The Alpha Kings And Their Stripper Mate
Chapter 356: Court Visits and Power Play
The summons from the Seraphim Court arrived via official courier three days after the virtual pack meeting incident.
Eve read the elegantly scripted invitation, more command than request....and felt something tighten in her chest.
The Conclave requests Your Majesty’s presence for the quarterly review session. Three days hence. Attendance mandatory for all ruling monarchs.
"Mandatory," Eve said aloud, showing the letter to Damian. "They’re not even pretending it’s optional."
Damian scanned the contents, his expression darkening. "They have no authority to mandate your attendance. You’re their Queen, not their subject."
"Technically the reform established quarterly check-ins as required for all faction leaders, including the crown." Eve sighed. "They’re just enforcing the rules we all agreed to."
"Still don’t like the tone." Damon appeared over her shoulder, reading the invitation. "Sounds like they’re trying to assert authority over you."
"Let them try," Silas said from where he was reviewing pack correspondence. "Eve will remind them exactly who holds the power. The same way she did during the reform vote."
Eve appreciated their confidence, but the reality was more complicated. The Seraphim Court was a political minefield even on good days. And while the reform had passed, there were still factions that resented the changes.....and resented her for forcing them.
"We’ll go," Eve decided. "Show united support for the reform. Make it clear I’m engaged with implementation." She paused. "But I’m not going alone. You’re all coming with me."
"Obviously," Damian said. "Did you think we’d let you walk into that political snake pit without us?"
"I was hoping you’d say that."
Three days later, they stepped through the portal into the Seraphim Court’s receiving chamber.
The reaction was immediate and gratifying.
Every supernatural in the chamber dropped into bows so deep they were practically prostrate. The whispers started immediately....not quite quiet enough to be discreet.
"The Queen returns..."
"With all three mates..."
"Look at her. The power..."
Eve walked through the chamber with her head high, her three mates flanking her like an honor guard. She wore formal Court attire, a gown of deep midnight blue that seemed to absorb light, with the Seraphim crest embroidered in silver thread across the bodice. Her hair was swept up, exposing the elegant line of her neck, and she wore the ceremonial jewelry that marked her as ruling monarch.
She looked every inch the Queen they’d tried to keep from the throne.
The Conclave chamber was already filling when they arrived. Faction leaders from across the supernatural world....some familiar from the reform vote, others new faces representing smaller groups that had gained seats under the new structure.
Astrid, the Lycan representative, approached first. "Your Majesty. Welcome back. We’re pleased you could attend."
"Of course. Reform implementation is too important to manage remotely." Eve gestured to her mates. "I believe you know Alpha Damian Blackwood and his brothers."
"Indeed. Gentlemen." Astrid’s nod was respectful. "Your pack’s implementation progress has been exemplary. Other territories are using you as a model."
"We’re happy to share what’s working," Damian said smoothly.
They made their way through the pre-session socializing, carefully choreographed conversations with political undertones, alliances being tested and reinforced, the subtle dance of power that defined Court politics.
Eve handled it with growing confidence. This was her world now. She belonged here.
But she could also feel the undercurrents. The faction leaders who smiled to her face while radiating resentment. The whispered conversations that stopped when she got too close. The careful assessment in every interaction.
They were testing her. Seeing if the Queen who’d forced reform would maintain her authority or if her power had peaked during the vote.
Let them test, Eve thought. Let them wonder. And then I’ll remind them exactly who I am.
The formal session began with the Conclave seated in their designated positions—a semicircle of ornate chairs facing the throne where Eve sat.
The symbolism was deliberate. Under the old structure, faction leaders had sat as equals with the crown present only for ceremonial purposes. Now, the Queen sat elevated, and they reported to her.
Some of them clearly hated it.
"First order of business," Astrid began, consulting her notes. "Implementation progress reports. Each faction leader will provide updates on reform adoption within their territories."
The reports were mostly positive. Most factions had embraced the changes—extending representation to smaller groups, establishing accountability measures, limiting autocratic authority.
But not all.
The vampire delegation, led by a severe man named Corvus...gave a report that was technically compliant but clearly resentful.
"The Vampire Clans have implemented the required changes," Corvus said, his tone suggesting he’d rather be doing literally anything else. "Though we maintain that certain traditional governance structures were functioning adequately without modification."
"Adequately for whom?" Eve asked, her voice carrying clearly through the chamber. "The established clans? Or the unaffiliated vampires who had no voice in decisions that affected their lives?"
Corvus’s expression tightened. "The traditional structure maintained order...."
"The traditional structure maintained the status quo," Eve interrupted. "Which benefited those already in power while marginalizing everyone else. That’s precisely what the reform was designed to address."
"Your Majesty, with respect..."
"With respect," Eve said, and there was steel in her voice now, "the reform passed with unanimous support. If the Vampire Clans are having difficulty with implementation, we’re happy to provide assistance. But we’re not relitigating whether the changes are necessary. That question was answered months ago."
The chamber had gone absolutely silent. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
Corvus looked like he wanted to argue further, but one glance at Eve’s expression.....at the faint glow of power that had begun emanating from her skin.....made him think better of it.
"Of course, Your Majesty," he said tightly. "We appreciate the offer of assistance."
"Excellent. Next faction?"
The rest of the reports proceeded smoothly after that. No one else tried to challenge the reform’s validity.
During the mid-session break, Eve retreated to the private chambers reserved for the crown with her mates.
"You handled that perfectly," Damian said, pulling her against him. "Corvus was testing you. Seeing if you’d back down."
"I’m done backing down." Eve leaned into his warmth. "They keep acting like the reform is negotiable. It’s not."
"Good." Damon appeared with refreshments. "Let them know you’re not the uncertain woman who first walked into this Court. You’re their Queen. Act like it."
"I am." Eve accepted the wine gratefully. "Though I have to admit, all the political maneuvering is exhausting."
"Then let us help you relax," Silas said, and there was dark promise in his voice.
Eve’s pulse kicked. "We have to be back in session in fifteen minutes...."
"Then we’d better be quick." Damian was already moving toward her, his hands finding the fastenings of her gown.
"Damian, we can’t....someone could walk in...."
"The door’s locked. And soundproofed." His mouth found her neck. "Plenty of time to remind you exactly who you belong to before you have to go back out there and be Queen."
