Chapter 1997: Chapter 1997: Red Butterfly Cards and the Auxiliary Room

"I won’t be having dinner here tonight. Miss Galina has just returned to Tobesk, so I’ll be having dinner at her place tonight."

Seeing Megan’s eyes, Shard awkwardly said a few words, then bowed his head and continued forward with the sisters in black and white dresses.

"What’s wrong with a relic? Anyway, they’re all beautiful girls, what’s wrong with that?"

Miss Sylvia remarked from the side, raising an eyebrow and it was unclear what she thought of.

Shard did not stay at the Green Lake Hotel; instead, he found the blushing Miss Rita Swift to retrieve Mia, and then returned to the city hotel with Grace and Helen, heading back to Saint Delan Square.

Of course, it wasn’t because he felt uncomfortable in the snowy land and wanted to go home; rather, he wanted the sisters to help check the blank Alchemical Cards left by Laplace Klein. And the sisters also had an important item they needed Shard to handle.

Those blank Alchemical Cards could seal items related to ancient stories of Enlightenment, becoming a power for Dorothy and Lecia to use, to prevent the fusion of their souls. Shard didn’t feel entirely secure about these cards, so he took Luviya’s suggestion and had Grace and Helen check them.

The sisters took a cursory look, then held the cards together. Red lines spread across the cards, until the frame of a fluttering red butterfly appeared on the blank card edges:

"These cards aren’t a problem, but after we handle them, they’ll be more suitable for their use. Sir, if you create more cards like these in the future, you should also get us to handle them."

Thus Shard named these cards "Red Butterfly Cards" to distinguish them from "Roder Cards" and "Calamity Cards."

After dealing with the cards, the three of them held hands and walked out from the basement together:

"So, sir, have you decided where to put it?"

Grace held a red orb in her hand; it was a product "Creation" during the Chosen of Space Ceremony, which now serves as a powerful divine item able to create a safe and stable additional space in any location. After an entertaining afternoon in the snowy field, the sisters intended to give it to Shard.

They thought Shard might be very interested in it, and of course, Shard didn’t mind having his house get a bit bigger:

"Let me confirm, if I place this orb somewhere now, it will create an additional space at that location, and its interior style will resemble the external space?"

"Yes, sir, so do you want to expand the room’s area, making its interior space larger without changing its footprint? Or do you want to create a new room?"

Helen asked eagerly.

Shard found it somewhat difficult to choose, as expanding a room’s size or adding a new room wasn’t practically useful for him since his house was already sufficiently large with three floors plus a basement and attic.

But the Outlander couldn’t completely refuse the allure of having a larger house. After some careful consideration, he made a decision:

"Create a new room. Currently, my Magic Potion and Alchemical Workshop is separated in a basement compartment, which isn’t safe. I want a new room to conduct these experiments."

"So where is the location?"

Grace asked again, walking up the stairs with Shard. The stairs weren’t very wide, so Helen fell behind with a slight pout of dissatisfaction.

"Let me think... forget the basement; it already has three doors. The attic won’t work, it’s too far, and I have to go up and down. I generally use the first floor for hosting guests, and the second floor is my living and working area, also used to entertain friends, and Mia mostly stays on the second floor when I’m not home... The third floor."

The third floor currently only has two significant facilities; in the hallway is the [Soul Graveyard], and the living room and side bedroom in Room One have excellent window positions, transformed into an astrology room by Luviya, where she placed many of her devices, books, and notes.

So the three of them went to the third-floor hallway, which is extremely similar to the second floor’s layout. Because the living room has eastern and western windows, the hallway outside the east side room doors wasn’t fully connected north-south, making it a short hallway.

The entrance to Room One is side-facing the stairs, and between the doors of Rooms One and Two is the [Soul Graveyard]. The hallway extends north from Room Two’s entrance, leading upward to the attic, so Shard decided to fix the additional space on the wall opposite Room Two’s door on the third floor.

Next, Grace and Helen operated; the red orb was pressed against the wall, and holding hands, the two used their fingers to draw the general shape of a doorframe on the wall, then recited a spell Shard hadn’t heard before. Overall, the process wasn’t complicated, and soon a door appeared on the wall, identical in form to other doors in Shard’s house.

