Stronger from Earth
Chapter 348 - 347: On the Dao
Wang Xuan raised his eyebrows, remaining unperturbed by Universal Relief Bodhisattva’s words, his mind was resolute, never considering what he had done as something to regret.
Self-reflection is necessary, but constantly feeling uneasy about past mistakes eventually saps the spirit, leading one toward gradual withdrawal.
"What does the senior think is amiss with me?" Wang Xuan asked.
Puji replied, "You have indulged in excessive killing. Each Life Essence Immortal Peach from the Immortal Dome Pavilion represents a living being. It’s imaginable that lives lost by your hand number in the millions or tens of millions."
The Buddhist Sect values compassion and minimizing killing. They participate in realm wars primarily to protect the beings of the Mother Star, fighting against invading alien races.
However, for ordinary Otherworld natives, especially lower-tier beings, they advise against needless slaughter.
"Is that so?" Of course, Wang Xuan knew how many alien races had died by his hand, understanding that he possessed billions of Life Essence Immortal Peaches.
"The Ten Thousand Beasts Realm has been defeated, and in a few years, that world will vanish without a trace, as the Mother Star will not spend excessive effort arranging new planets for the indigenous population.
Their ending can only be death—today or several years later, at my hands or by the Mother Star’s essence, it makes no difference.
Moreover, our realm harbors a blood feud with them, with no possibility of reconciliation, only the complete disappearance of one party can conclude it.
Keeping them is ultimately a disaster in waiting. The Mother Star does not have excess strength to consider them; grabbing every resource to grow stronger is the right course of action.
My slaughter might seem unfair to them, but who cares?
If one day the Mother Star falls, billions are slaughtered, who would care then?"
His words carried some truth; from the Mother Star’s perspective, he’s correct. No one will condemn him as long as he doesn’t harm its interests.
Furthermore, the emergence of Life Essence Immortal Peaches benefits billions of cultivators, enhancing their strength, contributing significantly to future realm wars—a great merit indeed.
"In such circumstances on the Mother Star, what you’ve done makes sense, but the killings will breed resentment, forming karmic force. I fear your day will come being consumed by the Heart Demon, becoming a Great Demon of slaughter," Puji said.
Wang Xuan shook his head, "The senior worries unnecessarily, not to mention if I am consumed, it merely proves I’m not strong enough."
What he didn’t say was, he doesn’t want to debate the correctness of his slaughter. When the beings of the Ten Thousand Beasts Realm cease to exist one day, who can stand before him and discuss right or wrong?
Furthermore, war itself is the greatest mistake.
Without war, none of this would happen, but if the Mother Star doesn’t fight, it will be obliterated by other worlds.
Peaceful coexistence might be possible, but who can guarantee the future won’t see them strike first? The Laws of the Dark Forest are bloody.
Survival is civilization’s foremost need, yet the Mother Star can’t even fulfill this, hovering daily on the brink of annihilation.
Even Earth struggles for survival, striving to grow amid strength and weakness, and if you don’t grasp all forces now to grow stronger, extinguishing enemy living forces, will you regret it later?
"I am only advising you not to lose your true self in the midst of war," Puji said.
From such dialogue, Wang Xuan revealed his staunch pro-war stance: facing alien races, his heart is unwavering, showing no mercy when necessary.
When he feels slaughter is unnecessary, or can be spared, he might relent. But when he believes his slaughter greatly benefits the Mother Star, he won’t hesitate even if his hands are stained with blood.
Having experienced so much, confronting relentless attacks from alien races, Wang Xuan has clearly seen their cold faces.
Since no room for reconciliation exists, only slaughter and death until the end, why should he nurture a disaster in waiting, hoping enemies let go of hatred?
As for Puji, or the Buddhist Sect, they believe in killing only when no other option exists.
Furious Vajra doesn’t become angry easily.
They emphasize good and evil, right and wrong, hence show compassion for the alien civilians not involved in war.
