Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse With My Military System
Chapter 271: A Safe Return
Richard did what Sara had suggested, he flew around in circles for about thirty minutes, deceiving Lin Feng and his associates who may still be spying on the area. Hoping that the time was enough, he returned to the command center in New Clark City and landed smoothly on the helipad of the command center building.
As soon as he arrived there, he saw Mark and Sara, standing side by side with a relieved look on their faces. Richard deactivated his suits and walked over to Sara.
Sara also stepped forward, meeting Richard in the middle, and then she tiptoed to kiss Richard tenderly on the lips. After a brief moment of affection, she stepped back with a smile. "Welcome back, Richard. We were worried about you out there," she said, her eyes reflecting both relief and concern.
Richard, still feeling the adrenaline from the battle, returned her smile. "Thanks, Sara. It was tough, but I managed to get Lin Feng to retreat... for now."
Mark joined them, clapping Richard on the back. "That was some quick thinking with the Tsar Bomba bluff," he said. "You really had us on edge here, monitoring the situation."
Richard sighed, running a hand through his hair. "You should thank Sara for that, for she was the one who came up with the idea of using the Tsar Bomba bluff," Richard acknowledged, giving Sara a grateful look. "It was a desperate move, but it worked."
Sara shrugged modestly. "I had to think of a way to get you out there. I know with Lin Feng’s personality, he wouldn’t let you get out so easily. But let us not relax to this point. Lin Feng is in the Philippines and it’s only a matter of time before he finds us. Now, speaking of the Tsar Bomba, the nuclear missiles have struck their designated targets."
"Oh yeah..." Richard said, opening his system to look at the changes.

"Yup, there were some significant changes in my system. It seems we have killed tens of millions of zombies out there huh?" Richard commented.
"Well, let’s hope that the resources you got from the nuclear strike are enough to defend us from Lin Feng’s army," Mark said.
"With these resources, I think we can deal with Lin Feng. The suit could stand toe-to-toe with him. I’ll have special forces wear Titan’s Guard Mark II and help me take down Lin Feng. And I’m going to create an army so big that it would clear all the zombies in this world. But before that, I have to take a rest and get checked."
"Now that you have mentioned it, we have medical teams on standby, waiting for you," Sara interjected. "You should get a full medical check-up. That battle took a toll on you, and we can’t afford any unforeseen complications, especially with Lin Feng still at large."
"Also, I have to fix my suit later," Richard said.
"Isn’t it better to buy a new one than fix it?" Mark said, offering another perspective.
"I want to know the suit well, and I can do that by repairing it myself. I’m sure it’s easy. Anyway, I’ll meet you later for debriefing. And Sara...I might need you to comfort me later."
Sara giggled and playfully hit him on the shoulder before responding, "Always the joker, even after a battle like that. Sure, I’ll be there for you, as always."
Richard gave her a warm smile and then turned to leave for the medical bay. As he walked away, he felt the weight of the day’s events on his shoulders. The battle with Lin Feng had been more intense than he had anticipated, and he knew the war was far from over. Repairing his suit and planning for the next encounter with Lin Feng was at the forefront of his mind.
Upon arriving at the medical bay, the medical team immediately attended to him. They conducted a thorough examination, checking for any injuries that might have been masked by the adrenaline of battle. Richard cooperated patiently, knowing that his physical condition was crucial for the challenges ahead.
After the check-up, the medical team confirmed that he was in good health, with only minor bruises and fatigue. They advised him to rest and recover for the next few days.
Richard then headed to the workshop to inspect his suit which he placed on an armor stand. Looking at the schematics and the manual of it, he studied the areas that needed repair. However, it was too difficult for him to understand as the suit was integrated with an advanced technology that didn’t exist this year. Even with his background as a college student in mechanical engineering, there was no way he could fully comprehend the complexities of the suit’s technology. He realized that repairing the suit was going to be a more challenging task than he initially thought.
Feeling slightly overwhelmed, Richard decided to take a different approach. He contacted the engineering team for assistance and had them reverse engineer every bit and piece of the suit to understand its functionalities better, and they obliged. Coming to his aide and began studying the suit.
He remembered Mark’s suggestion about buying a new one instead of fixing it. And he is starting to lean on that idea.
Eight o’clock in the evening. One of the guards stepped inside the room. "Sir, you have a visitor."
"Show them in," Richard signaled and then her little sister, Lisa, entered the room.
"Brother!" Lisa said in relief as she rushed up to Richard and hugged him tightly. "I was so worried."
Richard returned the hug, feeling a sense of calmness wash over him at the presence of his sister. "I’m okay, Lisa. It was tough, but I managed," he reassured her.
Lisa pulled back, her eyes scanning him up and down as if looking for any sign of injury. "You’re sure you’re alright?"
"Yeah, I’m fine, just a few bruises here and there," Richard replied, trying to downplay his exhaustion.
Lisa nodded, still looking concerned but somewhat relieved. "You always manage to pull through, don’t you? But please, be more careful. I can’t imagine what I’d do if something happened to you."
Richard gave a small smile. "I’ll be careful, I promise. So, what brings you here this late?"
Lisa’s expression brightened a bit. "I just wanted to see you. And... I brought you some food."
"Oh," Richard chuckled. "Thanks, Lisa. That’s really thoughtful of you."
