Survival of the Nation: I Can Specify the Items That Will Drop
Chapter 7: Job Change for Military Generals
Over the next day, Lin Feng lived a mechanical life in Black Wind Camp.
He was woken up at dawn to fetch water from the river, carry firewood, and process prey, sleeping at night on a damp straw mat in the corner of the kitchen shed.
The camp was strictly hierarchical: at the bottom were "worthless" newcomers like him, doing the dirtiest and most exhausting work for the smallest portion of food;
In the middle were those with certain skills or combat power, who could live in proper wooden cabins and had better equipment;
At the top was the boss and a few core members, living in that two-story building, controlling the distribution of all resources in the camp.
Lin Feng silently observed everything.
He discovered the camp had two main sources of income: hunting nearby Nightmare World creatures and gathering herbs and minerals.
On the afternoon of the second day, Lin Feng was processing a batch of freshly delivered prey in the kitchen shed.
Most were common wilderness creatures: Rotten Wolves, Thorn-Spine Pigs, and a few six-legged strange birds.
The smell of blood mixed with the stench of rot was nauseating, even in the ventilated shed.
The old man sat on a wooden stump nearby sharpening a knife, occasionally glancing at him: "Hurry up, we’re having a better meal tonight."
Scarface’s team had a good harvest today; they caught a Swamp Crocodile."
Lin Feng nodded, his knife skillfully slicing open a Thorn-Spine Pig’s abdomen. The blade slid through the fur, revealing dark red muscle and pale yellow fat.
Suddenly, among a pile of small prey that had just been delivered, he found a strange rabbit.
It was called a rabbit, but it was twice the size of a normal wild rabbit, with eerie grey-purple fur and bone spikes on the tips of its ears. But what really caught Lin Feng’s attention was that it wasn’t completely dead yet.
The grey-purple rabbit’s chest rose and fell weakly, its hind legs occasionally twitched, and one eye was half-open, reflecting the shadows of the shed’s roof.
"This rabbit..." Lin Feng hesitated.
The old man glanced over: "A Shadow Rabbit. They're fast, with little meat, but the fur can fetch some money. What, it's not dead yet?"
"It seems to still be breathing."
"Then give it a quick death." The old man threw over a small knife. "Stab the eye, don't ruin the fur."
Lin Feng took the knife and crouched down. His hand pressed against the Shadow Rabbit’s cold body, and he could feel a faint heartbeat.
In that instant, a line of translucent text suddenly appeared before his eyes:
【Shadow Rabbit (Dying)】
【Level: Lv1】
【Possible Drops: Rabbit Meat (100%), Shadow Rabbit Skin (100%), Sharp Bone Spikes (100%), Shadow Core (10%), Beginner General Job Change Book (0.001%)】
【Kill provides Experience Points: 1】
Lin Feng’s pupils constricted slightly, and his breathing slowed.
It wasn’t because of the Shadow Rabbit’s dying state, nor was it because of the regular drops.
It was that last line: Beginner General Job Change Book (0.001%).
He had learned in class that class change scrolls were among the most precious items in the Nightmare World. Every Awakened who reached Level 10 could not continue to level up without changing classes.
Class change scrolls were divided into different types: Warrior, Mage, Ranger, Medic... and each profession had its own sub-specializations.
The General was a special branch of the Warrior class, known for leading soldiers and battlefield command. It provided extremely high personal attribute bonuses, but its class change scrolls were incredibly rare, usually only obtainable by conquering large Nightmare Legion strongposts or killing special elite monsters.
A one-in-a-hundred-thousand drop rate... a General Class Change Scroll!
And Lin Feng had the Eye of Probability. With the ability to designate a drop once every thirty days, as long as the original probability wasn't zero, he could get it with a one hundred percent certainty.
The old man’s voice interrupted his thoughts: "What are you dazing off for? Hurry up and finish; there’s still a pile of work to do."
Lin Feng took a deep breath and made a decision.
"Right away."
He gripped the small knife and aimed it at the Shadow Rabbit’s eye. At the same time, he thought to himself:
"Use Eye of Probability, designate drop—Beginner General Job Change Book."