Thus, Puji disagrees with Wang Xuan killing billions and gathering numerous Life Essence Immortal Peaches, viewing it as creating a massacre.
"I know I’ve erred, but I have neither the time nor energy to consider them, for if the Mother Star loses in the realm war with Ten Thousand Beasts Realm, our fate would be no better than theirs now." Wang Xuan said.
He acknowledges creating a massacre and shedding much blood, but once ceasing such resource gathering, within sixty years, the Mother Star’s demise is inevitable.
Consider the Celestial Demon Realm as a subordinate world of Ten Thousand Beasts Realm, utterly destroyed by a Venerable’s strike, showing no mercy even with hundreds of billions of intelligent life forms.
If Wang Xuan hadn’t been peeping into the future, stationed in the Celestial Demon Realm’s millions of Mother Star beings would have all died. Moreover, the Ten Thousand Beasts Realm has also stained Mother Star beings’ blood during war, making them not innocent victims.
"Take care of yourself, here are four words: Never forget your original intent."
Puji pointed to a distant pond, streams flowing continuously into it, replacing the original water in the pond, while the water exits through a lower outlet.
Living water continuously replacing old water, the pond’s lotus leaves grow verdant under the nourishment of the living water.
Wang Xuan understood Universal Relief Bodhisattva’s meaning, indicating a person’s thoughts continually change, daily receiving new information, representing the lotus leaves’ wisdom, will, and ideas, nourishing and growing them.
This replacement of old water by living water ensures that each day, one is not yesterday’s self.
If one doesn’t control the living water’s inlet, who knows what kind of lotus flowers will bloom in the future?
"The tragedy of mortals lies in their inability to control their thoughts, changing with the pond water, daily cutting away the old self in forgetting, forming a new self in a new day.
Eventually, they change so much they don’t recognize themselves, yet have no choice but to accept it. Perhaps they are willing to admit they are still themselves, but they are no longer the person they were."
Life in this world is inherently like pond water, dynamically changing.
Wang Xuan smiled while plucking a flower, "I can eliminate the living water entering my spirit pool, becoming who I wish to be.
But with such circumstances in the world, not changing oneself means one cannot survive, resulting in passive changes. Instead, the change is proactive."
He could silently manage Dixuan Star, accumulate incense faith, avoiding warfare, and in several decades surely enter the True Immortal Domain.
Living a life without creating massacres and competing with the world, he can achieve this.
Yet, he is unwilling to do so.
Puji calls his solitary selfishness standing in the Mother Star’s perspective, all for its interests, disregarding innocent alien lives.
Indeed, it is so.
But viewed from another angle, he is also very noble, fighting for the Mother Star, protecting billions of beings in war.
In the Otherworld, he created immeasurable slaughter, yet on the Mother Star, his merit is immeasurable, the golden light of merit on him substantial, easily forming a Merit Halo.
He is, therefore, so contradictory, both selfish and selfless.
Though Wang Xuan and Puji are merely debating the Dao, the hidden sword and saber flashes are unimaginable to ordinary people, the dispute is such, yet no right or wrong was determined.
"This era needs people like you." Puji sighed.
"No longer arguing, each of us has our own strongholds, not enemies, thus no need for endless disputes." Puji gazed at Wang Xuan. "No one comes to the Precious Light Temple without reason, why have you come?"
Wang Xuan turned his palm, revealing a Life Essence Immortal Peach. The peach’s reddish-white hue emitted an enticing fragrance, making one eager to devour it.
As consuming this item does indeed benefit evolution greatly.
"I am here to make a deal with the Precious Light Temple. Everyone knows the Life Essence Immortal Peach is precious, greatly beneficial for cultivation, and perhaps your temple’s Buddhist cultivators also need it."
Puji furrowed his brows. The peach appeared reddish-white, yet in his eyes, it was blood-soaked. He asked, "What do you wish to exchange for?"
Wang Xuan solemnly replied, "Power of Faith!"
