The CEO's Wife Is a Medical Master
Chapter 323: Money from the Calligraphy
Vera Xavier’s gaze darkened. She knew that Rona Langdon accepting the money had been revealed.
Her grandparents and Zachary Preston had all been questioned separately. The main thing they had to explain was where the money for Zachary Preston’s medical treatment came from.
Upon her return, Vera Xavier was also immediately brought into an empty office at the hospital for questioning. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
Before the investigators could question her, Vera Xavier preemptively explained, "All the initial expenses after my dad was hospitalized were money I borrowed from Nathaniel Nathan. My mom wouldn’t provide any money for my dad’s treatment, and I was afraid my grandparents would also get sick from the stress, so I lied to my grandmother and told her that my dad had given me a passbook with a sum of money inside."
The two investigators exchanged a look and nodded lightly.
They proceeded to ask several key questions, all of which Vera Xavier answered truthfully.
This investigation was primarily focused on the source of the funds for Zachary Preston’s treatment, so the questioning naturally turned to the piece of calligraphy by Vincent Seymour. Vera Xavier stated plainly, "My dad’s medical treatment has so far cost a total of 57,862.2. Apart from what I initially borrowed from Nathaniel Nathan, the rest came from selling an ancestral calligraphy piece by Vincent Seymour."
"How much did the Vincent Seymour piece sell for? Who was it sold to? And when was it sold?" one of the investigators asked.
Vera Xavier replied, "It sold for a total of one hundred thousand. The buyer was the master carver, Mr. Quentin Sterling. I sold it to him a week ago, and the payment was settled on the spot. You can confirm this with Mr. Sterling."
The investigators exchanged a glance. Quentin Sterling was a renowned master carver in Crestfall with a substantial fortune; he could definitely afford such a sum.
The two of them nodded, deciding to go find Quentin Sterling.
Vera Xavier said softly, "I don’t know who bribed my dad, but according to the time of the alleged bribe you mentioned, he had already fallen ill and was in the hospital. He was unconscious, so it would have been impossible for him to accept any bribes. At that time, my grandparents and I were at the hospital. Only my mom was home."
Her grandparents had actually said the same thing, and the investigators were also fairly certain that Zachary Preston hadn’t been the one to take the money. But since the funds were linked to him, they had to conduct this routine investigation.
Besides, plenty of people at both the hospital and their compound could testify to the fact that Rona Langdon had initially refused to pay for Zachary Preston’s medical treatment.
The investigators looked at the well-behaved and lovely Vera Xavier before them. They had actually done their own investigation into Zachary Preston’s integrity and knew of his good character, so one of them reassured her, "We will investigate this matter thoroughly. We also believe in Mr. Preston."
After Vera Xavier saw them out, she immediately found Jack Judd, whispered a few words in his ear, and said, "Go to the police station and do exactly as I say."
As Jack Judd considered the entire affair from start to finish, he finally understood why Vera Xavier hadn’t let him touch that four hundred thousand. ’So this was the huge mess she knew was coming!’
’Vera Xavier had probably seen through this whole thing back then, made the most accurate judgment, and even dug a series of traps for Rona Langdon. This time, Rona Langdon was in for some serious misfortune!’
If he had been helping Vera Xavier before because of Nathaniel Nathan, he was now utterly and completely won over by her. ’This whole chain of events, this meticulous thinking, these ruthless methods... how could any of this be the work of a delicate, pampered eighteen-year-old girl?’
