Callum nodded wordlessly.

They left him there, sitting in the library with a children’s book still open on the table beside him.

Outside in the hallway, Damian let out a long breath.

"That was harder than I expected," he admitted.

"Yeah," Damon agreed. "But it was right."

"You think he’ll choose to stay?"

Damon considered it. "I think he wants to. Whether he thinks he deserves to is another question."

"Well." Damian’s mouth quirked into something that wasn’t quite a smile. "He’s got until tomorrow to figure that out."

They walked in silence for a moment. Then Damian said, "Thank you."

Damon glanced at him. "For what?"

"For helping me see past the betrayal. For reminding me that context matters. I was ready to just exile him and be done with it. You’re the one who pushed for another option."

"That’s because you’re the strategic one," Damon said easily. "You see the big picture, think about precedent and pack law and what sends the right message. I just see people trying to survive impossible situations and wonder if there’s a way to help them do it."

"That’s not just seeing people," Damian said quietly. "That’s caring about them. It’s your gift, Damon. Don’t diminish it."

Damon felt warmth bloom in his chest. His brother wasn’t usually this forthcoming with praise. "You going soft on me, old man?"

"Not even remotely." But Damian’s expression was fond. "I’m just acknowledging that you were right. About Callum. About giving him a real choice instead of just following the letter of the law."

"Well, don’t let it go to your head," Damon said lightly. "I’m only right about half the time."

"Generous estimate."

They were both smiling now, and it felt good. Normal. Like they were brothers first and Alphas second, which was exactly how it should be.

"Eve’s going to be proud of you," Damon added. "When she hears about this."

Damian’s expression softened immediately at the mention of their mate. "She’s already proud of both of us. She told me this morning. Said she couldn’t believe how lucky she was to have mates who cared about doing the right thing even when it was complicated."

"She said that?"

"Word for word. Right before Silas distracted her very thoroughly."

Damon grinned. "As he should. We earned that distraction."

"That we did." Damian clapped him on the shoulder. "Come on. I need food and a shower, in that order. And then I’m going to go find our mate and make sure she’s recovered from this morning."

"Pretty sure she’s still sleeping," Damon said. "We were not gentle."

"We were exactly as gentle as she wanted us to be," Damian corrected. "There’s a difference."

Fair point.

They headed toward the main part of the estate together, and Damon felt something settle in his chest. They’d handled Callum’s situation the right way. Had given the man a genuine chance at redemption without ignoring the severity of what he’d done.

It was the kind of leadership that would define the pack going forward. Not rigid adherence to law regardless of circumstance, but thoughtful consideration of context and consequence and the messiness of real life.

And if Callum chose to stay, if he proved himself trustworthy again, then Rosie would get to grow up with her father and her pack both.

That was worth fighting for.

Just like everything else they’d built.

Chapter 169: Homecoming

Eve was in the estate’s main sitting room with Maya and Vessa when she felt it, a familiar presence crossing through the wards, a signature she’d know anywhere even after weeks of absence.

Her head came up sharply.

"What is it?" Maya asked, looking up from the book she’d been pretending to read.

Eve was already on her feet, moving toward the entrance hall before she’d consciously decided to do so. "Uncle Raphael. He’s here."

Behind her, she heard Vessa’s quiet sound of approval and Maya’s excited "Finally!" but Eve was already through the doorway, her heart beating faster with every step.

The front doors opened just as she reached them.

Raphael stood on the threshold, looking exactly like himself and somehow entirely different at the same time. Same dark hair pulled back from elegant features. Same immaculate clothes that managed to look both formal and comfortable. Same knowing eyes that saw too much and forgave even more.

But there was something lighter about him now. Something that hadn’t been there before.

He looked free.

"Uncle," Eve breathed.

Raphael’s expression softened immediately. "Hello, little one."

Then she was moving, closing the distance between them, and Raphael caught her in a hug that felt like coming home. He smelled like sandalwood and old books and magic, familiar and grounding, and Eve felt something in her chest unclench that she hadn’t realized had been tight.

"You came back," she said against his shoulder.

