The Best Point Guard
Chapter 164 - 8: [Brimming with Martial Virtue, A Hero Saves a Beauty]
"Rachel!!"
As Su Xi, Reggie Miller, and Tony Battie walked over, Reggie immediately recognized the woman who had just run out of the car crying for help.
She was a household name in the United States, known as America’s Sweetheart. Her show, *Friends*, was a national sensation, and Reggie Miller was one of her biggest fans. You could even say that Su Xi and Tony Battie had grown up watching her on TV.
She was Jennifer Aniston, and she was as beautiful and charming as ever. Despite all the recent news on TV about her marital problems, her looks hadn’t suffered from the strain of her terrible marriage with Brad Miller.
Reggie Miller hurried over. "Is there anything I can do to help, Jennifer? I’m Reggie. We’ve met before—at the ESPY Awards. We also attended Reagan’s charity dinner together..."
Reggie Miller rambled on.
Jennifer glanced at Reggie Miller and nodded her thanks, then looked at the hulking Tony Battie.
Finally, her gaze fell upon Su Xi.
Su Xi was handsome and tall. Compared to the pointy-faced man and the hulking brute beside him, he looked like an elegant prince straight out of a storybook.
"Sir, please, hurry and help me! My friend fainted, and she’s stuck."
She pulled Su Xi toward the side of the car, where he opened the door.
A woman in a revealing short skirt lay collapsed in the passenger seat, her body wedged into the cramped space. Su Xi quickly lowered the seatback, carefully lifted her out, and laid her flat on the ground. He then took off his jacket to cover her skirt.
"Call an ambulance, quick," Su Xi said.
He had learned some first aid, so he began performing CPR on the girl.
He pressed down hard on the beautiful woman’s chest, the rhythm fast and steady!
He kept up the compressions for over two minutes.
Su Xi unbuttoned the woman’s blouse and, after confirming her mouth and nose were clear of any obstructions, began to give her rescue breaths.
Su Xi was very professional.
A short time later, the woman began to regain consciousness.
Then, the ambulance arrived—in less than five minutes.
That’s how fast things moved in the wealthy districts.
The professional paramedics quickly took over, administered emergency treatment, and loaded her into the ambulance. As they were leaving, the doctor praised Su Xi for his timely intervention.
A little while later, the traffic police arrived.
The traffic accident between the Hollywood star and the NBA players was resolved quickly and smoothly. Since Aniston’s car had drifted into the oncoming lane during the turn, she was found to be completely at fault.
She asked about the damage to their car, quickly settled the payment, and then rushed off to the hospital.
Before she left, she gave Su Xi her heartfelt thanks.
Su Xi said it was no trouble at all.
The little incident didn’t derail their plans, but the more Reggie Miller thought about it, the more something bugged him. He couldn’t help but complain to Su Xi and Tony Battie, "Why didn’t Jennifer let us help that girl? I know first aid, too. I might even be better at it than Jack!"
Tony Battie silently flipped down the passenger-side vanity mirror. He pointed at his own face, then at Miller’s reflection. "Isn’t it obvious?"
Miller let out a pained cry. "ARGH!!! This is driving me crazy!"
He despaired at this world obsessed with looks. ’They won’t even let an ugly guy save someone’s life! Is there any hope left for humanity?’
Meanwhile, Su Xi was silent.
Because while he was administering the rescue breaths, he had heard a notification from the Little Elf: ’Super Talent detected. Super Agility Talent.’
To be honest, if Su Xi had hesitated for even a second, the girl might not have made it.
But Su Xi hadn’t hesitated in the slightest. The thought of a Super Talent never even crossed his mind.
All he wanted was to save a life.
Nothing was more important than a person’s life.
...
Artest’s party was in full swing. He’d invited a wide variety of beautiful women, much to the delight of the Pacers players.
Bender had a girl on each arm, showing off his moves in a corner of the pool.
Little O’Neal was roaring with laughter at something a black girl said, his famously short arms draped awkwardly over her shoulders. Then there was Reggie Miller. Miller was in his element, but it was all talk. He held court with a few girls, performing his signature on-court stand-up routine, regaling them with embellished tales of his glory days in New York City.
The other players all found their own ways to unwind.
In Artest’s backyard, Su Xi was surprised to find a Wing Chun Wooden Dummy. He was very familiar with it. His grandfather had owned one—being from Guangdong, he naturally knew a little Wing Chun.
The sight of it brought back memories of his grandfather.
Su Xi had learned a little from his grandfather, but he had only memorized the forms and routines. There was no real power behind it. When he was a kid getting into fights with the black kids in his neighborhood, he still lost just as much.
There was no helping it. Brute force was the only miracle worker.
Talking about kung fu without factoring in strength and weight was pure nonsense.
THWACK!
THWACK! THWACK!
THWACK! THWACK! THWACK!
Su Xi couldn’t help himself and began to practice on the dummy.
The more he struck the dummy, the more engrossed he became, the more cathartic it felt. His longing for his grandfather poured out of him like a bursting dam. He had bottled up so much grief and longing over the past ten years.
Now, he channeled it all into his fists and feet.
Su Xi’s movements grew faster and faster, and he began to realize the true power of Wing Chun.
He used to think it was all just for show, but now that his strength, explosiveness, and speed had all increased, he realized there was really something to it.
The sounds of Su Xi striking the Wooden Man Target grew louder and more rapid. He accelerated continuously, running through the forms sixteen times before finally throwing an Inch Fist... CRACK!
He snapped one of the wooden arms clean off.
"Whoa!!!"
Applause and shouts of admiration erupted behind him.
Su Xi turned to see a formidable-looking old woman and a burly man who looked like an older version of Artest standing behind him.
