Super Soldier in the City
Chapter 2364 - 2428: Dragon Transformation?
Last time it was this guy that injured it, and this time the other party came to hurt it again. You could imagine how furious this electric eel was. It whipped its body around and shot straight at Li Yifei, its speed even faster than before. With just one twist of its body, it darted five or six meters.
Li Yifei stayed perfectly calm and slashed backhand with his blade. He was in peak condition now—if he was still scared of this thing, how was he supposed to keep a reputation in the martial world once word got out? The strike didn’t miss, but it clearly didn’t have much effect either. Li Yifei had the feeling that this thing’s skin wasn’t skin at all but steel. When the blade aura chopped into it there was even the sound of gold and iron clashing. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
Li Yifei didn’t dare linger. He twisted his body and bolted, because the electric eel was already about to crash into him. It had even started discharging; a sizzling sound seemed to echo by his ears. Li Yifei only felt his body go numb, but luckily he was already driving his strength to sprint away, so he only took one jolt.
The eel had been hurt twice now and its temperament completely snapped. Its mouth gaped, electricity crackling as it furiously chased after Li Yifei.
One man and one fish tore wildly through the water. Li Yifei had already seen the big net, and Xu Shanshan was right at the opening of the net waiting for him. Seeing that Li Yifei was about to be caught, she instantly slashed out several times, Sword energy crisscrossing toward the direction Li Yifei was swimming from.
Seeing Xu Shanshan make her move, Li Yifei hurriedly sank down to avoid those streaks of Sword energy, while the electric eel behind him didn’t dodge at all and was squarely hit by the interwoven Sword energy. Several muffled pops sounded from its body, slowing its momentum.
Last time it had failed to catch that hateful person because of this inexplicable stuff, and now it had been chopped by this stuff again—if the electric eel could endure that, it would be a miracle. It twisted its body once and charged up again.
Xu Shanshan didn’t panic. Her hand flicked again and again, Sword energy whooshing out. The two of them had been through several incidents together—whether at Mount Kunlun, in the South American rainforest, in the Vietnam Formation Method, or on the Island of All Beings. You could say they were well-traveled and had seen all kinds of strange and bizarre creatures. As for an electric eel that was just a bit bigger in size... she really didn’t take it seriously. When Li Yifei had been luring it, Xu Shanshan had also been observing and knew this eel’s hide was thick and flesh tough. Even with the top-tier weapons in their hands they couldn’t seriously injure it. So when Li Yifei swam up to her, Xu Shanshan immediately turned around as well. Since they had already tested and found it useless, there was no need to clash head-on—after all, there was still the big net waiting for this thing.
Li Yifei grabbed Xu Shanshan and leaped out of the water, jumping back onto the boat, while the people on the boat began hauling in the net. The two boats coordinated to close the mouth of the net, the engines on deck roaring as they dragged the big net tighter and tighter. Li Yifei gripped the Mohist War Blade and had just opened his mouth to speak when something suddenly broke through the surface of the water—it was exactly that electric eel that had been chasing him. The thing leapt into the air still discharging electricity.
"Ah!" Everyone on the boat cried out and backed away, because that massive electric eel was baring a mouthful of sharp teeth, lunging to bite down on Li Yifei.
In the water, because of its electricity, this thing had made it hard for Li Yifei to get a clean shot at it, but on land, if he was still afraid of it, then he really was being a coward. So when he saw this thing actually dare to pounce onto the boat to bite people, anger flared in his chest as well. He swung his blade, a strike wrapped in an incomparably sharp blade aura chopping down.
"Clang!" This time Li Yifei clearly heard the collision. The skin of this thing was actually that tough—blades and swords couldn’t hurt it. Even the Mohist War Blade couldn’t manage it. Beside him, Xu Shanshan was ordering the crew to retreat while slashing at it with her sword as well.
"Whoom!" The electric eel crashed onto the deck, letting out a strange sound from its mouth as its body began to discharge. There was water on the deck and Li Yifei’s clothes were soaked too, so he was hit immediately. Fortunately, he had been prepared, so the shock didn’t feel too strong.
Xu Shanshan was a bit unlucky. She had just raised her sword and chopped down on the creature when the eel released a fierce burst of electricity, shocking a scream out of her and forcing her to back away quickly.
Fuck this, like hell I’m buying it! Seeing his beloved girl get shocked, Li Yifei’s chest flooded with rage as well. He raised his sword to cut, but halfway through the motion, Li Yifei noticed a shocking change. The electric eel that had leapt out of the water was twisting, and its body began to transform. Its abdomen started splitting open, and something that actually looked like a claw quickly emerged.
Li Yifei focused his gaze, utterly aghast. It wasn’t like he’d never seen four-legged aquatic animals before—Huaxia had giant salamanders, also called baby fish, that lived in the water with four legs. But this weird fish that looked like an electric eel was actually starting to sprout legs too? What the hell was going on!
Thinking of this, Li Yifei’s hand froze. He watched as the eel’s abdomen kept tearing open and a leg stretched out. It was still small, but you could see with the naked eye that this thing’s leg was continuously growing, and it quickly grew to a size proportionate to its body.
"Th-this..." The crew on the boat had also seen this scene. After a moment of dazed silence, they all shouted, "Is this a dragon?"
