Chapter 147: The Morning After

Light found the room in thin slats, sliding through the window and stitching pale bands across the heavy furs.

Sophia rolled on the bed, as she breathed deeply. It was like she was in heaven. There was just something about the scent of the room that seemed to calm her down.

Scent...scent?

Her eyes snapped open immediately as the thought came in. And as she did, it was like everything that happened the previous night came back to her in full force.

She didn’t mind the festival and what they did at the square. It was what they did after. She was in Orion’s room. She remembered everything. The feel of his hands on her body, his mouth against herself as she drew him closer, she even straddled him at some point.

Mortification washed over Sophia. Who gave her the idea? Where did it come from? Scrap the idea who even gave her the courage to do what she did last night?

She bolted upright immediately with one thought in her head. She had to leave. Everywhere she looked reminded her more of what she did with Orion...his hands which she admitted he was very good with, the way he had looked at her, the way she had told him boldly that she wasn’t going to push him away.

Her cheeks flushed as she came to one glaring truth...she had sex with Orion. Orion who was the alpha and leader of his pack. Orion who she always called annoying, the same man she called an oaf but also the same man who she couldn’t deny that she felt something for.

She had to leave. Yes, that was the best thing to do. It was better she left before Orion sent her away too. And that would even hurt her more. And besides this was a one time thing. It’s not like she was special or anything...she released a breath stopping her thoughts at that point.

She swung her legs over the side of the bed and stood up quietly but as she did, she could feel a little sting between her legs.

It’s not like Sophia was trying or going to deny what happened between her and Orion but if she even had the thought at first, then it was down the drain because that sting was enough evidence.

She fumbled for something...anything...to clothe herself with before Orion woke up. Sleep-mussed hair clung to her cheeks as she searched around quietly until her fingers closed on a length of fabric and she hauled it up without looking.

Sophia didn’t care that the cloth smelled unlike her and more like Orion. Orion the fact that it ended midway down her thighs. She didn’t care because she could not afford to care.

Instead her feet found the fur rug with practiced quiet. Well...not really . She stumbled immediately she started walking but luckily for her, Orion was still asleep. He didn’t stir at all. Which made her cincluse that he was probably a deep sleeper.

Sophia continued her quest. This time, she made sure she was more careful. She made sure not to fumble in her own feet or miss a step. She wondered how her clumsiness always choose to appear at certain times and mostly when it shouldn’t.

Outside the window, the pack was already waking up. She could hear people moving even if few and some people laughing. Normally by this time, she would have been running at the training grounds already but she just had to let this stupid handsome man tempt her.

Thank the goddess the door to his bedroom was opened. She slipped last ot and began picking her clothes off the floor. She heard a soft exhale from Orion in the room and held her breath to see if he was awake but there was nothing. It seemed the goddess was in her side today.

She eased toward the door, each step as careful as she could be. Halfway across the room a sharp sting licked through her lower belly. She swallowed, knees buckling for just a second, and then steadied herself.

No one told her that she would suffer this much fro the aftermath of last night’s intensity.

She pressed the door open with the gentlest shove, the wood barely whispering. The night’s light had changed; morning was less forgiving than dusk. The compound was painted with a golden light. She closed the door gently behind her and moved down the porch as fast as she could, making sure no one saw her as she made it to the house beside Orion’s own.

Immediately she entered, she locked the door behind her and rushed to the bathroom where she took a bath. It was only as she removed the dress she was wearing that she realized it wasn’t her own.

Sophia stared at the dress or rather tunic in her hands. How was it that she always had a way to do exactly the opposite of what she sought to do? How had she carried Orion’s cloth and even wore it all the way to her own home before she noticed? And here she thought she had escaped him.

She didn’t care though, she had to leave her home before Orion made his way there so she quickly took a bath, not even minding the fact that it was ice cold water. She immediately wore her training clothes and without checking for anything else...like the book she had left on her bed...she dashed out of her room to the training grounds. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

Perhaps if Sophia had paid more attention, she would have noticed the new design now lodged at her back or the fact that Orion was pretending to sleep all the whole trying to hold back laughter as she stumbled around his home cursing quietly.

Immediately she left, he opened his eyes and stood up from his bed. He stood at the window as he watched her run from her home with a slight wince in her steps, making her way to the training grounds.

If Sophia thought she could escape him, then she was wrong. Because he just had one taste of her, and he was already starving for more.
