The Enhanced Doctor
Chapter 880: Liu Banxia’s Influence
Happy times always pass quickly. Although Liu Banxia only caught the latter half of the day, he genuinely had a great time.
To be precise, it seems like since he officially started working at the Second Hospital, he hasn't been this relaxed, so carefree, just indulging in food and fun.
After a great meal, he enjoyed a comforting bath. In the afternoon, everyone took a stroll, and by dinner time, they reached Jinbao.
After feasting again, they finally headed home.
That wasn't the end. Back home, Tang Dou's four pups became Liu Banxia's little furry toys. Their chubby little selves let him play and squeeze as he pleased, they were just so much fun.
The day's break passed without a care, yet it was fulfilling.
Early the next morning, Liu Banxia was brimming with energy as he drove to work.
It's definitely not good to always be in a tense state. Even if it was just half a day of fun, Liu Banxia felt as if he had a mini holiday.
"Teacher Liu, yesterday's biopsy results did show fat accumulation. But we still need to wait for the genetic testing results for a final diagnosis."
Seeing Liu Banxia walk in, Miao Rui quickly ran over.
Liu Banxia nodded with a smile, "Looks like I guessed right. At least this ordeal is over, he just needs to be a bit more careful in the future."
"Teacher Liu, how did you figure it out?" Miao Rui asked curiously.
"Hmm... a friend of mine got a leg cramp. Do you believe it?" Liu Banxia asked with a serious face.
Miao Rui was a bit dumbfounded. He had imagined many answers, but never expected it to be due to such a reason.
And then Liu Banxia added a "do you believe it," which was hard to believe. Leg cramps are quite common, how could it be linked to this patient's unique condition?
Liu Banxia patted his shoulder, "If I hadn't experienced it, I wouldn't believe it either. It just led from cramps to spasms, and then to the patient's shivering."
"I'll go change clothes first, then I'll ask you about the patients for whom I'll be the main surgeon. Sometimes broadening your thinking brings surprises."
After saying this, Liu Banxia strolled away with his hands behind his back.
Miao Rui was still a bit bewildered.
Relating cramps to spasms is one thing, but connecting spasms to shivering is really a stretch.
He felt that even if he had wings on his thoughts, he couldn't catch up with Liu Banxia's thinking speed.
The other interns gathered around, curious, and Miao Rui shared with them what Liu Banxia had said.
"That's the big demon king for you. There's nothing he can't do, only things we can't think of," Xu Yino commented.
"We have a TEM operation today. Guys, even though we can't participate hands-on, we can still watch. Hmm... I guess I got the patient's authorization, though it's not in the teaching surgery room."
"This is quite rare, considering she's a female patient," Huang Bo said.
"What do you guys think? Teacher Liu is aiming to tackle NOSES surgery, right? Just thinking about it gives me a headache. We can't expect to keep up with his pace—while we're walking, he's bouncing."
"Talking behind my back, where am I bouncing to?"
Liu Banxia's voice came from behind, startling Huang Bo.
"But your thinking is correct: haste makes waste. Especially with surgical operations, even with the same procedure, without the experience of ten surgeries, you've only just learned it."
"Teacher Liu, what about you? Many surgeries, you become familiar with after just one or two," Xu Yino said, sounding a bit aggrieved.
"What's this about? It's like I ate your snacks. You can't compare everything to me; I'm the big demon king. If I don't do something magical, how would it work?"
"How are those patients doing? Are there any that need special attention? How's the pre-op preparation for those who need surgery?"
"Teacher Liu, everything is fine, otherwise we would have told you earlier. Anesthesiologist is Teacher Li, the operating room is number 4, and equipment is already set up," Liu Yiqing replied.
"Rou is feeling a bit better mentally today, and her appetite has improved a lot. But the patient who overdosed on steroids is a bit worse off. Hmm... seems he's just noticed the shrinkage."
It's obvious what shrank, even as doctors, when not discussing with the patient, they need to be mindful of their words. Family members are often around, and misunderstandings can easily arise.
"That's his own doing. After a few days of recovery, have Teacher Wu conduct a detailed examination. Might be inflammation in the prostate or something, not completely treated yet," Liu Banxia said.
"Since there's nothing else, let's do the final reassurance work with the patients. As it involves the prone position, proceed with intubation. I'll explain the surgery details and techniques once inside."
Xu Yino nodded and quickly walked into the ward.