"Of course I came back." Raphael’s arms tightened around her. "The work at the Court is finished. The reform passed. The watching is done. Where else would I be?"

Eve pulled back enough to look at him properly. "How long can you stay?"

"As long as you’ll have me." His mouth curved into a small smile. "I’ve handed my official duties over to the new coalition leadership. My service to the Seraphim Court is concluded. I’m simply Raphael now. Your uncle. Nothing more, nothing less."

"Nothing more?" Eve’s throat felt tight. "You were the one who kept me safe for twenty years. Who watched over me when I didn’t even know I needed watching. Who made sure I survived long enough to claim what was mine. That’s everything, Uncle Raphael. Not nothing."

His eyes gleamed with something that might have been tears, though she’d never actually seen him cry. "You turned out rather well, considering."

"Considering you had to do it all from a distance. Considering you couldn’t even tell me who you were."

"The circumstances were not ideal," Raphael agreed. "But the result...." He stepped back, holding her at arm’s length, his eyes tracking over her face with careful attention. "Look at you. Queen of the Seraphim Court. Mated to three powerful Alphas. Glowing with happiness and satisfaction and...." His eyebrows rose slightly. "Very recent and very thorough sexual activity."

Eve felt heat flood her face. "Unclel!"

"What? I’m an incubus. I can sense these things. It’s practically my job description." His smile turned wicked. "Though I must say, all three of them at once is ambitious even by my standards. Well done."

"I cannot believe we’re having this conversation."

"I can." Raphael’s expression turned fond. "You’ve always been delightfully easy to scandalize. It’s one of your most endearing qualities."

Before Eve could formulate a response, she heard footsteps behind her. She turned to find all three of her mates entering the entrance hall, clearly drawn by her emotional spike through the bond.

Damian reached her first, his hand settling warm and possessive on her lower back. His eyes went to Raphael, assessing, and Eve felt the weight of Alpha authority rolling off him in waves.

"Raphael," Damian said. It wasn’t quite a question.

"Damien." Raphael inclined his head with exactly the right amount of respect, enough to acknowledge Damian’s authority, not so much that it suggested submission. "Thank you for keeping my niece safe. And for making her so thoroughly happy, if her current state is any indication."

Damon appeared at Eve’s other side, and before she could react he cupped her face and kissed her. Right there. In front of Raphael and Maya and Vessa who had followed her into the entrance hall. In front of the house staff who were definitely watching from various doorways.

The kiss was deep and possessive and left absolutely no doubt about exactly what had been happening upstairs that morning.

When Damon finally pulled back, Eve’s face was flaming and her knees were weak.

"Welcome back home, Raphael," Damon said pleasantly, as though he hadn’t just thoroughly claimed his mate in front of her uncle. "We’ve heard a lot about what you have done in court."

Raphael’s expression was unreadable for a moment. Then he " Thank you for welcoming me back"

"Absolutely," Damon agreed cheerfully.

Silas moved forward then, offering his hand to Raphael in a more traditional greeting. "Welcome back"

Raphael shook his hand, and Eve saw the way his eyes sharpened slightly, assessing Silas with the same careful attention he’d given Damian and Damon. Whatever he found seemed to satisfy him, because he nodded once.

Maya appeared at Raphael’s elbow, practically vibrating with excitement. "Eve says you’re staying this time?"

"If I’m welcome."

"You’re family," Eve said firmly. "Of course you’re welcome. We have plenty of space. You can take the east wing suite, where you stayed the last time."

"That sounds perfect." Raphael’s eyes found hers again. "Thank you, Eve. For making space for me in your life even after everything."

"You’ve always had space in my life," Eve said quietly. "I just didn’t know it was you filling it until recently."

"We should talk," Eve said. "Properly. Just the two of us."

"I’d like that." Raphael glanced at her mates. "With your permission, of course."

Damian’s hand tightened briefly on Eve’s back, but when he spoke his voice was easy. "Eve doesn’t need our permission to spend time with her uncle. She’s Queen of the Seraphim Court. She makes her own choices."