"A dragon?" Xu Shanshan was stunned when she heard the crew, then immediately rushed back, just in time to see this eel-like thing already growing a second leg.
Li Yifei snapped to, and regardless of what this thing actually was, a change like this was shocking enough.
Li Yifei had seen a monster monkey, a giant boar, that impossibly long white snake, and all sorts of bizarre creatures on the Island of All Beings. Those creatures had already defied what he thought he knew. But... watching a big fish continually sprout legs in front of his eyes, Li Yifei still felt overwhelmingly shocked!
"Brother-in-law... quick, restrain this thing. No matter what it is, it’s never wrong to control it first!" Xu Shanshan shivered, snapped back to herself, and hurriedly reminded him.
Li Yifei also reacted, nodding repeatedly. "Quick, give me the net, and some rope. We’ll tie it up first!" Li Yifei shouted.
Luckily, the crew behind him were all from the Hu Family. Although they were shocked, before they came out today Hu Yu’er had specifically warned them that what happened today might go beyond their understanding, told them to be mentally prepared. Of course, in the end it still exceeded their understanding. Not to mention this fish—just the things Li Yifei and Xu Shanshan had done were already enough to shock them. And then seeing this fish... they even had an urge to kneel and worship. People who make a living at sea are the most inclined to believe in gods and spirits, and dragons are creatures of the sea to begin with—once they soar into the sky, they can call the wind and summon the rain. After being shouted at by Li Yifei, these people finally snapped back and hurriedly dragged out a spare net from the cabin.
Li Yifei took the net, preparing to throw it over the fish that was in the midst of transforming. Just as he was about to cast it, he suddenly saw the fish’s eyes. In the eel’s eyes there seemed to be a plea—yes, it was begging him.
Li Yifei hesitated. He didn’t know what this thing really was. The two sides had already become enemies. If he didn’t kill it and it recovered in a moment, would it still come after him to kill him?
"Brother-in-law..." Xu Shanshan called out once, then said, "This fish seems to be begging us!"
"Yeah, I feel it too!" Li Yifei sighed inwardly. He had killed many, but he wasn’t a cruel person. He treated animals the same way he treated people—if the other side didn’t harm him, he wouldn’t harm them. Strictly speaking, it was this fish that shocked him with electricity first, and that was how they became enemies. So thinking of this, Li Yifei loosened his grip and said, "Forget it, let’s see what this thing wants to do first. If it doesn’t harm me, I won’t make things hard for it. Our real target is still that thing on the seabed anyway!"
"Mm, we’ll just be more careful!" Xu Shanshan nodded.
While they were talking, the over-three-meter-long electric eel on the deck had already grown three legs. The split in its belly was a bloody mess, but the blood carried a golden tint. Li Yifei very keenly noticed this. A thought flashed through his mind and he had Xu Shanshan bring her phone over to record this scene.
Xu Shanshan did as he said. Li Yifei could clearly feel that the eel a few meters in front of him let out a sigh of relief, and there was already gratitude in its eyes.
So, what is it trying to do? Li Yifei didn’t dare to relax. He gripped the Mohist War Blade tightly, ready to swing at any moment.
Xu Shanshan backed away a bit to avoid being hurt if the eel suddenly lashed out.
On the boat opposite, Hu Yu’er was also directing people to slowly close in. Seeing that electric eel jump onto the boat, she also became curious.
The whole process actually wasn’t long, just five or six minutes. Four bloody holes had opened up on the eel’s abdomen, and four claws had grown out. Red blood mixed with gold dripped in streams, splattering over the deck. The eel looked to be in great pain, making heavy huffing sounds from its mouth.
"Could this be... the Turning into a dragon they talk about in legends?" a crew member couldn’t help saying. His words reminded the others. Many of them immediately looked at him and said, "Now that you mention it, it really does look a bit like that. When I was a kid I heard my elders say there were dragons around here, real dragons, soaring in the clouds!"
"Yeah, yeah, I heard my grandma say it too. When she was young, doing laundry by the river, she saw one—dozens of meters long, a dragon, swimming in the river, and sometimes even flying up into the sky," another person added.
Li Yifei had been listening to their conversation. If you asked him whether dragons existed in this world, he’d probably shake his head—but that shake of the head didn’t mean he thought they didn’t exist, just that he wasn’t too convinced. In other words, since he hadn’t seen one, he couldn’t deny it either.
However... the eel’s transformation still hadn’t stopped. After its body twisted a few times, the four claws continued to slowly grow. The wound on its head, however, had healed. But not long after the four claws fully emerged, its head also began to change. Its originally huge fish mouth seemed to be slowly retracting, while its head swelled slightly.
But it wasn’t like a balloon swelling—rather, it felt as if bones were growing inside. Watching this scene, Li Yifei felt more and more that... what those people were saying was really quite likely.
He immediately called Murong Yuanqing. Once the call connected, Li Yifei spoke very rapidly and described everything that had happened. Murong Yuanqing gave an involuntary shiver on the other end and, uncharacteristically flustered, said, "You said you saw that electric eel grow four...?"
"Yes, Senior, I don’t know what this thing actually is, so I’m calling to ask you!" Li Yifei said.
