For this newfound suspicion in his mind, Liu Banxia is also completely clueless.
Because there are many variables involved in this matter; it could be influenced by the system, his own surgical skills, or even the patient's own physical condition.
No two patients are exactly alike; individual physical conditions differ, even with the same condition, there are only general similarities, with significant differences in details.
"Teacher Liu, a patient will be brought in shortly, suddenly fainted, and needs you to consult." Just half an hour after returning to the office, Li Hao came over.
"Another one fainted? Looks like I have a bond with fainting patients." Liu Banxia muttered.
"Teacher Liu, this time it's not a fake illness; it's genuine." Li Hao said.
"It's said his company was having a morning meeting, and while leading the meeting, he suddenly passed out with convulsions. I originally grabbed the consultation slot, but I'm not confident."
"That's fine, you consult, and I'll watch from the side." Liu Banxia nodded.
Liu Banxia did not find anything improper with Li Hao's mindset. The first taboo for a doctor is indeed pretentiousness.
Previously, he had this minor problem when competing with Qin Hai. Fortunately, he had the system backing him, so he got through it relatively safely.
But in regular consultations, if you are truly pretentious, you might delay the patient's treatment.
Fainting combined with convulsions already indicates the patient is at a certain risk, and poor handling might indeed cause delays.
As they stepped outside, everyone became very busy in just that moment. Patients sometimes tend to cluster, which might be related to timing.
After waiting a few more minutes, the emergency vehicle stopped at the door.
"The patient is 29 years old, male. Blood pressure is 80/120, heart rate is 120. After fainting, he had convulsions and is unconscious. Oxygen was administered in the ambulance." said the paramedic, pushing the stretcher.
"Let's send him to rescue room three first, are there any family medical histories or genetic disorders?" Li Hao asked.
The paramedic shook his head, "His colleagues are unaware, the patient hasn't woken up in the ambulance; their company is contacting the family."
Li Hao nodded.
"One, two, three, transfer the bed. Connect the ECG, I'll examine him first."
After reaching rescue room three, Li Hao said.
Liu Banxia moved back a little to provide space for others to operate.
"Dr. Li, blood pressure is 80/120, heart rate is 110, blood oxygen is 93." The nurse completing the ECG hurriedly reported.
Li Hao nodded and carefully auscultated the patient's heart and lung functions.
"Auscultation reveals coarse lung sounds, complete blood count, blood biochemical testing, arterial blood gas analysis, ECG, echocardiogram. Hmm... let's also schedule a head CT." Following the auscultation, Li Hao said and then looked at Liu Banxia.
Liu Banxia walked forward, lifted the patient's oxygen mask, raised his chin, and thoroughly checked the oral cavity.
Li Hao's forehead tightened; he actually forgot to check the airways.
"Alright, let's follow Dr. Li's arrangements then." Liu Banxia nodded.
"Teacher Liu, I messed up." Li Hao said with a bitter face.
"This belongs to the edge of mistakes in a frantic attempt; emergency personnel may not always be able to describe all of the patient's symptoms." Liu Banxia said.
"I've been on ambulance duty as well; the priority of the accompanying doctor is to stabilize the patient's vital signs and administer emergency care. However, the equipment in the ambulance is limited and time is crucial, so omissions can occur."
"After all, since convulsions have occurred, even if the paramedic clearly states there were no foreign objects in the mouth and nose at the time, we still need to check after coming over."
"Chat with the patient's colleagues later, those who came by ambulance should at least know some things. Overall, this consultation was quite good, just one minor mistake."
"If you were to score this emergency consultation, on a hundred-point scale, it would reach eighty. Regardless of others' opinions, that's my score; any objections?"
Li Hao quickly shook his head; definitely not, and dared not either.
Airway checks are extremely important, especially for fire victims, seizure patients, and convulsion patients; neglect of this check can often result in major incidents.
Chen Dongmei, learning alongside Li Hao, also felt her heart racing; Teacher Liu's demands are really high. Such a minor mistake resulted in a twenty-point deduction, so if it were bigger, wouldn't it be a failing grade?
"Teacher Li, is Teacher Liu always this strict?" After Liu Banxia left, Chen Dongmei asked.
Li Hao took off his mask, "It's all because you're here, giving me face. I'm actually a bit nervous inside, constantly pondering whether to inject sedatives into the patient, and then I forgot to check the airway."
