Chapter 172: What’s Your Side?

Zed picked Isadora’s arm trying to read her heartbeat as a restless Newton paced in the room. "What now?" He asked. "She’s still alive but I don’t understand why she’s not waking up yet she’s not sick," Zed explained placing her hand on the side. "What then? You said you’d help." Kael was absentmindedly roaming in the room as the duo exchanged words. He spotted a book on the nightstand and decided to kill some time with it. Grabbing the book, he sat beside Isadora’s bed and browsed through. The cover looked inviting. He first perused through and wait! "What the fuck!" He exclaimed catching the attention of Newton and Zed. They stared to his direction confused."What is it?" Newton asked."You need to see this guys," Kael said without lifting his eyes off the book. The two walked towards where he sat, curiosity written all over their faces. Their expressions turned to those of surprise when they spotted what was on the book. Zed however acted stoic after a while."Impossible!" Newton said blinking his eyes twice. The fact that words were writing themselves on a book didn’t settle well with him. This must be one of his reveries, right? But it was all true, right in front of his Thomas eyes. "What the hell is this?" "It’s called The Chronicles of The One," Zed said earning the spotlight. Kael and Newton looked at him as if coercing the words out of him. "This book was written by the seer during the era of Valorian superiority, when The One emerged." He explained but the looks he got demanded to know more. "It is written that only The One could be able to read the contents of this book.""But I can read," Kael said skeptically. "Only because someone else is reading it," Zed explained. But the question was who. No one needed to tell them who it was as their gazes shifted to a sleeping Isadora. "Initially, the book was blank with no words written on it. I had kept it hidden in the library for ages but seems like it called on to her." "Wait. So you mean you are a seer?" Newton asked though he already had the answer right in front of his eyes."Yes," Zed replied rendering Newton speechless. So all this time he had been dealing with one powerful being. Lord! And he almost kissed him! "But why... how could a powerful being such as you be arrested?" Newton asked. According to tales he heard, seers were more powerful even compared to Crescian royalties. How then did he get arrested in the first place? It would take like five Crescian royalties to bring a single seer down!"I wanted to be arrested," he curtly said. "I wanted to give Griffin the satisfaction that he needed without knowing I was actually buying time for her. He rushed to war thinking about Alexander only but she is more important than Alexander, maybe," he added the last word in a whisper. "So you mean Alexander is not The One?" Kael asked placing the book on the table. "It is written here that he indeed is The One," he added pointing at a line."I never said that. So many people misunderstand the whole concept," he sighed, probably tired of explaining. "The One is a two in one being. That means he cannot be complete without the other half. They must coexist!" "So who is the other person, the other part of the one?" Newton asked. "She is," Zed answered gesturing towards the sleeping beauty. A knock sounded on the door disrupting the conversation. Newton reached for it angrily pretending to be the angry Griffin."Didn’t I say no one is to..." He swallowed the rest of his words. In front of him stood a royal army’s knights and his aura was equally great as his. He must have been sent by Griffin. "I can see you are keeping the act all together," the knight said with a smirk. "Apologies Majesty," he added noticing Newton was pissed, though it was not genuine. "Speak," Newton said uninterested with his tantrum. "You said you’ll be sending the troops with me but I can see little to no activity about that. I’m certain you know His Majesty doesn’t like waiting, " he reminded Newton. This was proving to be harder than Newton had thought. If he supported the king, it meant he and Isadora would be in two different factions, and if he supported Isadora, he would be betraying his kingdom. Supporting Isadora was like supporting Valoria indirectly. "Just be patient. I’ll gather the troops in an hour.""You better," the knight said tapping his shoulders like a little boy. "I’ll be waiting, unless you have other plans in mind. Or maybe you want to overthrow...""I’m loyal to my kingdom and I can never do that. I’m not even in the position to. If you’ll excuse me." He shut the door heaving a sigh. "Are you going to release the troops?" Zed asked. Newton eyed Kael curiosly. What side was this guy even on? Or was he some spy waiting for the right moment to pounce on them. "What do you think Kael?" Newton asked. Kael, who was immersed in the book, lifted his face innocently only to be met with a curious couple of eyes. "I am in no position to tell you about that," he said with shrugged shoulders."I didn’t ask for your opinion. I asked you which side are you picking? Griffin’s or Isadora’s?" "As a knight I vowed to protect the citizens of Crescia so I’m going with the side that aims at bringing good to the Crescians.""In that case, it is Griffin’s side then," Zed said with arms crossed over his chest. "But on the other hand," he said noticing the change of aura in the room. One powerful Crescian and a seer would kill him even before he thought of making a move. "Who would want to be on The One’s bad side?" He asked adding a staged laughter to it. "At least not me." Sorry readers I forgot to tell you that I was joining school this month. I’ll be unstable in my updates. I hope you all understand.
