The Billionaire's New Wife in Chief
Chapter 1098 - 483: Too Many Unresolved Issues Between Lu Jingchen and Me
Feeling Song Qiao’s response, Lu Jingchen seemed to pause for just a moment, then excitedly deepened the kiss, and the temperature in the study immediately soared again.
Song Qiao didn’t expect Lu Jingchen to be so unsettled; he pressed her directly onto the desk, and one hand started exploring from beneath her hem.
...
Meanwhile, in the living room downstairs, Ning Wan sat on the sofa, scanning the surroundings. She felt both familiar and strange in this villa, as over five years had passed since her last visit. Unexpectedly, after Qiaoqiao left, Lu Jingchen kept the villa almost unchanged from the time when Qiaoqiao departed.
The image of Xi Mohan’s villa suddenly appeared in her mind. She felt incredibly unfamiliar with it now; it no longer looked the way it did when she left. The furniture and decor clearly had been replaced.
Her mind flashed back to the conversation she overheard between the maids this morning, and she quickly searched for her phone, realizing she didn’t have it with her. She remembered she didn’t take her phone when leaving Xi Mohan’s villa, and she wasn’t sure if Xi Mohan had taken it when he brought her here.
Her gaze fell on the phone beside her as Song Qiao cautiously moved to the sofa’s edge and picked up the receiver to dial a number.
The phone rang a few times before someone picked up, and a man with a somewhat wary voice answered, "Hello, who is this?"
Recognizing the voice, Ning Wan didn’t relax but urgently said into the phone, "Yichen, it’s me..."
"Sis?" On the other end, Ning Yichen responded with urgency, "Sis, where are you now? I called you last night. Why didn’t you pick up? Is something wrong?"
Ning Wan bit her lip, deciding not to tell him about her encounter with Xi Mohan.
Ning Yichen was her brother, but not by blood. Their parents only gave birth to Ning Wan, adopting Ning Yichen from the orphanage because Ning Wan had no one willing to play with her in the Ning family. Ning Yan’er had been at odds with her since childhood, constantly finding fault with Ning Wan.
The other kids in the Ning family her age all followed Ning Yan’er’s lead, essentially ostracizing Ning Wan whenever Ning Yan’er disapproved of her.
Even without Ning Wan telling Ning father and Ning mother, they knew she wasn’t included, leading them to adopt Ning Yichen.
Sitting beside her, with her back against the sofa, Ning Wan said, "I didn’t have my phone with me yesterday, that’s why I missed your call. I’m sorry for worrying you."
"Sis, I’m fine," Ning Yichen’s voice came from somewhere with a hint of hushed tones, "I just thought something might’ve happened to you."
The siblings were silent for a while before Ning Yichen asked worriedly, "Sis, you haven’t run into that man, have you?"
"No."
They chatted for a bit longer before finally hanging up.
Only after ending the call did Ning Wan finally sigh in relief. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
...
Half an hour later, Lu Jingchen and Song Qiao came downstairs. Ning Wan sat on the sofa, watching them descend from the second floor. When Song Qiao approached, she noticed a blush of shyness on her face.
Ning Wan, recalling her own experiences with Xi Mohan, immediately recognized that something must have happened between Song Qiao and Lu Jingchen.
A knowing smile crossed her face as Song Qiao sat beside her, and she leaned in, whispering with a hint of teasing, "All smoothed over?"
Lu Jingchen headed for the kitchen, presumably to check if lunch was ready.
So, in the living room, only Song Qiao and Ning Wan remained.
Hearing Ning Wan’s words, Song Qiao’s face flushed even more, as she raised a hand to touch her cheek, "Am I that obvious?"
Ning Wan’s smile deepened, her voice gentle, "Don’t forget, I’ve been through this. Others might not see it, but I certainly do."
Initially, Ning Wan disapproved of Lu Jingchen, especially after Song Qiao left and they went through so much. When Qiaoqiao was abroad giving birth, she almost died in surgery, increasing Ning Wan’s prejudice against Lu Jingchen.
But now, Ning Wan could see how deeply Lu Jingchen loved Qiaoqiao, the kind of devotion that couldn’t just be feigned.
Having been through so much with Xi Mohan, she understood people’s emotions more clearly than most.
Just like between Qiaoqiao and Lu Jingchen.
