Stuck in a Mafia Romance
Chapter 170: Highschool Crush
No One’s Pov
A little girl sat under the bright sunlight in the school courtyard, her skin glowing beautifully as the warm rays hit her.
Vivien looked down at her notebook, focusing intently on the detailed sketches she had made of a boy from the senior class. Her eyes crinkled with a genuine smile just looking at the drawn lines of his face.
"Hey, what are you doing?" a young blonde boy suddenly asked, walking up to her bench.
Vivien hurriedly snapped the notebook shut, a nervous smile breaking across her face. "It’s... nothing!" she stammered, trying to look casual. "Just finishing up some of my homework."
Enzo smiled warmly at her, completely unsuspecting. "Here, I bought you the chocolate milk that you like so much," he said, handing her a cold can.
"Thank you," she smiled sweetly, taking the milk from him. Enzo felt his ears flush a bright pink at her gratitude, his heart pounding as they walked out toward the main courtyard together.
Further away, across the busy courtyard, a quiet gaze lingered on the two of them. A handsome, perfectly dressed young man watched them for a silent moment before turning on his shoe to walk back to his own high school building.
Later that afternoon, Enzo found Vivien near her locker. "Hey Vivien, do you want to go to the circus after class together? I saved up and bought two tickets!"
Vivien looked up at the wall clock, her eyes widening slightly as she checked the time. "Um, sorry Enzo. You should go with someone else. I have to go meet a professor right after class for some extra credit work."
"Oh... okay," Enzo said, his face dropping with a deeply dejected expression.
Before he could push any further, a group of other girls from their grade walked up to Enzo, giggling as they grabbed his arm and pulled him away to chat.
Vivien waved at them with a sigh of relief. As soon as they turned the corner, the school clock clicked loudly, signaling the final bell of the day.
Her heart leaped. She hurriedly packed her bag and rushed toward the main exit. It was the exact time for the seniors to finish their exams and come out of the building, which meant... he would come out too. She waited at the exact same spot every single day, hiding behind the pillars, just to catch a single glimpse of her first love.
As she stood behind the stone pillar, holding her breath, she finally saw him! Even from a distance, his cold, striking face was completely eye-catching. Not a single emotion was visible on his sharp features, yet just looking at him made Vivien’s heart jump wildly inside her chest.
Suddenly, a harsh shove disrupted her daydream. A wealthy girl from the senior class had bumped right into her, spilling her iced coffee on the floor. The girl stopped and looked Vivien up and down with utter disgust.
"This is the elite section, what are you poor dunks doing here?" she said meanly, crossing her arms.
Vivien didn’t even blink. She dusted off her uniform, looked the girl dead in the eye, and let out a dry chuckle. "The elite section? Funny, I thought this was a school, not your family garage. And if you’re so rich, maybe you should invest in some glasses so you can see where you’re walking next time."
The mean girl’s mouth dropped open in shock, her face turning bright red as she struggled to find any words to fire back. Vivien completely ignored her stunned silence and quickly turned back around to look for the senior boy.
But it was too late. He was gone.
Vivien sighed, her shoulders slumping in deep disappointment. She turned around to leave the courtyard, walking back toward the empty hallways with a heavy heart.
Meanwhile, back in the empty classroom, Enzo had returned to grab a jacket he left behind. He saw that everyone else had already gone home for the day. But just as he was about to turn around and leave, he noticed a familiar notebook sitting on the edge of Vivien’s desk.
"Uh, seems like she forgot it here," Enzo muttered to himself, stepping closer.
As he reached out his hand to pick it up, a sudden gust of wind blew through the open window, flipping the pages of the notebook open.
Enzo froze. His eyes locked onto the detailed sketches inside. At first, a soft smile touched his lips, thinking they were just cute, random drawings. But as the pages kept flipping, his smile vanished completely.
The pages were covered in beautifully drawn sketches of a specific guy.
Enzo knew this guy instantly. He was the most famous senior in the entire elite circle, the one every single girl in the school gossiped about.
Enzo’s eyes started to burn with a terrifying rage as an intense wave of jealousy choked him. He had truly believed Vivien was different from the other girls. He thought she was pure, innocent, and completely above chasing after elite guys.
His grip tightened around the edges of her notebook, crumpling the paper as his mind twisted with anger. She hadn’t rejected him because she was busy with a professor- she had lied to his face just to go drool over another man.
Soon enough, Vivien realized that her precious notebook was missing. A wave of panic hit her as she remembered leaving it on her desk, and she ran back to the classroom as fast as her legs could carry her.
When she slid through the open door, she stopped dead in her tracks. Enzo was standing completely still by her desk, silently holding her book in his hands. Her heart dropped into her stomach. She rushed over, hurriedly snatched the notebook right out of his grip, and hugged it tightly against her chest, closing it instantly. She bit her lower lip, wishing that he hadn’t seen the secret sketches hidden inside.
