The CEO's Wife Is a Medical Master
Chapter 326: Having Nothing
The moment Cara Preston jumped off the train, Rona Langdon was completely stunned. She had no idea why Cara would do such a thing!
But in that moment of stunned confusion, she failed to stop Cara Preston in time. The conductor had already closed the door and the train was pulling away. The bag that held all her hopes was now slung over Cara’s back.
Rona Langdon scrambled madly toward the door, screaming, "Stop the train! Stop the train!"
The conductor snapped, "The train is already moving. You think we’re going to stop for just one person?"
Her lunge also sent her kicking into a stout man standing nearby. The man roared, "What do you think you’re doing? Keep it up and I’ll punch you!"
That four hundred thousand was bribe money, and Rona Langdon was now a wanted fugitive. Even if she was ignorant of the law, she knew she absolutely could not go back now.
Despair washed over her. She stared through the glass of the train door at Cara Preston, who was still standing on the platform. She saw Cara looking back at her with a venomous, triumphant glint in her eyes. Cara mouthed three words. Rona could clearly read her lips. It was unmistakably, "Serves you right!"
Rona Langdon had always thought very highly of herself. She believed she had Cara Preston wrapped around her finger, that Cara had to obey her every word. But in that moment, she suddenly understood. Cara hadn’t been under her control for a long time. All her obedience and compliance had just been a perfunctory Blinding Technique to deceive her. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
She collapsed onto the floor and began to wail. She was divorced, her husband was gone, her house was gone, and her adopted daughter had taken all her money. She had nothing left!
The other passengers stared at her as if she were insane.
Cara Preston walked out of the train station with the heavy bag, a triumphant look she couldn’t hide in her eyes.
Three days ago, when Rona Langdon had gone out, Cara Preston knew she had withdrawn the money. But Rona kept a very close watch on it, and Cara never had a chance to get her hands on it.
When people from the procuratorate arrived today, Cara Preston paid extra close attention to Rona Langdon. She knew this was her last chance to get that four hundred thousand.
And that was what led to the scene at the train station. In truth, the police car parked in the square in front of the station was just a regular patrol car. It wasn’t there to arrest Rona Langdon at all. The only reason Rona had been so nervous was her own guilty conscience.
She knew that if she had actually gone with Rona Langdon, she would have eventually been forced to marry Maxwell Preston. ’I’m so exceptional, how could I marry a selfish idiot like Maxwell Preston!’
Regarding Zachary Preston and Rona Langdon’s divorce this time, Rona had called Maxwell Preston. That selfish, cold-hearted guy had actually said right over the phone, "What? Dad had a cerebral hemorrhage? Doesn’t that mean he’ll drag me down for the rest of my life? Mom, you need to divorce him right away! I’ll go with you!"
A man who treated his own father that way could never be expected to treat his wife well. In essence, Maxwell Preston’s cold-hearted nature was inherited directly from Rona Langdon—he was a true scumbag. ’If I end up with him, I’ll be miserable! I still have a bright future ahead of me!’
So she decided to help make sure the charges against Rona Langdon would stick.
So, the moment she left the train station, she headed straight for the police station. Before going inside, she slapped herself hard across the face several times, then pinched and twisted her arms until they were bruised and red. She entered the station sobbing. "My mom took a four-hundred-thousand-dollar bribe behind my dad’s back! When she was found out, she tried to run away with the money. I urged her to turn herself in, but instead, she gave me a brutal beating!"
