Cara Preston was startled again and quickly asked, "Mom, what happened?"

"That wretched Vera Xavier brought your grandmother over to make trouble for me today," Rona Langdon said coldly. "I’ve decided to divorce your father. All these years, he’s earned nothing but a pittance, yet he still dared to hide a secret stash of money from me. He yells at me every single day. I’ve been wanting to leave him for a long time! Let whoever likes him so much take care of him."

Cara Preston figured out what her mother was getting at and quickly said, "Dad always treated Vera the best. Let her be the one to take care of him!"

Rona Langdon sneered. "It’s a shame the house was left to them. They’re getting off way too easy!"

Although Cara Preston was vicious herself, she felt a flicker of contempt at her mother’s words. ’In her view, other than siding with Vera after she returned, Zachary Preston was actually a decent man.’

’Rona was incredibly lazy. All she ever did was play mahjong and have fun, always competing with others over food and clothes. She barely lifted a finger around the house. Meanwhile, he was busy first with work and then with chores at home, never getting a moment of rest.’

Of course, Cara would never say any of this to Rona’s face. ’And now that Zachary Preston has no job and no money, and his medical treatments are going to cost a fortune, I’m not stupid enough to stick with him and suffer.’

When the mother-daughter pair returned to the Langdon residence, Rona’s mother, Patricia Thompson, saw them arrive. Noticing they came empty-handed, she frowned and asked, "Why are you back again?"

’Rona has been getting so stingy lately,’ Patricia thought. ’This is the second time in a row she’s come home without bringing anything. Doesn’t she realize I’m getting old and there are a lot of mouths to feed in this house?’

Rona said to Patricia, "I have something important to announce. Get Jason and Taylor to come back."

Patricia shot her a glance before reluctantly going to call Jason and Taylor Langdon back home.

Jason Langdon butchered pigs in The West Market, and Taylor Langdon butchered sheep in the East Market. It was nearly noon, so business was slow. Patricia sent a few of the younger kids to fetch them, and they returned a short while later.

Rona didn’t hide anything, recounting everything that had happened that day. Patricia immediately slammed her hand on the table. "The Preston Family is going too far, bullying my daughter like this! They want to divorce her but won’t even give her the house? In their dreams!"

Jason Langdon immediately chimed in, "Exactly! How can they not give you the house, Sis? That house is rightfully yours. You have to get it back!"

Taylor Langdon was more mild-mannered and said softly, "But Brother-in-law had a cerebral hemorrhage. It wouldn’t be right for him to come home from the hospital with nowhere to live, would it?"

Patricia immediately jabbed a finger at his forehead and snapped, "You useless fool! He’s dumping your sister, and you’re still calling him ’Brother-in-law’?"

Taylor Langdon didn’t dare say another word. Rona thought for a moment, then said, "We are definitely getting that house back. But their compound has guards, so it’s not easy to get in. Besides, they aren’t home anyway. How about this: tomorrow, we’ll get our older sisters and their husbands and go raise a scene at the hospital!"

Jason Langdon and Patricia Thompson immediately agreed, and just like that, the plan was settled.

Naturally, the commotion on their end didn’t escape Jack Judd’s notice, and the news soon reached Vera Xavier’s ears.

A cold smile touched Vera’s lips. "They’re truly shameless! So insatiably greedy."

’I thought after teaching Rona a lesson today, she’d know to quit while she was ahead. I can’t believe she still hasn’t given up.’