"But the patient's breathing is fine through the oxygen mask." Chen Dongmei said.
"Seeing is one thing, checking is another." Li Hao said.
"The five elements of on-site first aid, DRABC. This is what Teacher Liu repeatedly emphasizes. First is to determine whether rescuing will bring us danger. For example, on the highway or the busier traffic lanes."
"Then it's observing the patient's reaction and giving a reasonable judgment. The following ABC is to check airway, breathing, and perform CPR."
"Here, it's pretty much the same, except we don't need to consider the level of danger. Just assess based on the patient's response and symptoms."
"But when it comes to the airway, many times we need to be extra cautious. For example, some trauma patients might have breathing difficulties, so airway checks are indispensable."
"Back to this patient, I was struggling with whether to administer the sedative. The patient clearly reacted with tachycardia, but compared to the heart rate reported by the paramedic, it's already decreased, so I didn't use it."
"But now the patient's blood oxygen is still somewhat low, so besides the routine and biochemical blood tests, I added an arterial blood gas analysis."
"However, this patient's situation is still unclear, it could be caused by some brain lesions. So I added a CT scan, and according to Teacher Liu's reaction, all the necessary exams have been done."
"My God, it's giving me a headache. I've been an intern for a long time, but sometimes I'm still a bit confused." Chen Dongmei said with a sigh.
"It's not that complex actually, often it's just a matter of habit." Li Hao said with a smile.
"By the way, you can take some time with your teammates to create simulation cases for each other. We've got so many emergency patients in the emergency center, just tweak them a bit, and you can quiz each other for fun."
"That's how we used to do it, and things are better for you guys now. Back then, when we admitted patients with Dr. Liu, we'd get asked directly on the spot. But don't get too pleased too soon, a month or two as a transition period is the maximum."
"Be mentally prepared, if you want to learn real skills, it requires real effort. Everyone says Teacher Liu learns fast, but actually, he never stopped learning. Whether it's studying patient charts, contemplating surgical techniques, or practicing hand operations."
"Talking behind my back?" Liu Banxia's voice suddenly floated over.
"No, not at all, I was just explaining learning strategies to her." Li Hao quickly said.
"We're in the emergency center, where many patients need urgent care. So they need quick response times and fast learning speeds."
Liu Banxia nodded, "That's better; don't just focus on your own learning, but also think about guiding them. You guys also need to adapt to the change in roles, since you are proper resident doctors now."
"Mentoring the new has always been a great tradition, with many benefits. Teach your apprentices well, and you won't worry about starving. Look how relaxed I am now, keep at it."
After finishing, Liu Banxia strolled leisurely over to Wang Chao.
"See, you have to slowly get used to Teacher Liu's style." Li Hao said.
"Actually, Teacher Liu's assessments are everywhere, Liu Yiqing and Xu Yino often get scolded, but they are both resilient, and they are the fastest growing among us six."
Chen Hongmei nodded, indeed feeling greater pressure.
The internship life here can already be foreseen to be tough, and now it feels even tougher.
Liu Banxia leaned next to Wang Chao and peeked to see; Wang Chao was looking at the patient data statistics for the fecal transplant project.
"How's it going? Overall effects still have some merit, right?" Liu Banxia asked.
Wang Chao nodded with a smile, "Maybe our donor quality is pretty good; although there were some relapses in the beginning, it's still quite effective."
"Look at this patient with the gut fermentation syndrome, the effect has improved since the last check. There's indeed some efficacy here."
"The only downside is the bacterial populations in the gut are too many; it's really tough tracking which one is working."
"Everyone's gut microbiota varies significantly; this is going to be a long-term project. I estimate that it might be out of reach in my lifetime, except to work more on probiotics."
"Why think so much? As long as it's effective, that's all that matters." Liu Banxia said.
"Did you just criticize Li Hao again? Isn't he pretty excellent now?" Wang Chao asked.
"It's actually to help them adapt to the change in roles; they are now in a position to help teach students. Learning while teaching is the mark of a good colleague." Liu Banxia stated.
"No wonder you were talking so much during surgery yesterday, considering all this." Wang Chao said.
"What else can I do? I'm still a big kid, and all these responsibilities have come down on me." Liu Banxia shrugged.
Wang Chao didn't bother with him anymore and continued to focus on his data analysis.
