Starting Cultivation in Wasteland
Chapter 696 - 566: The Tycoon and Three Eyes
Rein genuinely thought this guy was a slick one because he knew he was a B-level warrior.
When awakened individuals advance to B-level, their flexibility, coordination, and even eyesight see a significant improvement.
Out of ten B-level warriors, at least eight are suitable to become snipers. They may not be overly professional, but they definitely won't fall short.
Being a sniper is not demanding, and positioning is flexible. For a B-level warrior, it's an easy task.
So Rein was somewhat dissatisfied, having heard that hiring this guy required a substantial fee.
A bodyguard mission can be fatal! And now you're telling me that with such a high price, you only want to play the part of a half-baked sniper?
Qu Jianlei knew what he was referring to and wasn't upset, "I can handle their sniper!"
Snipers differ from one another! π§ππππΈπ¦π£πππ·ππ.π€π°π
Rein was momentarily stunned. Being responsible for assigning combat tasks, he naturally understood what Qu Jianlei meant.
Hence, he nodded, "Alright, I'll leave the northwest corner to you. I heard you're adept at technique combat as well?"
Qu Jianlei nodded and replied openly, "I'm fine with both single-target and area attacks."
He's never been a bodyguard but knows that within this group, endless humility isn't feasible.
Stone Pillar has always been displeased with him and spoke up, "Really? Shall we have a go?"
Qu Jianlei glanced at him indifferently, "I only know how to kill, not to perform. This is your second time... Next time, I'll kill you!"
"Tch," Stone Pillar scoffed, not taking it seriously, and said no more.
"Alright," Rein waved a hand, "let's go, you come with me to check out the area you're responsible for."
He wasn't verbose, but his introduction to the battlefield was very precise, soon clearly explaining Qu Jianlei's area of responsibility.
Then he queried, "Originally, twelve people were responsible here. How many should I leave for you?"
Though not eloquent, Rein was good at calculations. With a skilled person joining, naturally, some combat power needed redistribution.
Among these twelve, there are two C-level warriors and five modified warriors.
Qu Jianlei thought for a moment and answered, "Just leave a machine gunner and an observer."
He figured having someone to relay messages would suffice.
But upon second thought, since he was helping others in battle, why exert so much effort? Having a fire suppression point wasn't bad either.
After all, they were not teammates like Flower Scorpion, so without much hope for perfect synergy, he didn't expect much from the suppression effect.
Rein gave him a surprised look. This answer truly showcased his confidence.
After pondering, he added, "Stone Pillar has a team of twenty-four, best not to clash with them."
Qu Jianlei snorted indifferently, "If he doesn't provoke me, I can't be bothered with him."
Rein left, taking most of the people with him, leaving only machine gunner Fugui and observer Three Eyes.
Qu Jianlei made a simple acquaintance with these two.
Fugui was an ordinary person, and taking on such jobs, his professionalism was undeniable.
However, while suppressing, he was overly concerned with effect and lacked ammo conservation awareness, which earned him the nickname Fugui.
In the Wasteland, fighting Frost Wolf packs, such a machine gunner was unqualified, but in stark contrast, given the Luo Family's ample ammunition, he was deemed excellent.
Three Eyes was a modified warrior, adept at observing, hence the nickname, and particularly talkative.
While Qu Jianlei was getting acquainted with them, Rein returned to the center.
Stone Pillar saw him return with ten people, queried a bit, and whispered to Rein.
"This guy's origins are unclear. Only putting three people in that direction, isn't it too few?"
Rein answered expressionlessly, "It was an accidental encounter with an awakened person, unlikely to be a spy."
He knew well that Fugui and Three Eyes, like himself, were from the Luo Family's affiliated families.
There were no events that night, and the next morning, Three Eyes unexpectedly brought back a large amount of food.
At this protection point, in the morning, they enjoyed hot meals, but in the afternoon, to maintain secrecy, they relied on nutrient injections.
Simply put, the Luo Family's treatment was quite good, and any shortcomings were unrelated to financial power but purely due to conditions not permitting.
The day passed uneventfully again, marking Qu Jianlei's acquisition of ten thousand dollars.
On the third evening, the command center sent a message reporting suspicious vehicles in the vicinity.
They were not located in a no-man's land; a spacious road lay a few kilometers away.
It's normal for vehicles to pass, but the command center observed suspicious signals coming from certain cars.
Unfortunately, it was daytime, and the opponents wouldn't actively approach; hence it wasn't suitable for the defenders to initiate an attack.
This didn't surprise Qu Jianlei. He was slightly nostalgic, realizing he was always on the attacking side before.
Now, amidst the defending team, he found it relatively easier.
As it neared nighttime, several more suspicious vehicles appeared, but before the darkness fully set in, they all left.
The command center reminded everyone to stay alert tonight, as the reconnaissance might precede an imminent attack.
