Chapter 394: Darkness within (1)

"You will perish."

We will consume your body."

"Resistance is futile."

Eventually, the voices became more clear. It was evident that it was due to Luke’s increase of yang power. He decided to call mana his yin energy and the shadow his yang energy. It was weird, though. Luke was having a hard time understanding why that energy could manifest inside him like voices... The voice that of the lost souls said that Luke could become part of the problem if he were to lose, but he didn’t think that all of the souls of those who had come to that dimension had gotten stuck there. Aivern managed to escape many times, after all. Although he was an exception due to his absurd powers, the fact still stands... Despite the fact that Luke despised the guy, he still deserved some respect.

"I suppose I need to control this energy and then possibly, I can’t get rid of the voices..." Luke thought.

It would be hard to do that while he was fighting the enemies, but Luke had time, and his attacks were growing stronger since he was recovering his powers. In any case, since that type of energy was messing with his anger, Luke assumed that it would be the first step to achieving that.

Much to Luke’s surprise, he didn’t have a hard time making yang energy manifest, he quickly created a shadow ball flying above his hand, but he couldn’t quite grasp its nature. If could burn, freeze, cut, or hurt in any way when it touches others? Luke couldn’t tell... He fired it at one of the shadows... And it didn’t kill or do anything. It only made the shadow grow bigger.

"What the hell..." Luke thought. "It is useless against them in its most basic form."

Luke tried to use that energy in many other ways, but he didn’t accomplish much. Or rather, he didn’t accomplish anything... He also couldn’t Transmute a shadow Ball filled with Yang energy into mana either. It was weird... Since the shadows could hurt him, and they were essentially made of that. Luke was probably missing something.

Still, before he could come up with an answer, the dimension finally began to react to him. The whole place began to tremble, and even the shadows stopped attacking him. In fact, they began to disappear and move to a spot above Luke. The purple shadows kept increasing in size until even the whole dimension began to be absorbed by the shadow.

Luke hadn’t recovered enough power to deal with something of that size, and it seemed that he wouldn’t have time to recover even more given the situation. Attacking now before that mass could become even stronger seemed like the best course of action, but when Luke prepared to do that, a big eye appeared in the middle of the dark sphere and then looked at Luke.

"You aren’t the one who had come here in the last few times... Who are ?" The purple sphere asked.

"My name is Chuch Norris," Luke said.

"Why do you lie?" The purple sphere asked. "Your pulse is irregular, your voice is high and your confident smile is fake. Those are basic signs of someone who is lying."

Luke couldn’t help but frown. The voice seemed pretty uninterested and didn’t emit much animosity toward Luke. It was almost like that thing had been sleeping for a long time and just woke up now that someone knocked at its door. Still, Luke could feel some bad vibes confining from that thing. It was like a massive concentration of the energy that he had inside him now... Naturally, he couldn’t use Appraisal on it.

"Where is that sort man who has the memories of the universe, he came to stop me many times, but he only ended up stalling for time," the purple sphere said. "In the last few times he came, he looked quite exhausted, did he finally realized that what he was trying to accomplish was impossible?"

"He is dead," Luke said. "He was about to join your side, but then he fell by my hand. Regardless, it seems that you are the cause of all this mess. The being who wants to destroy the whole universe."

"I don’t want to destroy anything, you are the one who wants to destroy it," the purple shadow said.

"... What?" Luke frowned.

"You should know by know after you absorbed many shadows, you should have learned that the moment you learned how to use mana," the purple sphere said.

Luke frowned again... What was that supposed to mean... He didn’t realize anything when he began to use mana. In any case, it seemed that yin and yang energy had some sort of connection and similarities since that was the case. After thinking for a while, Luke reached some conclusions, but they seemed too unexpected.

"Mana is a spiritual energy that enhances the body and the spirit, but one can only improve their spirit with training related to mana, so most of the training will be mental," Luke said. "Mana is also also connected with life experiences... The more intense they are, the more one can strengthen their bodies and their spirits as well. That is yin... As for yang, is it the reverse of that? If that is the case, then the base of that energy would be experiences obtained after death? No... It is... The resentment that people leave behind once they die. Just like thoughts can give shape to mana, the concentration of dark thoughts can have some sort of effect once the origin of those thoughts disappears."

"You aren’t entirely wrong," the purple sphere said. "When living beings are alive and their thoughts become powerful enough they become able to produce and control mana. When they die, their mana disperse around the place they are... However, what happens to their spirits? Where do they go? What happens to their thoughts once they are able to control mana? After death?"
