Chapter 34: One Against a Pack (2)

His frenzied movements, devoid of any grace, enabled him, in the end, to break free from the jaws and claws of his enemies, but at what cost.

For in exchange for his partial freedom, much of the flesh from his body remained in the mouths of the wolves around him, did he feel pain? Yes, very much so.

Endurance was his only option, for if his attention was distracted even for a brief moment, he would die.

He knew the wolves would soon surround him again, so he activated the Regeneration skill, and at the same time, opened the "Dimensional Storage," and out of nowhere a flower crown appeared above his head.

At that moment, his pain eased greatly, and he felt vitality returning to his body. The crown’s effects supported the Regeneration skill, increasing its effectiveness.

His wounds closed at a rapid pace, which struck all the wolves surrounding him with astonishment. This was very strange, for the wolf species is not known for possessing the Regeneration skill, especially at lower Ranks.

An interesting piece of information, of which Arthur had a vague idea, was that every monster species specializes in a certain field of Skills linked to their innate abilities.

For example, the wolf species is known for its Enhanced Senses, because of which they possess skills like Tracking, in addition to high resistance against illusion-based attacks.

And as they say, where there is light, there is darkness, for every monster species also has deadly weaknesses, and in the case of wolves, their weakness is their powerful senses themselves, if they are affected in some way or nullified, well, that’s a serious problem.

In any case, Arthur did not take a defensive stance, or give himself time to recover. Killing intent filled his eyes, and without any hesitation, he took the initiative and pounced on an E-Rank wolf.

At the same time, one of the wolves at the back raised its head and howled very loudly, while the rest pounced on him.

They bit into his back and legs, but he didn’t care. No, more accurately, he didn’t spare himself. He let them wound him to ensure his attack reached its target. He grabbed the wolf, and tore it apart savagely.

[ +20 XP ]

He directed his commands to the system to distribute all the Evolution Points he had gained, to Endurance and Strength. Then he turned, and bit the head of a wolf that had torn a chunk of flesh from his thigh.

[ +6 XP ]

He crushed its skull. At that very same moment, an E-Rank wolf pounced on his neck. His eyes widened, and he pulled his head back at his maximum speed.

He stood on his hind legs like a horse, and because of his great strength, he lifted with him all the wolves that were biting him. He fell heavily on his back then twisted violently, the claws of his four legs slashed in every direction, tearing the faces of many of them.

He broke free from their jaws, but that only lasted for a brief moment, for they pounced on him again, an E-Rank wolf bit him in the shoulder, and wrenched a massive piece of his flesh, then retreated.

"Get away from me." Arthur let out a thunderous growl. All the wolves trembled, and involuntarily obeyed his command, and retreated a few steps backwards.

He took a deep breath, and without wasting the opportunity, pounced on an E-Rank wolf. The wolf resisted savagely, and after a brief exchange of biting and tearing, he managed to kill it.

The rest of the wolves did not interfere, on the contrary, they retreated further, given the intensity of the fighting, Arthur was not aware that he had killed most of the E-Rank wolves, and the few remaining, had begun losing the desire to fight.

For the first time in several minutes, silence returned to the place. Not one of them dared to growl, or look directly into his eyes, he had completely dominated them.

But behind that lethal coldness present on his face, his thoughts and emotions were in absolute chaos that not even his bloodline could suppress.

The Primal Predator bloodline, despite its greatness, did not have absolute authority over Arthur’s human side, and unfortunately, that human side had entered a state of madness from the intense pain, and absolute desperation.

The seconds passed at an agonizing slowness, some wolves retreated further, while some showed a hesitant intention to attack, then suddenly a powerful howling sound came from a nearby area.

At that moment, all the wolves felt excitement, and raised their heads releasing a unified howl, their hesitation disappeared, they bared their fangs again, and their growling grew louder.

"Damn." Arthur’s expressions darkened, he was mad, yes, but not stupid enough to not realize that more of them were coming. This was a nightmare he wished he could wake up from.

Unfortunately for him, no miracles happened, and what he feared occurred, after a few seconds, more wolves surrounded him, nine of them at E-Rank.

"Come at me." He growled with all his strength, then surged toward them, without waiting for them to make the first move.

Because of the effects of the King’s Dominion skill, his roar had a psychological effect on them, making them freeze in their places in terror for a brief moment.

He used this narrow window of time to kill an E-Rank wolf, before the rest pounced on him, and once again as before, he was buried amid their many bodies.

They gnawed at his flesh without stopping, tore his limbs apart, his bones cracked, his body was riddled with holes, even much of his organs became visible to the eye.

And despite all of this, Arthur remained standing, he bit, tore, cut, kicked, did everything he possibly could... and more.

Wolf after wolf, the carcasses fell, his XP bar rose at a frantic speed, and in contrast his HP bar dropped at a faster rate.

Automatically, he distributed every Evolution Point he gained across his Attributes, focusing on Vitality, but that barely kept him standing, his valor, courage, madness, shocked all the wolves, and made them intensely afraid.

A minute passed, five, ten, they no longer even knew why they were fighting, and after a quarter of an hour of bloody hell, Arthur reached his limit.

His body which had no part of it left intact staggered, and showed signs of falling.

Expressions of terror filled the wolves’ faces, they walked around him in circles growling with savage ferocity and intense hatred.

"Die."

"Fall."

"Die."

Even though he was in a terrible state, none of them dared to approach him, and how could they, for the pile of carcasses beneath him was proof of what happens to whoever dares.

A weary smile appeared on Arthur’s face, the smile of defeat that appears on the faces of men after everything is destroyed, he closed his eyes, then slowly leaned to the side, on the verge of collapsing.

"He is falling."

All the wolves growled in happiness, their tense bodies relaxed, and after a moment of hesitation one of them surged toward him, eager to take the first bite of his flesh, and urinate on his carcass.

In the monster world, there was an unwritten rule, which was that eating the flesh of monsters from the same species was forbidden, and this was due to several reasons, but given what Arthur had put them through, they yearned to do the worst things to him.

Another wolf charged him, and another, then more jostling each other, and the moment they reached him, he opened his eyes, he had not fallen, and most certainly had not died.

His smile widened, no longer weary, but sinister. He looked at them with unbelievable ferocity, while his body began regenerating at a rapid pace.