Conducting reconnaissance before an attack isn't meant to alert the enemy, not truly.
If the opponents didn't launch an attack today, the defenders could completely alter the deployments by tomorrow.
No need for a full change; a partial adjustment would significantly increase the difficulty of the assault.
However, the first half of the night passed quietly until around three or four in the morning when shadowy figures appeared around them.
The command center issued a warning, "Be careful, it's a mecha squad. Everyone, pay attention to control your firepower output."
Qu Jianlei also noticed the abnormality, but with the command center's warning, he was reluctant to take any extra action.
In this unfamiliar environment, it was wise to keep a low profile.
Over twenty mechas stealthily approached, primarily from due south and northeast.
There were scattered mechas in other directions, but they were relatively far, about three to four kilometers away.
Most of the bodyguards understood that what they faced was a probing attack, so no one fired recklessly.
In Qu Jianlei's northwest position, there were two machine cannon emplacements, also under the control of the wealthy.
In front of them was only one mecha, but in the auxiliary defense direction, there was another mecha faintly visible.
The wealthy liked firepower suppression, but they also restrained themselves from using the machine cannons.
Qu Jianlei had an anti-mecha sniper rifle on hand, but as others didn't act, he wouldn't either.
He felt a bit emotional, thinking how different prosperous planets were; private confrontations began with mechas.
The mechas from the south and northeast directions quickly advanced to within about two kilometers.
Both directions had commanders, and almost simultaneously, both directions opened fire.
Besides machine cannons, there were also anti-material sniper rifles, and gunfire erupted all at once.
The attacking side also knew that the opposing firepower was fierce, so the mechas all held alloy shields.
The fire exchange lasted less than two minutes before ferocious shells came from a distance, targeting various fire points.
"Damn..." Even Rein couldn't help but curse, "With such strong firepower, aren't they afraid of attracting the military?"
The Imperial forces valued martial arts and occupied many star realms. They typically turned a blind eye to the clashes of local powers.
It wasn't just because they couldn't control them, but also because there was no need; as long as the Planet Governor can stabilize the situation.
True heavy firepower was held by the Empire; small skirmishes below couldn't stir up much trouble.
Moreover, it cultivated a tradition of civilian valor; once deployed to the battlefield, there was no worry about failing.
The Luo Family's irreconcilable conflict with their opponents, hiring mercenaries willing to fight to the death, was clear evidence.
What truly mattered was those extraordinary powers that the Empire needed to firmly grasp in its hands.
However, even so, the engagement needed limits, so the two sides tacitly chose to confront outside the city.
But even though the battle had just begun, the other side used guided artillery, an intensity likely to draw military intervention.
Amidst the deafening artillery noise, a machine cannon point quickly went silent.
Shortly after, the defenders' artillery retaliated, guided by drones, targeting the opposing artillery positions.
The war instantly escalated.
Soon after, gunfire and cannon sounds erupted in other directions as well, beginning an attack on the roaming mechas.
The main attacking direction was hit by concentrated artillery, and other directions seized the opportunity to eliminate potential threats.
Fugui also sought Qu Jianlei's approval, "Should we use the machine cannon to take out that mecha?"
Originally, there were twelve defenders here, with two machine cannon positions and three machine gun positions, all under his control.
So even though the number of personnel was reduced, the survival chances of the wealthy actually increased quite a bit.
Because of this, he had no objections to bursting arrows and was willing to obey reasonable commands.
Qu Jianlei responded without hesitation, "No need for you to act, I'll do it!"
The opposing mecha was moving irregularly, with its mechanical arm holding a large alloy shield.
However, for ease of movement, the alloy shield wasn't lowered to the ground, keeping some distance from the surface.
The feet of most mechas had thick bases, which could withstand some of the damage from landmines.
However, during movement, the ankle joints of the mechas occasionally became exposed, a relatively weak point.
Qu Jianlei wielded the anti-mecha sniper rifle and hit the ankle joint with one shot.
Just as the mecha lost balance and tilted forward, another shot hit the mecha's chest, directly piercing the cockpit.
The next moment, he instant-flashed over ten meters away, targeting the mecha in the auxiliary defense zone.
This time he fired three shots; the second shot couldn't find a gap towards the chest, so he shot off one of the mechanical arms.
Without the mechanical arm, the mecha naturally lost its alloy shield. As the opponent struggled to balance the mecha, he fired the third shot.
The pilot of the second mecha also died in the cockpit.
Although the actions sounded complicated, it took him less than ten seconds to destroy two mechas in total.
Only then did the allied artillery hit the mecha in the auxiliary defense zone.
Others didn't notice his attack, but the wealthy and Three Eyes witnessed this process clearly.
"Beautiful," the two shouted in unison. Having such comrades on the battlefield, who wouldn't be happy?
Three Eyes further stated, "I'll definitely report these kills, both were taken down by you!"