Lu Jingchen stayed home for lunch before heading to the company, while Gu Xiyan’s scenes were entering the final phase. These days she had no scenes since the male lead was entangled with enemies, so Gu Xiyan didn’t need to be at the set, leaving Song Qiao free as well.
Song Qiao realized that although she remained as Xiyan’s agent after returning to the country, she hadn’t taken proper care of Gu Xiyan due to her own issues, leaving most work to Gu Xiyan’s assistant.
Just occasionally logging into emails at night, checking for any roles suitable for Gu Xiyan, and taking them on.
Song Qiao thought that she was probably the most relaxed agent in the world.
Ning Wan didn’t get a proper rest at Xi Mohan’s place, so after having lunch, she went into the bedroom with Song Qiao for a nap.
It was the first time since Song Qiao’s marriage that the two best friends shared a bed. Previously, before Song Qiao married Lu Jingchen, they often slept in the same bed, shared the same blanket, wore the same pajamas, chatted together until they got sleepy and then fell asleep.
Ning Wan lay on the bed, her hands resting on her chest over the blanket, and she asked, "Qiaoqiao, will you leave An City again?"
The curtains in the room were pulled up, and the heavy blackout curtains made the room a bit dark.
Song Qiao, in the same position as Ning Wan, looked at the ceiling and thought for a moment, saying, "I probably won’t leave again..."
She didn’t give a very confident answer, using probably instead.
Ning Wan realized what she meant, tilted her head to look at her with a bit of confusion and asked, "Why say probably? Are you planning to leave again?"
Now seeing Lu Jingchen and Qiaoqiao back together, as good as new, she didn’t understand why she would say this.
Could it be that Qiaoqiao hasn’t forgiven Lu Jingchen?
But... she didn’t feel that Qiaoqiao hadn’t forgiven Lu Jingchen.
Song Qiao thought for a moment, and after a dozen seconds of silence, she slowly spoke, "Wanwan, it’s not that simple between him and me. We have too many things that haven’t been resolved, and we don’t even know what might happen in the future. Furthermore... I’m not sure if Lu Jingchen will always love me..."
Growing up without maternal love and lacking a sense of security, even her love life became something she started to doubt.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t have taken so many wrong turns with Lu Jingchen before; most of the reasons were because she herself felt too insecure, too afraid to take those steps courageously.
Ning Wan heard Song Qiao’s words and fell silent.
She understood Qiaoqiao’s character.
...
Inside Bishui Bay Villa District.
Tan Shuya sat on the sofa in the living room on the first floor, her expression extremely gloomy.
Since meeting with Song Qiao, Tan Shuya couldn’t control her emotions. For the first time, she felt a direct sense of crisis coming at her.
Song Qiao was definitely the biggest obstacle between her and Lu Jingchen. With Song Qiao around, she probably would never be able to obtain what she wanted through Lu Jingchen.
Thinking of this, Tan Shuya felt a surge of temptation to hire a hitman to kill Song Qiao.
But calming down later, she could only think about it.
A servant came in from outside, walked directly to Tan Shuya, and said, "Miss Tan, Doctor Jiang is here."
Tan Shuya came back to her senses and looked at the servant, slightly furrowing her brows in displeasure as she had been disturbed. However, upon hearing that Jiang Yingjie was there, she simply said, "Invite him in."
The servant seemed a bit afraid of Tan Shuya, responding timidly before retreating.
Jiang Yingjie, wearing a white coat and holding a medicine box, walked in directly. Tan Shuya instructed the servant to brew a cup of tea and then asked her to leave, "Do not disturb us unless I ask."
The servant immediately responded and then retreated.
Jiang Yingjie sat opposite Tan Shuya, picked up the cup of tea in front of him, blew on it, took a sip, and then looked at her, a gentle smile on his face, and asked, "You don’t look very well. Has something happened?"
Tan Shuya trusted Jiang Yingjie, so she didn’t hide anything, bit her lip, and said, "Song Qiao is back."
Jiang Yingjie was surprised and instinctively asked, "You’ve seen her too?"
Tan Shuya immediately caught the key point in Jiang Yingjie’s words, suddenly lifting her head to look at him, "You’ve met Song Qiao before?"
Faced with Tan Shuya’s questioning, he remained unfazed, his expression calm and serene, speaking slowly, "On the day you were hospitalized, I went to the restaurant to pack lunch for you and saw a woman with Lu Jingchen, though I don’t know if she’s the legendary Mrs. Lu..."
