Chapter 217: Chapter 34: A Super Talent for Blundering into Success

The sheer number of women screaming in the arena made one thing crystal clear: tonight wasn’t just about basketball.

TNT’s broadcast booth was packed with talent: Magic Johnson, Steve Kerr, Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith, and Earl Johnson. Their broadcast table was set up right in the Staples Center, and during the break before the Western Conference All-Stars were introduced, TNT played a clip of their staff selecting a male donkey in Nevada.

During halftime of tonight’s game, TNT would be leading that hand-picked, magnificent male donkey into the Staples Center.

Kenny Smith would fulfill his end of the bet in a media room inside. When the time came, TNT would broadcast it live across America and the world, and they would even invite Su Xi to witness it in person.

Kenny hadn’t been able to eat since noon. His spirits were low. He was like a freshly castrated donkey, completely devoid of enthusiasm for anything.

But it didn’t matter. Just having him sit there was already great for the ratings.

The Western Conference All-Stars soon made their entrance one by one. Although Shaquille O’Neal hadn’t been voted a starting center for two years in a row, the cheers were loudest when he appeared.

The big fella had both on-court dominance and a great sense of showmanship. He was well-loved, and everyone was looking forward to him pulling a stunt at the All-Star Game.

Today, he didn’t forget his ’mission’. He trotted over to Scarlett’s side, and under the watchful eyes of all the media cameras, he pulled up his jersey. Underneath was a white T-shirt with the words: "LONG LIVE SJ!"

The cameras zoomed in for a close-up of his T-shirt, and the entire Staples Center erupted.

O’Neal really knew how to play to the crowd. Who would have thought that this big and brawny guy was an SJ fan?

Thanks to his stunt, the atmosphere in the Staples Center grew even more heated.

TWEEET!

The whistle blew, and the game began.

The starting lineup for the Eastern Conference Team was: Su Xi, Iverson, Vince Carter, Little O’Neal, and Ben Wallace.

The Western Conference All-Stars starters were: Francis, Kobe, Garnett, Duncan, and Yao Ming.

Yao Ming easily won the opening tip-off against Ben Wallace. Francis brought the ball past half-court, quickly drove to the basket, and ignited the crowd with a helicopter dunk.

Neither side was putting any effort into defense.

Everyone was just there to have fun.

Su Xi brought the ball into the frontcourt, suddenly recalling the ghost-like passes from Magic Johnson’s highlight reels. He whipped a bounce pass toward the paint, but with a little too much force... He had intended to pass to Little O’Neal, but as the ball bounced high, Vince Carter flashed into the lane, leaped up, caught the ball in mid-air, and finished with an elegant reverse dunk.

This incredible play made the Staples Center instantly go wild.

Everyone was stunned.

They were stunned by both the creativity of Su Xi’s pass and the perfection of Vince Carter’s finish.

"That’s definitely one of the most beautiful and creative passes in All-Star history! Who would’ve thought that the normally conservative and cautious Jack had such a wild imagination?" said Charles Barkley. "That court vision is incredible! How did he do that? How did he see Carter behind Garnett? How did he track Carter’s movement?" 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Barkley was dumbfounded.

If he knew that Su Xi was originally just trying to show off with a pass to Little O’Neal behind Duncan, it would have easily answered all his questions. Su Xi had put too much power into it, and the trajectory was off.

In a way, he was trying to take a small step, but accidentally took a giant leap.

As the roar of the crowd reached a crescendo and Vince Carter pointed a finger at him, Su Xi gave a sheepish smile.

It was a happy accident.

"Jack’s pass was brilliant. It’s the highest level of passing. The basketball was like a signal flare he sent out, showing Vince Carter the way. This play, whether in its creativity, its power, or its angle... was impeccable. From a showmanship perspective, it was absolutely perfect."

Magic Johnson offered his ’professional analysis’. "I never knew Jack was so talented at passing. I always thought he was a very conservative point guard."

Coming from someone of his legendary status, that was the final word on the matter.

The game continued.

Kobe Bryant drove to the basket and threw down a dunk.

On the other end, Su Xi brought the ball up and attacked the paint. He had a sudden whim while on the move: he wanted to pull off an amazing play with a cutting Iverson, just like one of Magic Johnson’s signature no-look passes.

He even deliberately glanced at Iverson first, then turned his head away and whipped the ball behind him.

After Su Xi threw the pass, he looked up and saw Iverson standing right in front of him.

’Where’s the ball?’

While Su Xi was still confused, Vince Carter caught the ball in the corner, behind the three-point line, and took the shot!

SWISH!

The three-pointer went in.

ROAR!

The crowd erupted in screams again.

Su Xi’s incredible no-look pass went straight through the crowd of players to a wide-open Vince Carter in the corner.

"God! How did he do that?"

Charles Barkley found it mind-boggling. "How did he see Vince Carter lying in wait in the corner?"

"I love that behind-the-neck pass. It requires incredible touch. The precision of that pass is like being triple-teamed, finding the only sliver of daylight, and still managing to get off a successful shot before you land," Magic described. "Even in an All-Star Game, the fact that Jack dared to use a move like that proves he has an exceptionally unique and precise control over his passing."

Well... Magic certainly was a professional.
