Chapter 1002 - 1001: Signal
Not far ahead was the restaurant known for its uniquely flavored fish. After the two sat down, the waiter warmly served them drinks and, after inquiring in detail about their usual taste preferences, soon brought them their signature dish.
The taste of this dish was superb. The fish had few bones and tender meat, was deliciously fresh, and had been marinated in a bitter sauce before being baked in the oven. The skin was grilled to a crisp, releasing an irresistible aroma, and was then simmered slowly in a special, indescribable broth.
As soon as the dish was served, it emitted a fragrance that made one want to feast. Yanran and Ba Lv had never tasted such delicious food before, and they were immensely satisfied with their meal.
The waiter in the restaurant felt great pleasure seeing their genuine appreciation, recognizing that these two young, attractive ladies genuinely praised their cuisine from the heart.
Therefore, he offered them a 20% discount on their bill and promised that upon their next visit, they would prepare an even more delicious fish dish for them.
This particular flavor of fish was not yet available to the public, and at that time, he hoped they would be the first guests to try it and come to like this flavor even more.
Yanran and Ba Lv nodded and smiled. As Ba Lv reached into her pocket to retrieve her card to pay the bill, she started frantically searching all over her body, which immediately signaled trouble.
Indeed, Ba Lv, covered in cold sweat, raised her head and told her that the card was missing. Although the card had a password, who could say if someone might be able to crack it!
The amount on that card was so significant that even Yanran and Ba Lv, who typically didn't care much about money, turned pale with concern.
What's more, their teacher had mentioned that during their travels, they might spend considerable time searching for coordinates, thus they would need to prepare more fuel and supplies for their journey.
And these fuel and supplies required a large sum of money.
Therefore, the card was extremely important to them, and they must retrieve it.
Fortunately, Yanran still had some money on her, and although the meal wasn't cheap, it was enough to cover the cost.
The two hurried out of the restaurant, found a secluded spot, and began to calmly assess whether the card had been lost or stolen.
Upon analysis, they concluded that the card had indeed been stolen.
The prime suspect, according to them, was the person who almost bumped into them. They discussed and reviewed everything from that afternoon till the present, piecing together the events.
As they started their stroll, while some attention was drawn to them because of their looks, it wasn't alarming.
Yet when they went to the jewelry store to purchase rings, something changed.
They hadn't noticed the store clerk's eyes, which brimmed with intense greed, a fact they hadn't given much thought to.
From then on, more and more eyes seemed to be observing them continuously as they walked down the street.
But surprisingly, they remained unguarded during this entire time.
When they set off to eat fish, the person who nearly collided with them took her card.
At this moment, Yanran's excellent memory came into play.
After a brief contemplation, she immediately recalled the thief's features: pale complexion, short hair, slightly squinted eyes, not very tall, and a peculiar scent on his body. ππ£πππ°πππ§πΌπππ.π°π¨π¦
Ba Lv was astounded as Yanran slowly pieced together the thief's appearance.
Yanran further deduced that with only half an hour passing, given they met the thief in a relatively secluded location, they should find some clues if they went there now.
The two sprang into action immediately and, luckily, the place wasn't far, so they arrived quickly.
Yanran whispered to Ba Lv not to let anyone touch her, and certainly not to bump into her. Once Ba Lv nodded earnestly in agreement, Yanran closed her eyes and sank into meditation.
At this moment, she blocked out all external distractions, neither seeing nor hearing anything else.
All her senses were tuned to the peculiar scent still lingering in the air.
Following this unique fragrance, Yanran moved forward, while Ba Lv walked beside her, gently guiding and more so shielding her from other pedestrians.
As the thief strayed further from the crowd, the scent he left in the air became stronger. After walking for over ten minutes, they arrived at the back entrance of a seemingly upscale hotel, and Yanran stopped.
Ba Lv carefully observed Zhou Tian, asking Yanran, "Did Lun go in here?"
Yanran opened her eyes, nodded her head, her expression calm and her voice firm, "This is the place, without a doubt!"
"And because so few come and go from here, I can pinpoint his location directly."
Yanran told Ba Lv, "Follow me!" She added with a sneer, "If we don't retrieve the card this time, I'll turn Erma Planet upside down!"
The hotel had few people, making it easier for Yanran to track him.
They were puzzled why Lun, after entering the hotel through the back door, climbed the stairwell to the 17th floor instead of using the elevator.
Ba Lv cursed the damned thief in a low voice, frustrated by the waste of their time and the need to climb the stairs. Though it wasn't burdensome for them, it was hardly as convenient as taking the elevator.
Yanran and Ba Lv entered through the hotel's back door, following the scent Lun left behind, they climbed safely to the 17th floor.
Reaching the 17th floor, Yanran found that the scent led into a room.
She signaled with her eyes to Ba Lv. They quietly approached the room's door, standing on either side before Yanran gently pushed the door, which didn't budge.
Being hot-tempered, and since Lun had stolen the card from her, Ba Lv, seeing Yanran fail to open the door, kicked it hard.
With a loud noise, the door cracked open, and Yanran and Ba Lv dashed inside.
There they found Lun in the room, but unfortunately, the thief was now dead.
Ba Lv searched his entire body but was disappointed to find that the card was not on him.
Seeing Ba Lv's expression, Yanran knew they hadn't found the card.
In such a circumstance, Yanran and Ba Lv would clearly not give up. Ba Lv approached and briefly examined the thief's body. As an experienced assassin, she had ample knowledge of how to kill or how someone could be killed.
It was simple. The thief had been stabbed in the heart and died instantly.