In an instant, the world went quiet.
The clamor outside the shed, the crackling of the distant campfire, the rasping of the old man sharpening his knife—all of it vanished.
Countless flowing numbers and symbols appeared before Lin Feng’s eyes, swirling like a galaxy before finally converging into a line of golden text:
【Eye of Probability activated】
【Designated Drop: Beginner General Job Change Book (Original probability 0.001%)】
【Drop probability for this instance adjusted to 100%】
【Remaining uses: 0/1, Next refresh: 30 days later】
The text dissipated.
The knife in Lin Feng’s hand fell, accurately piercing the Shadow Rabbit’s eye.
There was no struggle, no scream. The Shadow Rabbit’s last breath of life faded, and its body went completely limp.
At the same time, an imperceptible golden light emerged from the corpse, condensing in the air into a thin, bronze-covered booklet that landed silently in the shadows at Lin ✧ NоvеIight ✧ (Original source) Feng’s feet.
The entire process took less than a second. The old man was looking down, sharpening his knife, and noticed nothing.
Lin Feng’s heart pounded wildly, but he remained calm on the surface. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
He quickly wrapped the class change scroll in a blood-stained rag, tucked it into his chest, and then continued processing the Shadow Rabbit’s corpse.
Skinning, removing meat, and separating bone spikes.
His movements were steady, showing no sign of anything unusual.
But Lin Feng’s heart was in an uproar. He could feel a faint warmth radiating from the booklet in his chest, like a piece of warm jade—it was calling to him.
"Is there a Shadow Core?" the old man suddenly asked. "These rabbits have a 10% chance of dropping a core; it can be sold for some money."
Lin Feng checked the internal organs of the corpse and shook his head: "No, just the skin and bone spikes."
"Tch, average luck." The old man stopped paying attention. "Hang the skin over there to dry. The bone spikes can be ground into arrowheads, and we’ll stew the meat tonight."
Lin Feng did as he was told, categorizing the processed parts. Throughout the process, he kept his head down, avoiding eye contact with the old man.
He needed to find a safe place to use this class change scroll as soon as possible. The General class—this would give him the capital to survive in this cruel world immediately!
In the evening, the area around the campfire in the center of the camp was crowded with people.
Scarface’s team indeed had a bountiful harvest; a four-meter-long Swamp Crocodile was being roasted over the fire.
Lin Feng received a small piece of meat and a bowl of wild vegetable soup. He sat in a corner eating silently, while his mind planned how to slip away.
Late at night, the camp gradually quieted down.
Lin Feng lay on the straw mat pretending to sleep until he heard the old man’s steady snoring, then he rose silently.
He crept out of the kitchen shed, using the shadows as cover to reach the most remote corner of the camp, behind an abandoned animal pen. It was filled with clutter, and few people ever came here.
After confirming no one was around, Lin Feng took out the bronze-colored booklet from his chest.
In the dim night, the gold-embossed text on the cover of the class change scroll glowed faintly:
Lin Feng did not hesitate.
He bit his fingertip and dripped a drop of blood onto the cover. The blood was instantly absorbed, and the class change scroll transformed into a beam of golden light that surged into his chest.

A warm current surged from his heart to his four limbs and hundred bones.
Lin Feng felt his body undergoing a wondrous transformation. His muscles became tighter and more powerful, his vision became clearer in the dark, and even his breathing became deeper.
He instinctively clenched his fist, clearly feeling the increase in strength. His body, which had been weak from hunger and exhaustion, was now filled with a sense of power.
Not only that, but memories of basic combat techniques appeared in his mind: how to swing a weapon more effectively, how to maintain balance while moving, how to observe an enemy's weaknesses...
This was the initial gift of the General class!
Lin Feng suppressed the excitement in his heart and began to think about his next plan.
First, he needed to level up as quickly as possible. With every level, he would gain 1 attribute point, and with the percentage bonus from 'Generals Majesty', his growth rate would far exceed that of ordinary people.
Lin Feng quietly returned to the kitchen shed and lay back down on the straw mat.
This time, his heartbeat was steady and powerful.
Though his chest was now empty, the power surging within his body was real.
