Starting Cultivation in Wasteland
Chapter 750 - 620: Rigid Dogmatism
Optimus was not surprised that the other party communicated with him privately; ordinary people can have privacy, and certainly so can the Supreme.
Upon hearing the word "cripple," he was momentarily stunned: thinking that he had seen many cripples.
Then he recalled someone, "That guy who competed with you for the woman?"
"Can you stop being so talkative?" This time, it was Buckingham whose face turned sour.
"It's not about competing for a woman, he's purely a despicable man... talking about this is pointless, you know we have a grudge, right?"
Optimus nodded, "I've heard a little about it... but just mentioning one name, how is that enough?" 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
The rivalry between these two was known to many, describing them as "lifelong enemies" was definitely not an exaggeration.
"He was already about to arrive soon," Buckingham replied expressionlessly... theoretically, it's less than an hour.
At this moment, he could only trust that Wind Attribute A-level, there was no other choice.
"This person should be on Celestial Sharp right now; as the Guardian Supreme, you should know, shouldn't you?"
A journey of a few hours couldn't be from space; it must be from other parts of the planet.
Optimus shook his head, answered straightforwardly, "I don't know, don't fool me."
Still, he knew clearly in his heart that on Celestial Sharp Star, hidden Supremes were more than just one or two.
When he started acting as Guardian, he had considered finding them all out to build a highly orderly society.
But after briefly attempting, he decisively gave up, as the reasons for Supreme's invisibility were varied, and there was no need to create trouble for himself.
Society's beatings can indeed teach one to behave, even being truly "Optimus" wouldn't be useful.
Since others had secrets, he simply ignores them, except for those who break the law, whom he certainly would handle—it's a matter of principle.
However, though Optimus had strong principles, he wasn't inflexible.
Although the other party couldn't present evidence, their angry expression clearly wasn't feigned.
And he happened to know that these two indeed had deep conflicts.
So he nodded, "Your reason somewhat satisfies me; I won't ask further."
"No, keep asking," Buckingham instead became eager, "Don't let me look down on you."
"Celestial Sharp Star is your territory, if someone is plotting against a Supreme here, for you to let it go lightly... could there be some benefit transfer?"
Transfer a benefit my ass! Optimus felt another impulse to go berserk, "With such a loose tongue, no wonder someone competed with you for your woman!"
"What did you say?" Buckingham's face darkened, "Are you seriously asking for a beating?"
Optimus was just too angry to hold back his sarcasm; what he cared about the most was his own duties.
"Since you insist I ask, then tell me... where did you get the information?"
Buckingham certainly couldn't say the information came from a stranger whose name he didn't even know.
"You can interrogate the Customs Enforcement Division; I'm sure more than one person knows... as long as you ask, you can definitely find out."
He was gambling, decisively betting that the young man hadn't deceived him.
But it wasn't a blind bet; the other party at least safely landed with his two juniors and demonstrated considerable strength.
Buckingham's insight was good; he immediately judged: even if he didn't attract attention, the other party could escape alone without much difficulty.
Is someone like that necessary to deceive him?
However, Optimus considered the matter on a completely different channel, giving a cold snort upon hearing.
"What you want is to use my hand to trouble the Customs Enforcement Division... do I look that foolish?"
Such misunderstandings are actually unavoidable; as Supremes are at the pinnacle of the Imperial pyramid, it's normal for them to be mutually aware.
Just like the rich list of the Divine Land's business community, the hero list of the martial world, people on such lists know each other, but may not understand.
Buckingham's temperament wasn't great either, "Then if I battle with another Supreme, would you dare to step out?"
Optimus rolled his eyes, smirked disdainfully, "Can you beat your rival?"
"Whether I can beat him or not is not your concern," Buckingham countered, "as long as you say you won't intervene... the rest is my business."
Even without looking for someone else, teaming up with that Wind Attribute A-level to kill the cripple... wouldn't be too hard, right?
He was knowledgeable and knew very well that the Wind Attribute wasn't easy to deal with.
Such Awakened are particularly fragile, with weak attacks, seemingly not impressive, at most adept at scouting information.
However, Wind Attribute Awakened are not used like that!
Those who can be spies can be assassins, even if everyone thinks the Wind Attribute Awakened's lethality is too weak.
Buckingham absolutely didn't believe the Wind Attribute's lethality was weak... do you understand what lethal means?
Mount Tai pressing down is lethal, thunder and lightning are lethal, and even sentimental affections and delicate beauty can still be lethal.
Sneaking in with the wind at night, moistening things silently—hearing thunder in silence is the highest realm of killing.
Optimus looked at him thoughtfully, "You seem very confident?"
Buckingham nodded, "If you don't intervene, killing a Supreme is no problem."
