Episode 9 - World of Dreams [2]

─────────────────────────────────

When she opened her eyes, Lumina was greeted by a vibrant array of colors in the sky.

The scene featured tranquil, floating clouds and a multitude of geometric shapes suspended throughout the sky.

Additionally, the presence of multiple moons was striking; although there was no sunlight, the environment appeared to be illuminated as if it were daytime.

She then surveyed her surroundings; the location was difficult to describe.

The landscape was characterized by a variety of tree species, each with unique coloring. The islands were interspersed with bodies of water that appeared to defy the laws of gravity.

Butterflies fluttered, along with strange little animals that would frighten anyone.

Some escalators appeared to be stationary and not leading to any specific destination, as well as photographs suspended in various locations.

There were a multitude of peculiar and seemingly incongruous elements.

’I consider myself fortunate to be working in a territory owned by the Specters of Dream.’

The scene before her was, in the best of circumstances, the most typical of the World of Dreams for any individual.

However, once you left this area, you encountered phenomena that defied verbal description.

Lumina observed a structure reminiscent of a palace, inhabited by numerous Specters of Dream.

Adel is being guided by some of the Specters of Dream who had previously communicated with him in the physical world.

At that precise moment, two Specters of Dream that Lumina had previously encountered materialized before her, hovering in the form of diminutive spherical entities with minute extremities.

"Excuse me, do you think this human is acting normally?"

"Yes, it is not uncommon for humans and other races to behave in an unusual manner when they first enter."

The Specters of Dream viewed Lumina as a high-quality product.

Lumina exchanged a glance with the Specter and gave them some thought.

’Although they may look like this, they are extremely powerful beings in the World of Dreams.’

In reality, they were nothing compared to the World of Dreams.

Their powers were restricted by the laws of reality.

’Fortunately, this is a place where everything you dream becomes reality.’

Of course, since they were not native inhabitants of the World of Dreams, there were limits to certain things.

For example, if you dream of being a God, that dream would not come true.

’In short, there is a limit for me.’

At that moment, she could only dream of making her power as an 8-Star a reality.

’Even a 10-Star could easily die here.’

There’s no such thing as an 11-star, but Lumina could probably die just as easily.

In any case, Lumina dreamed of the moment she would reach 8 stars.

Then, her body underwent a strange change.

Her strength and mana increased exponentially.

Seeing this, the Specters of Dream smiled.

"Look at that. It seems this human is having a little fun."

"Yes, she’s become quite strong."

To the Specters of Dream, it was entertaining, but to Lumina or anyone else who entered the World of Dreams...

It was something they would never understand.

’It’s amazing what you can do here.’

But her thoughts soon changed.

’Even so, I’m still just a nobody here.’

Who knows, maybe some evil god’s dream might even appear.

The very thought of it made Lumina’s body tremble.

’All right, it’s time to get moving.’

***

’This place is absurd.’

The Specters of Dream explained to me what I can do here.

So, I tried it, and it really worked.

I dreamed of being able to see and of the Eyes of the End not activating.

Then I removed the blindfold and looked at the strange World of Dreams.

I didn’t know how to describe what this place looked like.

’Is it like this because all dreams exist here, or is it because a map was never created?’

In the Holy Land, there was no map of the World of Dreams.

Naturally, reality created it in the image of many dreams.

And that’s probably why it looks like this.

The Specters of Dream told me that this place might be the most "normal" for me out of the entire World of Dreams.

I didn’t know exactly what they were referring to, but I simply nodded without saying anything.

’No matter how many times I see it, this place makes no sense.’

It was strange, so strange that it was impossible to describe.

I wasn’t afraid, though, since fear is an emotion, and emotions hardly affect me.

Instinctively, I knew that anyone would be horrified to see the tiny creatures walking around.

’I feel chills running down my spine.’

The sky was like a rainbow, but the color pink predominated.

The geometric figures probably represented the people who try to explain the World of Dreams through mathematics.

Soon, the Specters of Dream took me to a palace of some sort. I didn’t know exactly what it was, as the structure was very strange.

But it looked almost exactly like a palace.

"A human, yes, look, look, it’s a human."

