The Assassin's Redemption: A Princess's Journey to Forgiveness
Chapter 40: She What?
Isadora woke up in a dark room that she couldn’t recognize. The area around was pitch black that one couldn’t see an inch ahead. Her gaze shifted towards the area and she saw a candle placed on a nightstand. The area around the candle was dimly lit and all she could make out was a bed and a figure who lay unmoving on it. Fear gripped her insides and she gasped in surprise.
The figure stirred in his sleep and sat on the bed as his eyes searched for something, or rather someone in the darkness. His shining eyes glimmered in the darkness as he scrutinized the area before his gaze finally landed on where Isadora stood. His gaze softened and he looked much calmer now.
"Isadora? Is that you?" That voice! Isadora recognized it in the darkness.
"Alex? What are you doing here?" She asked making for his bed.
"Well. This is my room." Alexander said as he rubbed his back nervously but his gaze sharpened again making Isadora to stiffen. His deathly stare made her to shiver and she swallowed instinctively. What had she done to provoke him now?
"You kill me and yet expect to find peace in heaven? I promised to haunt you even in hell." He said coldly as he stood from his bed. His eyes held no emotion in them as he slowly stalked towards where she was standing.
Isadora saw the sudden change in his eyes and she knew it would be hard to convince him right now. She searched for anything that she could use in self defense when she felt a dagger in her blouse. Without hesitating, she took it and was surprised to find that it was the same dagger that had hurt Alexander. But it was all she got for now anyways. She unsheathed it and held it defensively. "Please don’t force me to do this Alex." She pleaded.
Alexander halted on his tracks as he stared at the dagger emotionlessly. An odd expression registered on his face as he looked at her and the dagger skeptically. "I can see you also carried that in Hell to taunt me with it. And don’t give me that look. You already killed me anyways." He spat.
Isadora shook her head in denial. No! This was not the Alexander she knew. This had to be a dream. It wasn’t real. Alexander was still alive and would not die. This was just her mind playing some tricks on her. How she wished for someone to shake her and tell her that it was all but a dream. Unfortunately, no one did. Instead, Alexander took a step forward startling her.
"Don’t take another step or else.." She waved the dagger to show what she would do. But instead, Alexander kept on coming closer as if he didn’t fear death. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
"Not that it will be my first time to die. You’ve already killed me. And besides, this is the afterlife. I will always resurrect and haunt you all over again." He said as he took another step closer.
It was the time for Isadora to get surprised. What did he mean by afterlife? Did that mean she was already dead? Gods no! She at least didn’t want to die at such a young age. She had not even gotten married. She remembered losing a lot of blood as the last thing so the chances of being dead were high. Had Alexander also died? Oh no! She shook her head again in denial.
Alexander took a step closer until the tip of the dagger rested on his chest. Isadora stiffened at the sight and she could see a line of blood form on his white shirt. She slowly looked up to meet his eyes but all she could see was hatred and killing intent. Did he hate her that much? Where was the Alexander that she cared for? Maybe she could knock some sense into him.
"Alexander?" She called as she searched for any emotion in his eyes. But the man just stared at her blankly. "It’s me. Isadora. The woman that you love and care for." She said hoping that there was still a part of him that would remember her for who she truly was.
Alexander sighed making her heart to race both in nervousness and excitement. Had he already remembered her real self? She knew her real self would never do anything bad to hurt Alexander. He turned and looked at her hopeful eyes with an emotion she couldn’t quite comprehend. His flaming breath got closer to her face and she flinched. Did he want to kiss her now? The dagger! Gods! Alexander had already driven the dagger through his chest. Isadora’s eyes widened as she stared at the blood that was now staining his shirt red.
"Alex? What have you done?" She asked, her eyes as wide as saucers. "I need to stop the bleeding." She said and was ready to leave when a strong hand gripped her wrist.
"And where do you think you are going? I never even loved you in the first place. So why do you care when you were the one who put me in this condition. I want you to see the agony and pain I went through before I died, all thanks to you." He said and coughed some blood.
Isadora was taken aback by his words as she stood motionless staring at him. Why did she care? Because she.. She what? She tried to find the right answer but she knew that was all in vain now. He had admitted that he never loved her after all. So why would she care? Slowly letting go off his grip on her hand, she stared at him, her face filled with emotions of anger and betrayal.
"Yes. Why should I care when you don’t love me in the first place? Do you even know why I came into your life? No, you don’t. I came to end your life but instead of doing so, I fell for you. I loved you, you fool. But what good has it brought to me? Nothing! Instead of being happy that you are dead, I feel guilty. Yet here you are, placing all the blame on me. I hate you Alexander." She yelled out loud not caring who could hear what she said. Tears were now streaming uncontrollably on her face and she couldn’t take it anymore, so she decided to leave.
It was now the turn of Alexander to get confused. Did she really mean what she said? If that was so, then he was truly a fool for believing that she had killed him. And if not her, then who? The more he tried to get the answers, the more unanswered questions popped up.
"Wait!" He called when he saw her exit but she didn’t want to hear what he had to say. The pain that he was experiencing now was far from the one he was getting from the stab. Yes! The stab caused by him. He foolishly drove the dagger through his chest and he deserved every bit of the pain. But seeing her cry, that he didn’t like. He had to go after her and try to make up things with her before it was too late.