"Then I must intervene," Optimus was someone who didn't play by the rules, "I just want to see if you're deceiving me."
"That's the kind of talk I like!" Buckingham glared at him fiercely, "You're going too far!"
"It's my duty!" Optimus replied with his chin up, "If anyone really dares to scheme against Supreme, then I'll help you fight!"
Buckingham flickered and descended to the ground, "Remember what you said."
"Hmm?" Optimus looked bewildered, "What kind of... trick is this?"
Although he was puzzled, his reaction was swift, and he followed the other party down to the ground.
Seeing the two Supremes disappear, the two warships also slowly descended, but the transport ship seemed somewhat at a loss.
However, the Customs Enforcement Division had already realized that with Optimus having arrived, many things could no longer be concealed.
At the very least, the stowaways on the passenger starship couldn't just be silenced anymore.
However, the starship couldn't stop at the public star port; otherwise, everyone on Celestial Sharp Star would know.
As the starship descended, what happened on the way could no longer be disguised.
As for the other passengers, it was easier said than done. The port's management sent people to handle the necessary procedures directly.
These people, being officials of the Government, naturally knew what could be said and what couldn't.
The starship's crew and the stowaways, however, stayed temporarily at the Customs Enforcement Division's base.
How to handle the stowaways was a matter for the Customs Enforcement Division, and Optimus expressed that he wouldn't interfere.
As for the B-level who informed on Qu Jianlei, Buckingham casually remarked that such people are societal tumors.
The Customs Enforcement Division responded that appropriate arrangements would be made to avoid disappointment.
In fact, they were annoyed by this person so much that they were gnashing their teeth—if you hadn't meddled, would things have escalated this far?
Regarding the three who jumped off the starship midway, the Customs Enforcement Division indicated they weren't concerned—mere rhetoric, but it did show their stance.
However, Buckingham was more interested in: where were the Customs Enforcement team members who intercepted the starship for inspection?
The Customs Enforcement Division replied that the team was still on duty and would investigate after they returned.
It was imaginable that they vehemently denied the existence of a smuggling industry chain, insisting it was a coincidence.
By now, Buckingham wasn't anxious, stating they could play this slowly, as he had time to wait.
Next, he posed the most crucial question: What was the purpose behind ordering the starship to wait in the air today?
Then the warship took off, fired warning shots, and under whose direction was this done, what did they want?
The Customs Enforcement Division answered that it was the decision of today's duty commander, who has already fled in fear of punishment.
The duty commander was a seasoned B-level, so having such a person take the blame wasn't too perfunctory.
Buckingham believed it was absolutely impossible for a mere B-level to make such important decisions when there were four A-levels in the Customs Enforcement Division.
The Customs Enforcement Division replied that they would conduct an internal investigation and relay new information.
Buckingham sneered at this answer, but with Optimus present, he couldn't delve further.
Because the Guardian Supreme made it clear that the Customs Enforcement Division is a relatively independent department, and even Supreme can't intervene casually.
You can question the other party, and have the right not to accept their answer, but all you can do is keep questioning.
The Imperial Government has a structure in place, and if everyone could meddle freely, what chaos would ensue?
However, everyone present was aware that this was only the surface-level resolution.
Once Optimus Supreme left, Buckingham could employ a multitude of tactics, including but not limited to covert assassination.
As long as he's not caught red-handed without leaving incontrovertible evidence, no one can publicly handle a Supreme.
It's conceivable, being targeted by a Supreme... that feeling would indeed be thrilling.
However, Buckingham's challenge wasn't over.
He wanted a clear response from the Customs Enforcement Division: what was the purpose behind making the starship wait in the air for so long?
Surprisingly, Optimus didn't stop him; the Guardian Supreme understood well that this was related to a plot against a Supreme.
He wanted to know: whether Buckingham's accusations against the Customs Enforcement Division of colluding with cripples were true.
If the other party was merely making baseless claims, he wouldn't mind taking down this unruly Supreme.
The Guardian Supreme was genuinely impartial, but unfortunately, the Customs Enforcement Division's reaction was too perfunctory.
They firmly pinned the responsibility on the duty commander—it's his decision, we're not aware of the situation.
With things this far, Buckingham's purpose in inviting Optimus was now achieved.
He expressed regretfully, "You see, without any reason, the starship was detained in near-earth orbit, repeatedly delayed."
"As the Guardian Supreme of Celestial Sharp, can you tell me what they were waiting for?"
Optimus couldn't answer; after a long silence, he finally stated.
"Since that's the case, on behalf of the Celestial Sharp Star Government, I promise not to pursue your previous actions!"
"Just not pursue?" Buckingham scoffed, "You, this Guardian Supreme, really maintain perfect balance."
Optimus righteously answered, "Then provide evidence, I'll help you uphold justice, but mere words are not proof!"