"Oh, it’s been so long since we’ve seen a human around here."

"Yes, yes, I think the older sister had said that a human known as the Lady of the Beasts had come here."

"I didn’t know that."

"Yes, it seems that humans nowadays know her as the creator of the Invocation specialty."

I clearly heard murmurs, and my eyes couldn’t help but open.

’What did she say? The Lady of the Beasts came here.’

It was a shocking revelation, completely unexpected.

But it was also strange.

The Lady of the Beasts came here.

The Eight Firstborn, however, disappeared overnight.

What if they actually only went to the World of Dreams?

"They could do anything. I doubt the Lady of the Beasts came here looking for something."

After all, they were the creators of the eight current Specialties.

Naturally, they could do anything.

Some suspect that they are the gods that humans worship today.

’Well, I don’t even know if that’s true.’

After some time, the Specters of Dream took me to a large room.

Once on the other side, the Specters of Dream said before leaving:

"The Older Sister wants to speak with you before the trial begins."

"Yes, yes, the older sister will see you."

"See you later, human."

The Specters of Dreams turned around and soon disappeared.

I waved goodbye to them, then turned around.

The place seemed empty and silent.

There was no one there, but as I was lost in my thoughts,

A voice reached my ears.

It was soft, yet so soothing that it almost made me fall asleep, even while I was in the World of Dreams.

"It’s a pleasure to meet you in person, human."

I turned my head in the direction from which the voice came.

When I looked at the Specter of Dreams in front of me, I could clearly see the differences.

Its body was more humanoid, like that of a small child; its arms and legs were longer, and of course, it was still hairy.

Its eyes were the same, but its horn was longer.

While the others looked like balls of fur, the one in front of me looked like a girl.

"You’re the one they call older Sister."

"Yeah, well, those fools prefer to call me that, but I’m the Queen of this area."

Instantly, my expression faltered, and I couldn’t help but show my surprise.

’A queen, a queen of the Specters of Dream.’

It was literally such a surreal event.

I knew there was a leader in each group of Specters of Dream.

Also known as kings or queens, they maintained order in the groups.

Without them, all the Specters of Dream would simply play or do whatever they wanted.

Of course, they still do silly things, but they maintain certain limits and order among themselves.

And standing before me was a queen of this race.

’She really stands out from the rest. And for good reason, she’s a queen.’

"Yes, isn’t it? I’m different from those fools."

"Did she read my mind?"

The queen smiled and said.

"Nothing is impossible before me, human."

I suppose she’s right. In theory, the Specters of Dream have great control over the rules of the World of Dreams.

And, above all, their queen; she is literally like a god, so in theory I have a god in front of me.

Interestingly, kings and queens are the only ones who cannot leave the World of Dreams.

’That would be like a god descending to the real world.’

The queen looked at me intently, smiling.

"You have a lot on your mind, don’t you?"

I scratched my head, smiling awkwardly.

She was actually reading my thoughts every chance she had.

"Well, everyone in the real world thinks a lot, don’t they?"

"Well, that’s true."

I sighed heavily as the queen turned around; then, out of nowhere, a table and two chairs appeared.

On the table were sandwiches and a cup of coffee.

’Read memories?’

As if to confirm it, the queen said.

"I don’t read memories, but I can see what you like most about yourself."

My expression faltered for a moment, but I quickly recovered.

Then I sat in the chair and took a sandwich.

At the Academy, anyone would say I’m addicted to sandwiches and coffee.

The queen smiled even more and said,

"It seems one of your friends is right, huh?"

"Cough...!!!"

I coughed, keeping my composure; she really could know everything about me.

Then I finally asked her why she wanted to see me.

"So, why do you want to talk to me?"

She paused briefly before saying,

"It’s about your soul. As you know, our race can see the soul, but since I am queen, I can see deeper into the soul."

I raised an eyebrow and asked.

"Then, what did you see in my soul?"

I already knew what she would say, or so I thought.

"Even for me it’s difficult, but... I see three faces in your soul."

"What..."

The sandwich I was holding in my hand fell onto the plate at her words. At that very moment, I heard a scream from outside.