"You four need to stay alert. Even if you haven't been in this type of surgery before, you should have studied the relevant materials, right?" Liu Yiqing said, looking at the four interns.
The four of them nodded quickly.
"Then that's about it. Maybe the big boss will ask questions on the spot. But you never know, he never follows the rules." Liu Yiqing said.
The four nodded again, this was a must.
They'd been in surgeries with Liu Banxia more than once or twice, and every time it was a different experience. With other supervising doctors, there was a feeling of nervousness, but it was just that. With Liu Banxia on stage? They always felt like it was the last time.
The emergency center still had other work to do, so even the six interns couldn't all go on stage. Besides Xu Yino and Liu Yiqing, the last lucky one was Li Hao.
This was decided by drawing lots, purely based on luck.
Actually, TEM surgery is a single-person operation, and whether you're on stage or not makes no difference in learning value; you can learn entirely from surgical recordings.
But the atmosphere isn't the same, just like watching a game. Whether you're on-site or watching live on TV, or even just watching a replay, your mood is different.
"Actually, today Teacher Liu seems a bit more relaxed. If it were two days ago, there'd be a huge sense of pressure." Su Wenhao said.
"Wow, Old Su speaking up on his own, that's something." Miao Rui said.
"It's true, even being on stage with Teacher Liu before or being scolded by him didn't feel like that. Didn't you feel it?" Su Wenhao asked curiously.
The others nodded.
"It seems like when Teacher Liu stepped down as the director, I thought we'd finally get some respite." Liu Yiqing said.
"Why is it like this? Teacher Liu's teaching style hasn't changed; it's the same as before. Logically, we should be used to it by now, right?"
"It's not just you guys, even we feel some pressure." Wang Chao chimed in.
"Teacher Wang, really?" Liu Yiqing asked curiously.
"What's fake can't be true, and what's real is as real as gold and silver." Wang Chao said with a bitter smile.
"Back when he was the director, he was really busy, had a lot on his mind. Now that he doesn't have much to do, he watches over us closely. Who could escape his eye?"
"Don't look at how you guys still call me teacher; we're now on the same level, at most a titular director. I've known him with President Qi for quite a while, we've come a long way together, and now we're just watching him move further and further away. How can there be no pressure?"
"But this guy still has some humanity; he hasn't forgotten us. However, emotions do affect those around you. Especially since you guys are always learning from him, you'll naturally be influenced by his emotions."
"Don't worry, it's just a transition period. Once he adjusts, it'll be fine. He's still the same old unreliable guy as before. Don't be soft on him when you need to give him a hard time."
"He thinks highly of you guys. His temper has mellowed a lot now. In the past, geez... he was truly the big boss then."
"Hold on; it's almost over. Once he becomes the deputy director, he'll be responsible for more things, and then he won't have so much time."
"Haha, I thought I was a bit stupid, often being called out by Teacher Liu and getting such a feeling." Liu Yiqing said with a laugh.
"Don't think too much about it; being influenced by him is quite normal." Wang Chao said.
"When a person reaches a certain level, they naturally influence those around them. Since you're consistently learning from him, you're bound to be more influenced."
"Occasionally, you should learn from Xu Yino too, don't be afraid of him. As long as you don't make any fundamental mistakes, what's there to fear? You four need to be a bit careful though."
"He doesn't tolerate mistakes, especially fundamental ones. If you can, try not to make any. But it seems he might give you a chance, right?"
Huang Bo nodded, "It's like each of us carries a 'get out of jail free' card. Once it's used, you have to be more careful in the future. But those silly mistakes really shouldn't happen."
"See, he actually has some humanity. Being strict is for your own good. Go and prepare, learn well from him, I still have to learn from him." Wang Chao said.
The four thanked him, then followed Liu Yiqing and Li Hao towards the operating room.
Wang Chao sighed internally; Liu Banxia's influence alone was massive. Lately, Liu Banxia always gave off a very "urgent" feeling, and this was the oppressive feeling that Liu Yiqing and the others mentioned.
Liu Banxia himself might be able to handle such intensity, but others can't. Got to build up these kids' confidence well, otherwise, if they're crushed and need rebuilding, it won't be so easy. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
A bit of frustration too, having trained together, yet he had more opportunities. And now, it's truly incomparable.
Nowadays, it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that Liu Banxia alone influences almost the entire emergency center; at the very least, he's certainly influenced the first few departments he touched.
