Chapter 29: A Hero’s Name

’.....Do I even have words left to say at this point...’ Loraine thought, absolutely dumbfounded by the Item’s description. It wasn’t just good, it was ridiculously busted! And more conveniently, it was exactly what she needed.

"Yeah...I’m definitely taking this with me." Loraine said to herself, an excited grin forming on her lips as she glanced at the ring on her finger, absolutely mesmerized by it. She closed her eyes as she begun to focus, using the same principle as activating skills, Loraine visioned herself reaching into the item’s pocket dimension and pulling the pouch of gold she had lost originally.

The pouch manifested in her hand, landing with a soft jingle of coins as the weight of the money on her hands snapped her back to reality, happy to see it had worked.

’I’m getting better at this.’ She thought with a grin, Loraine then proceeded to place the pouch back into the [Ring Of Storage], its form vanishing as it returned to the pocket dimension.

With her newly mastered skill of item management, Loraine turned around and walked up to Jacob, kneeling down once more as she grabbed the boy’s hand. Three pouches of copper and silver appeared inside Jacob’s hand, startling the kid as he looked up Loraine with confused eyes.

"Wait, you’re giving this to me?" Jacob asked, confused. She simply met his question with a nod of her head, understanding his reasoning.

"Well, this was YOUR money that you stole, so you should go ahead and keep it. I honestly shouldn’t even be doing this, but considering your rough circumstances, I’ll let you hold onto this for now. But-!" Loraine said, grabbing Jacob’s hand as she squeezed a bit tighter.

"No more stealing....okay?" She asked, the kind light in her eyes vanishing as she stared at him with the eyes of someone that would wreck him if he dared go against her.

Jacob nodded, a bit terrified as he felt like he was staring into the eyes of a demon with how red Loraine’s irises were. "Y-yes miss...." Jacob said, looking downcast as he glanced at the floor, feeling flustered, ashamed, and joyful all at once.

"Besides, it’s not like we can’t go around giving people their money back, that would get you in trouble, and heck, that would get ME in trouble for association." She said, her tone dropping to a conspiratorial whisper as she placed a finger on her lips, her voice dropping to a hush tone.

"So with that in mind, let’s keep this a secret, okay? Go buy treat yourself tonight." Loraine said with a wink, though her heart clenched with how wrong this all was. "Also, don’t wear this robe anymore, it doesn’t suit you." She said, pointing at the gang symbol on the coat that would get him in immediate danger.

’I can live with this, not everything has to be an act of heroism.’ She said, rising to her feet as she was about to leave.

"Thank you..." Jacob said, his eyes landing on the pouches of money in his hands, he had taken from multiple in the past, though he could never keep most of the money as Jack would take it from him as ’Tax’ for having taken him in when he had nowhere else to go.

"Don’t mention it," Loraine said with a smile.

’Seriously, don’t. It could get us killed.’ She voiced inwardly with a sarcastic tone.

"Now then, for these stat points..."

Loraine glanced at her stats, it was still a miracle that she barely managed to win that fight, it was obvious but these stats were not going to cut it.

’From what I’ve learned from that fight, magic is definitely my strong suit. So this is definitely the way to go about things.’ She thought, pondering for a moment on how many points she should invest into her Intelligence stat.

’Let’s go with 10 for now.’

Loraine deposited 10 Stat Points into her Intelligence stat, her mind reeling as a strange sensation akin to electricity flowed through her mind, her heart pumping as she could feel her veins expanding to allow for more blood and magic production, her MP reserve improving greately.

[MP: 300/300]

’So 1 point equals 20 MP...not bad, its half of what health does, but its still pretty good.’ She thought, smiling.

She then proceeded to deposit more and more of her points into areas of her physiquality that she thought she might need, focusing on a more agile, but fit battle-mage build. Nothing too fragile, but nothing too power heavy either.

"That should do it, I guess this is what my build will be like from now on."

7 points were distributed evenly among her Strength, Vitality, and Agility, with the remaining 5 points after the 10, going into her Intelligence Stat as she wanted her magic to be the strongest thing in her kit.

And it basically was.

"I feel so much more different now..." Loraine muttered to herself, feeling the power after her level-up coursing through her veins like a raging fire. She was becoming stronger, and she wasn’t going to stop now.

She turned her attention back to Jacob, who was busy counting coins in his palms, muttering under his breath and already calculating his savings. Loraine smiled at the sight, but as much as she wanted to help Jacob some more, it was time for her to leave and get going.

"Alright Jacob, I’ll be leaving now. Take care alright?" She said, gently waving at him as she turned to leave.

"W-wait! You still have yet to tell me your name!" Jacob cried out after her, his shout catching Loraine’s ears as she stopped in her tracks and turned around to face him, a surprised look adorning her features.

’My name...?’ She pondered with an amused chuckle, about to give her name to the young boy who viewed her as his hero, when a sudden shift in the air caught her attention.

Footsteps, multiple were headed into their direction, accompanied by harsh voices and the sounds of weapons being brandished, Loraine’s danger senses immediately flaring as she took a step back, the intruders showing themselves as a large group of bandits, thieves, and other criminals made their way into the alley, their large number an overwhelming threat.

’Shit...great...more assholes to keep me at bay.’