"Sir, we’ve set this space to a hidden state; to make the door appear, you need to knock five times rhythmically at the door’s location."

With that, the sisters stepped back and watched with Shard as the door vanished, and the wall resurfaced. Following this, Helen extended her finger to knock—tap~ tap~ tap-tap-tap~.

The door reappeared, and Helen smiled, signaling Shard to open it. So Shard placed Mia on his shoulder, ceremoniously wiping his hand with a handkerchief, and then twisted the doorknob.

Behind this wall should have been Saint Delan Square; if a door were just installed on the wall, stepping out would result in falling from the third floor. But when he opened the door now, he saw sunlight streaming through the window onto the wooden floor; the empty room contained no furniture, but the pristine walls and tidy floor made a good impression on him:

"Window?"

He curiously asked the two sisters, and Grace explained:

"It’s just that you can see outside from the inside; there’s no window out there."

They walked in together, and Mia was placed on the floor by Shard. This cat especially loved to run around wildly in the house.

The new room had no load-bearing or decorative walls. It wasn’t divided into functional areas; it was a spacious rectangular area. Its size was approximately the same as Room 1 or 2 with all walls removed.

The wall facing east had windows, with a view of the square outside but no curtains. The snow in Tobesk had stopped; it was four in the afternoon. This season’s sunshine was plentiful at four, making the room bright.

"Really nice, really nice."

The empty big room didn’t have much to explore or observe, but Shard still stroked the walls, touched the floor, checked the windows, and even jumped up to touch the ceiling.

Grace and Helen watched Shard’s excited demeanor and didn’t forget to explain to him:

"This space is almost indestructible; it can serve as a safe room for this house. The red Treasure Bead set in the outer wall theoretically could be moved, but it’s best not to. If you really want to move this space, be sure to let us do it."

Grace casually pointed at the southern wall, and red light from her fingertip struck it. After the deafening sound ended, web-like cracks appeared on the wall, but it didn’t break:

"Without opening the door, no sound here will transmit outside. Additionally, the space has strong resistance; it will automatically repair unless facing extremely exaggerated attacks."

"So potion or alchemical accidents won’t damage the house?"

Shard asked excitedly, and Helen nodded at him:

"Even Arcane Technique practice is fine. However, it’s best not to practice high-offensive Arcane Techniques."

This space thus became fully integrated into the house, even considered directly as part of "No. 6, Saint Delan Square" because Shard tried throwing Crystal Shoes and confirmed he could indeed appear in this room.

Since the Spatial Labyrinth from the Ancient God of Space already existed in this house, no additional "door" was created this time. But the addition of an entire room clearly made Shard happier.

As for moving the Alchemical and Potion Workshops here from the basement, he could do that over time. He also needed to buy furniture, curtains, and various miscellaneous things since the room was empty.

Of course, this room couldn’t connect to the home’s gas pipeline, as punching through the corridor walls would lead directly outside. But Shard could buy large gas tanks, as he wouldn’t cook here, only light the gas lamps occasionally.

[All you need to do is inform the Witch or the Princess about the purchases, and they will do it for you, saving time.]

"She" reminded Shard in his ear.

"But that would make me feel like I’m living off them."

[You could have them help and then pay them later.]

"Hmm..."

Shard imagined that awkward scenario and felt it might be better to let them help.

Having handled this matter, Shard returned to the second floor with Grace and Helen when it was just past four ten. There was still some time before dinner, as the Red Butterfly Maidens watched Shard, until Helen pointed to a bedroom:

"Sir, is your bedroom large? We’ve visited but never went inside."

"It’s not very large, but I like it."

Saying this, he led them inside, leaving Mia behind and closing the door.

Red light seeped through the bottom gap of the door, and the cat lowered its head to look but was too small to squeeze through.

Red Butterfly danced inside the ancient No. 6, Saint Delan Square. In the hands of the Outlander, this house, known for many strange events and oddities, gained another peculiar occurrence.

After all, a Humanoid Relic really couldn’t be considered human.