Enzo didn’t look angry. Instead, he just gave her a very slow cold smile that didn’t reach his eyes at all. He adjusted his backpack on his shoulder and walked past her toward the doorway.
Before stepping out, he paused and looked back over his shoulder. "I returned to the classroom to walk you back home. Let’s go," he said flatly.
Vivien felt a sudden, strange shudder run down her spine. The air around him felt incredibly heavy and tense. But she quickly shook the bad feeling off, assuming she was just being paranoid. She thought to herself that since he was acting so calm, it must mean he hadn’t seen what was drawn inside the book. Relief washed over her, and she quickly followed him out of the school building.
The following week went by in a blur.
On a crisp early morning, the sun was just beginning to rise over the neighborhood. Enzo was already standing right in front of the gates of Vivien’s house. He was dressed neatly in his school uniform, holding a beautiful red rose and a small gift box in his hands.
A few minutes later, the front door opened and Vivien came walking out in her school uniform, adjusting her backpack. The moment she spotted him standing there so early, she stopped and looked at him with a deeply confused expression.
"Enzo? What are you doing here so early?" she asked.
Enzo stepped forward, his face turning slightly pink and his ears reddening as he tried to confess his deep feelings for her. He stumbled over his words, nervously holding out the red rose toward her, poured his heart out, and asked her to be his girlfriend.
Vivien gently raised her hands and stopped him before he could finish his speech. She didn’t want to break his heart, so she tried her best to reject him as nicely and softly as possible.
"I am really sorry, Enzo, but you know I am just not looking for those kinds of things right now,"
she said softly, looking at him with apologetic eyes. "I really value our relationship, but I only see you as my good, best friend. Nothing more."
Before he could even respond or say another word, Vivien glanced down at her watch and gasped. She was already running incredibly late for her morning exams.
"Oh no, I have to go! I’ll see you at school!" she shouted over her shoulder. With that, she turned around and ran off down the street toward the transit station, leaving Enzo standing entirely alone in the morning fog.
As Vivien ran down the crowded school hallway, her heart was pounding because she was so late. Turning a corner, she suddenly bumped hard into someone. She lost her balance and was just about to fall onto the cold floor when a long, slender hand caught her by the waist, firmly holding her from falling.
Their eyes met, and Vivien’s eyes widened in absolute shock. Her breath caught in her throat.
It was him. The cold, handsome senior from the elite circle!!
She hurriedly stood up straight, her face instantly flushing bright red as she began to apologize frantically. "I-I’m so sorry! I wasn’t looking where I was going!"
The senior didn’t say a word. He just looked her up and down with his dark siren eyes, checking to see if she had any injuries from the crash.
Once he saw she was fine, he gave a small nod. But just as he opened his mouth to say something to her, his gaze caught a dark figure standing further down the hallway behind her.
His expression turned completely cold, and without another word, he turned around and walked away into the crowd.
It was Enzo. He had followed her all the way to school. Standing in the shadows, Enzo had seen the entire interaction. A burning rage exploded in his chest. He marched over to a nearby dustbin and violently crushed the beautiful red rose and the gift box in his hands, throwing them into the trash.
He was breathing loudly, his shoulders shaking with madness. He had originally followed her to catch up, corner her, and demand a better answer for her rejection, but seeing this scene changed everything.
A sickening thought popped into his head. If I take this elite threat away from her... will she finally give me a chance? With that thought, a dark creepy smirk came to his face.
Soon enough, he put his evil plan into motion. Over the next few weeks, Enzo secretly created terrible rumors, fake scandals, and vicious lies about Vivien’s character at school. The bullying became so intense and unbearable that Vivien was eventually forced to transfer out to a completely different school just to escape the nightmare.
And like a shadow, Enzo secretly followed right behind her, transferring to the same area to keep tabs on his prize.
Years passed, and finally, high school graduation day arrived.
Enzo stood outside the grand graduation hall, holding a fresh massive bouquet of flowers. He had convinced himself that since he had "saved" her from her past and stuck by her side, she would finally accept him. He was fully prepared to propose to her once again in front of everyone.
Suddenly, the grand doors opened, and Vivien came walking out, laughing with her classmates. She looked breath-takingly beautiful. For graduation day, her best friend had convinced her to try something bold- she had dyed her long hair into a stunning, deep wine-red color and taken away her thick nerdy glasses. Without her glasses and with her bright red hair shining under the sun, she looked absurdly gorgeous.
Enzo’s heart swelled with obsession as he stepped forward, kneeling down to hand her the bouquet in front of the entire crowd of students and parents.
Yet, once again... his twisted dreams were utterly shattered.
Right there, in front of everyone, Vivien looked at him with cold eyes and rejected him completely. She didn’t want his flowers, and she didn’t want his love.
The public humiliation echoed through the courtyard, leaving Enzo kneeling in the dirt, his mind completely snapping as his love turned into pure hatred.
