The Enhanced Doctor
Chapter 891: Director Liu (Part 1)
Walking out of the orthopedics clinic, Liu Banxia was pondering about the child's condition.
No matter how he thought about it, his mind was in a chaotic swirl, and none of the possibilities he considered had clear indications. The child's symptoms were too bizarre, displaying both expected and unexpected manifestations.
"Someone, someone help! There's a person unconscious in my car."
While continuing to ponder, someone ran in from the doorway, shouting loudly.
Without much deliberation, Liu Banxia immediately took off running outside.
This was an instinctive reaction, as driving a patient directly to the hospital usually meant that the symptoms were urgent.
"Doctor, he's in the back seat, been unconscious for three or four minutes," the driver hastily explained.
Liu Banxia glanced over and saw a man in his fifties lying askew in the back seat, clutching his chest.
"Transfer him to the gurney first, prepare the defibrillator. Notify the catheter room, call the cardiac surgeon, it looks like a heart attack," Liu Banxia instructed.
Su Wenhao and Li Hao, who came out with him, quickly lifted the patient from the back seat and placed him on the gurney to push him inside.
Liu Banxia clasped the patient's wrist, carefully feeling for his pulse.
"Oh no, cardiac arrest! I'll perform CPR, bring the defibrillator over now," Liu Banxia shouted, pressing down on the patient's chest as he ran.
The movements were awkward, but time was of the essence now.
"Teacher Liu, the defibrillator is here, pre-charge to 200 Joules," Xu Yino shouted. ππππ¦ππππππ·ππ.πΈπ°π
"Stop, everyone hands off," Liu Banxia grabbed the gurney.
The patient had already gone into cardiac arrest; unless his heart restarted, he wouldn't even have a chance to get into the catheter room.
"Zap"
The defibrillator worked, the patient's body arched, but Liu Banxia felt the area around the heart and sensed no response.
"1 unit of epinephrine, 200 Joules, charge it,"
After speaking, Liu Banxia continued performing CPR on the patient.
Su Wenhao quickly injected the epinephrine, while Xu Yino charged for the second time.
"Alright, hands off everyone."
"Zap"
After the second shock, Liu Banxia showed a look of relief; the heart had restarted successfully.
The patient's heart and carotid artery reacted, meaning the resuscitation was at least temporarily successful.
"What's the situation?" Chen Xuehai approached and asked.
"It should be a heart attack; we just dealt with cardiac arrest and succeeded in restart after two shocks. But his heart rate is still weak, only around sixty to seventy," Liu Banxia hurriedly replied.
"Should we send him directly to the catheter room? Any previous medical history?" Chen Xuehai asked.
"The taxi driver brought him in; there's no patient information. I'll check his phone first. You get prepared inside, and I'll update you if there's any information," Liu Banxia said.
Saying this, Liu Banxia also took out the patient's phone from his belongings. Luckily, it was unlocked with a fingerprint.
Chen Xuehai nodded, leading the cardiology interns to take over the patient.

Searching the contact list, Liu Banxia found a card labeled 'Son' and dialed the number immediately.
"Dad, are you almost there?" The voice of the patient's son came through as the call connected.
"I'm Liu Banxia from the emergency center of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Binhai Medical College. Your father just experienced a heart attack and was brought here by a taxi driver," Liu Banxia hurriedly explained.
"He needs surgery right now. Does your father have a history of chronic illnesses, hypertension, heart disease? Do you agree to allow us to do our best to save your father?"
"Uh..."
The other side hesitated, followed by a brief silence in the receiver.
Before Liu Banxia could speak again, the call was abruptly disconnected.
Feeling anxious, Liu Banxia redialed the number, only for it to be hung up after ringing just once. Shortly thereafter, a video call request popped up.
Liu Banxia quickly accepted and switched the camera to show the hospital environment before turning it back.
"Your father just went into cardiac arrest, we've resuscitated him with the defibrillator. He's now being sent to the catheter room and might need a stent, or perhaps a bypass," Liu Banxia explained.
"Doctor, is that really my dad? Let me see," the young man on the other side sounded urgent now.
"Seeing him is okay, but first tell me if your father has diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, or any other chronic conditions?" Liu Banxia asked while heading to the catheter room.
"He has hypertension but hasn't mentioned heart disease or diabetes. Doctor, is my dad serious?" asked the patient's son.
"We haven't done a detailed examination yet. It's an acute heart attack, and his heart rate is currently low, we can't afford to delay. Wait a moment, I'll switch the camera, the doctors are now making surgical preparations," Liu Banxia said.
"Can you see it now? I need your authorization on whether we can proceed with surgery for treatment."
