.
All six moved to stand around him as the overhead light was lowered, casting a crimson glow over his chest while blinding White.
"You’re gonna feel some pain from this, Feisty, but that’s a good thing as the second you don’t feel that pain any longer...you die."
"Now...we begin."
"Starting Werewolf Heart Transplant."
"First Procedure: A Vertical Incision from The Chest to The Navel Cut."
"Second Procedure: Upper Ribs Severance."
...
The world moved too slow, yet equally too fast.
It was an unexplainable sensation, and the only thing White about it was that it was the result of whatever she stabbed into his neck.
He had thought that was an anesthetic or something, but he was wrong.
What that thing did was most likely prevent him from getting knocked out by the pain.
And talking of the pain, it was mind-rupturing.
Every touch on his body seemed to have been heightened 100 times more, making him feel every single thing that touched his skin.
...the surgical knife digging into his skin,
...blood trickling down.
...the humming of cutting machines that cut open his ribs, drilling away at his bones. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
...the hands wrapping around his organs, shifting them repeatedly.
Every single sensation was clearly felt, along with searing pain, but screaming out or spasming never occurred to him.
It was like his ability to scream or react violently in response to the pain had been taken away.
All it did was keep him awake, but as time passed, it began to fade.
The world darkened more and more, and he could see the golden notification blinking red in front of his eyes, but the message was too blurry...he couldn’t make out the content.
SLAP!
A sharp pain on his cheek followed by the word that managed to pierce through the clouding darkness.
"STAY AWAKE!"
"DO NOT FALL TO DARKNESS! STAY AWAKE!"
Those words did the trick, as his eyes, covered in crimson veins, snapped wide open once more.
The sensation of cut and touch increased as if things were being sped up.
’Stay...awake.’
The thoughts echoed in his head, the only thoughts he had, and he tried to keep his eyes open, but he was failing.
He could feel the veins in his eyes rupturing, as blood began to cloud his eyes, leading him to want to shut them closed.
’Stay awake.’
It occurred to him, and even as blood clouded his vision completely, his eyes remained wide open.
____
"We’ve created a wide enough space for the heart! We begin the transplant...now!"
The mechanical voice echoed out, and in the next moment, a large glass box was brought forward.
Within it was an object that pounded within the liquid, sending a ripple through the glass.
Gently, a hand opened up the glass top, before another one dipped in, bringing out the object.
It was a heart.
A heart in a bizarre color: blue.
It was brought down closer to the wide-open hole in White’s body, which allowed one to see the squirming organs and his beating heart.
Once more, another pain assault began, and this time it was a hundred-fold worse than before.
It was enough to send his body into spasms, the binds holding him beginning to tear apart, yet he still didn’t escape.
Hands grabbed at his body, pinning it deeper to the bed, the floor beneath cracking into pieces from the force.
The operation continued without pause, lasting for longer than White could make sense of.
The number of times he was slapped he couldn’t count, nor could he make sense of how many times they shouted for him to stay awake.
But e eventually, he failed to keep his eyes open and drifted off into the darkness.
_______
Cold.
Ice-cold.
That was how it felt being here.
’Ahhhh,’
He exhaled once, and white smoke puffed out of his lips, as his bones clattered in his body.
’Where am I?’
White muttered but couldn’t hear his own voice.
It disappeared into the darkness before it could even reach his ears.
It was freezingly cold, and his legs seemed to be buried deep within something.
Trying to make a feel for what it was, one word occurred to him,
Snow.
He was in a snowy area.
He constantly moved his neck, eyes looking all around at the darkness.
He tried to move, to gain a few steps away from this hellishly cold prison, but that was a difficult task.
One, because there was too much snow, it reached up to his knee, and two:
’Something....something’s watching me.’
The thought echoed in his head as he constantly swerved his neck around.
Finally, he saw something.
A blue flicker of light.
It started as one, then became two, and slowly grew larger.
A stifling sensation filled White, his heart pounding beyond far beyond his control.
He watched as that light moved closer, at first around the same height as his waist, but as it moved closer, it began to rise into the air.
Eventually, it towered far above him, forcing him to raise his neck up to see it.
As it came closer, he began to notice something unusual:
The two blue lights maintained the same distance from each other, now that it was closer, he was able to make it out:
A slit in the shape of a half-moon within the blue light, and it glowed with a different color:
Golden.
"No...No...No!"
