The CEO's Wife Is a Medical Master
Chapter 299: Provoking Public Anger
Rona Langdon’s words undoubtedly triggered a new round of attacks. A few hot-blooded young men were itching to come forward and give her a beating.
Aaron Cheney was grinding his teeth, desperately holding back. All Vera Xavier had to do was give him the signal, and he would immediately lead the others in giving this venomous woman a brutal beating!
By now, Grandma had seen Rona Langdon’s cold-hearted selfishness for what it was. She slowly stood up and said, "You claim our Preston Family has treated you unfairly. So tell me, how exactly have we done that?"
Rona Langdon’s greatest talent was making irrational arguments; asking her to reason logically was a lost cause. Besides, Zachary Preston had given her his entire salary all these years—and it was a good one. If she dared to claim that what he earned wasn’t enough for her, the onlookers would likely drown her in spit on the spot!
Grandma said coldly, "You can’t answer, can you? That’s because our family has never treated you unfairly. After what you’ve done, the Preston Family has no place for you. This apartment was assigned by Zachary’s work unit. And even though we paid to buy it outright the year before last, it’s still his. Now take your bankbook and get the hell out!"
Grandma had been a force to be reckoned with in her youth, and as she stood there speaking, she radiated an imposing and powerful aura.
Vera gave her grandma a mental thumbs-up, then shouted at Rona Langdon, "You’re no mother of mine! I’m staying with Dad!"
Grandma Dixon shouted as well, "Rona Langdon, get out of the compound! You’re not welcome here!" 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
The other neighbors, long since enraged by her behavior, joined in the shouting. "Get out!"
Rona Langdon had it all figured out: she would get the apartment, the furniture, the appliances—everything in the house. She had already planned all sorts of ways to throw a fit and was ready to pull out her whole bag of tricks to get what she wanted. She just never expected things to go this far!
It suddenly dawned on her. While she and Grandma were arguing, Vera Xavier had barely spoken. But every word she did say had been a critical jab, goading Rona into revealing her true intentions and inciting the fury of the crowd.
Of course, she didn’t want to leave. After shooting Vera Xavier a vicious glare, she turned to Theresa Goodman. "Director Goodman, you see how they’re ganging up on me, don’t you? You’re the head of the Women’s Federation! You have to stand up for me!"
Theresa Goodman was inwardly disgusted. She replied coldly, "I really can’t help you with this. If you intend to divorce Preston, I also agree that the apartment should go to him."
Vera Xavier said slowly, "If you won’t accept that, I’ll support Dad in taking you to court. He’s gravely ill and might be paralyzed and need full-time care for the rest of his life. If it comes to that, the court will certainly award the apartment to him!"
Rona Langdon had always been greedy, but with her limited education, she hadn’t thought things through. It was now clear that she wouldn’t be getting anything out of this situation at all.
She shrieked, "I’m not leaving! This apartment is mine!"
Vera Xavier shot Aaron Cheney a meaningful glance. He got the message immediately. Turning to a few other young men, he declared, "This woman is utterly devoid of conscience! She doesn’t deserve to live in our compound. Let’s throw her out!"
His cry was met with immediate support from the entire crowd. A few strong young men grabbed Rona Langdon’s arms and legs, lifted her up, and unceremoniously tossed her out of the compound.
They had been bottling up their anger for a while and showed no mercy. They couldn’t outright punch her, but they made sure to pinch and twist her flesh as they grabbed her. Someone even grabbed her already broken hand and twisted it, re-breaking the bone that had just been set.