"There are bound to be some risks during the surgery, and the cost of the procedure..."
"Save him, save him no matter the cost. Doctor, where are you from?"
Liu Banxia was interrupted by the patient's son before he could finish.
"From the Emergency Center at Binhai Medical College's Second Affiliated Hospital. Now that we have your authorization, I'll notify the doctors in the operating room," Liu Banxia said.
"We'll head over right away." The patient's son hung up after speaking.
"He has high blood pressure; his son isn't aware of other chronic illnesses." Liu Banxia looked at Chen Xuehai, who was washing his hands.
Chen Xuehai nodded, "Got it, leave it to me."
Liu Banxia came out, feeling a lot more relieved.
Although the surgery was very risky, for this patient, if we don't perform the surgery, the next cardiac arrest might be beyond saving.
As he stepped out of the operating room, Liu Banxia's phone rang, startling him; he thought it was the patient's phone he was holding.
"Assistant Sun, is there something wrong?" Liu Banxia asked, answering the call.
"Nothing much, just finished my work, went to check on Old Wu, and he's recovering well." Sun Changhe said.
"Don't thank me, actually his situation wasn't as severe as the results indicated," Liu Banxia replied.
"But your surgery was excellent, his recovery is really impressive. He's a doctor too, and he is grateful to you." Sun Changhe said.
"If there's nothing urgent this afternoon, don't schedule a surgery. If it's an emergency surgery, try to pass it on to someone else; I'm a bit busy here, will find some free time to chat with you."
After speaking, Sun Changhe hung up the phone.
Liu Banxia felt a bit confused, what's going on? Why was the conversation so vague?
"What's up? Did the patient's family change their mind?" Wang Chao leaned over.
Liu Banxia shook his head, "They've already given authorization for us to do everything to save him. I just received a call from Assistant Sun, spoke half way, telling me to avoid going on stage this afternoon, probably introducing a familiar patient."
Wang Chao blinked, "Haha, no way, if that were the case, he'd definitely say so directly. Think about it, what major event is happening soon?"
Liu Banxia thought for a moment and shook his head, "I haven't heard of any major events, it can't be because those standardized training doctors are reporting this afternoon, right?"
Wang Chao gave him a look, "I'm impressed with you, Deputy Director, isn't this a big deal? He's telling you to wait, the announcement for Deputy Director will definitely be posted."
"Normally, it would be posted in the morning, but maybe your situation is a bit special. It's probably just formally approved today, so it'll be posted this afternoon."
"Really? Is this finally all done?" Liu Banxia asked.
Wang Chao nodded, "I can't think of anything else that would prompt a personal call from the Assistant Director without saying it outright. Figure it out yourself, but for your sake, I won't take advantage of you at tonight's dinner."
Liu Banxia grinned widely, almost showing his molars.
To say he's not happy is nonsense; it's a genuine promotion, and a big one at that.
Thinking about it, Wang Chao's analysis does seem reasonable, that's likely the case. With that in mind, he sent Sun Changhe a message expressing his gratitude.
"Feeling happy?" Wang Chao asked.
"Yeah, I'm happy." Liu Banxia was left grinning foolishly.
"Sigh... I feel like the kid has grown up," Wang Chao threw out a comment, hands behind his back, strolling off to the side.
Liu Banxia didn't mind his "insubordination", anyway he's happy.
"Hehehe..."
Before Liu Banxia could finish his happy moment, Xu Yino came over, chuckling.
"What do you want?" Liu Banxia asked cautiously.
"Teacher Liu, Director Liu, hehehe." Xu Yino lowered his voice.
"You know too?" Liu Banxia asked, surprised.
"Yeah, my mom told me." Xu Yino nodded gleefully.
At this time, Liu Banxia's phone also chimed with a message, it was from Jinshui District Hospital's Chief Director Xu Chengjun, a congratulatory message as well.
He felt quite emotional, he was the person involved yet so delayed in realizing, while others could somehow acquire the information in advance.
But this also confirms one thing, his promotion to Deputy Director is really stable.
"Teacher Liu, want to add a little treat for lunch?" Xu Yino asked.
"Sure, but don't be too flamboyant about it," Liu Banxia nodded.
"No problem." Xu Yino delightedly punched the air and went over to the others to help spread the word.
For some reason, Liu Banxia felt a sense of relief.
Turns out, he thought he didn't care about these titles, but in reality, it was a false sense of superiority. It was just his own perception of indifference, he actually cares a lot.
But that's okay, whatever the case, he'll be Director Liu from now on. Although he was elevated exceptionally, to gain so much support is not just personal connections but recognition of his ability.
