SSS Void Ascension: I Devour All Elements
Chapter 84: A Promise
The Void sighed in a low tone. A notification popped in front of Killian. He glanced up lazily.
[Innate Skill Unhidden]
He lifted his head, staring at the WLog interface with questions written on his face. He tapped the screen.
[Abyss]↓
Like Mimicry it had a whole lot of information to read when Killian tapped down. A small smile crept to his lips. "Could you just summarize what it does?"
He was biologically opposed to reading.
The Void sighed again.
"I will add the rules binding the skill. It’s not as dangerous to use as Mimicry which had put you in danger by fusing the Void and Fire to rival Holy Fire and unlocked Corrupted Bloom. But don’t depend on it too much."
Killian stayed silent, waiting for his lecture to get to the best part. What the skill could actually do. Another screen popped up.
[Transfer Beast To Abyss?]
Killian waited till he had gotten the context from the Void.
"Time stops in the abyss. Not death. Suspension. If capacity doesn’t increase after ten days, it will expel the uneaten mass back to the exact spot it took it from."
Killian hummed, he leaned on the wall behind him. "So I have ten days to get to 300% capacity and consume my very first Knight. Since time stops in the abyss, then her corpse won’t rot."
That would’ve been disgusting to swallow but worth it since she deserved her body disrespected for hurting his family.
"Uh, she’s not dead." The Void reminded him.
"She will be when I can feel my legs." Killian promised. "Take her there to wait for me. And thank you for ’unhiding’ your skill for me."
He said the last part in a lighter patronizing tone that made the Void sigh for the third time within that minute.
The darkness on the ground beneath the fallen wolf opened slightly. It was pure black, not even reflecting the sun by a bit.
No sound came out of it so it just laid there like it wasn’t even there. The tendrils worked to push the wolf into the abyss.
A little too gently for Killian’s liking, the abyss sunk her into itself, small shadowy hands reaching for the body as it vanished. He looked down at Quara’s unconscious face and clenched his jaw.
The tendrils returned to him. "Ten days, huh... I will need to recover fast and get into real missions with my teammate, Keith. Ugh."
Silence.
Finally, a long exhale left Killian, releasing every part of his body. An exhale that hoped that everything was truly over and his sister could get a good night’s sleep.
He remembered Lady Helen, and raised his wrist watch to his face. There was an old message that he seemed to have gotten in before he had met with Helen.
It had a ’tap frantically and summon your hero’ written in small prints under the notification. Killian remembered when he did that.
[Lady H]
’Do you need a knight in shiny armour now?’
He swiped the message to the right but thought seriously about it. George had abandoned them anyway. "I should put pride aside and find a way to contact her—"
Someone landed nearby.
The strong scent of perfume was unmistakable, down to the distinct hair wash scent that struggled amidst the smoke and fumes around him. It was no one else but George.
George looked between the destroyed area, the lingering flames, and Quara unconscious in Killian’s arms.
Killian glared at him darkly, his eyes lidded to only show half of his red eyes that looked like the lower half of a red moon.
George looked at the damage again, and back to the siblings. "Yeah," he admitted quietly. "My bad. I deserve the glare."
George’s apology was rightfully due but Killian was still surprised the A-Rank Warden gave it.
Killian looked away, feeling angrier that George was trying to be understanding instead of staying as the suspicious mentor.
"Here. For you." George leaned down to his eye-level. "I heard you arguing about it. You don’t need to move, I’d shift the grounds."
Killian blinked once. Then twice. He leaned towards the mana restoration vial in George’s hand. "Are you giving it to me for free?" Was that how responsible he felt?
"Why is that surprising? I miscalculated the dangers and left a student under me as well as the Warden I came here to save to be hurt by..." George looked around again, a certain confusion framing his brows again. "... something. So yes, I feel responsible."
Mana restoration vials were really pricey and to give one for free was almost the equivalent of giving a vacation. Killian had spent all his WCoins and breached into his savings to get one.
But he didn’t ask many questions as it had freely been given. He tilted Quara’s head up, before feeding it to her.
George watched with a little smile on his face.
.
.
"Once again, the Dominics are all over television, being asked on social networks to cover their story. B-Rank Warden, Ignis Vera—"
BLAST!
The television got shut down by the nurse. She spun on one heel, facing the patient who had requested it to be turned off.
"Is there anything else you want, sir?" she asked sweetly, with a slight accent.
Killian’s hands were over his sister’s ears to prevent her from having trauma from loud sounds as she slept.
"No?" Killian said, his eyes never leaving the television that had been destroyed because of him. "Thank you. You can leave now."
The nurse’s smile never reached her eyes, as she strolled away, leaving the door open as was the tradition of Academy Hospitals.
Killian made sure the crazy nurse was gone, before dragging his eyes back to his older sister having blood and IV drip all over her body. He pulled his hand away from her and sighed.
Quara had also received a gift of a Mana Restoration Vial from Keith’s unknown fanboy, and since her mission was marked as complete, she didn’t lose out on the points allocated.
"All is well, that ends well." He pushed his IV stand as he left the room. He stood outside the door, adjusting.
There were no guards in front of him, yet he could see their presence. No one occupied a room on their floor, thanks to George, but Killian felt his movements were restricted.
Like there was no reason to feel like it was really over yet.
