The Female CEO Falls in Love with Me
Chapter 802 - 136: Running Into a Coworker at the Movies
"Right now." Li Yan looked at her and asked, "You don’t blame me for taking so long to come back?"
Yurong was taken aback, then shook her head, "You stayed at your friend’s place for half a month. You can’t just leave whenever you want; even if you’re staying at a hotel, there’s a checkout time. You might not have explained a lot to your friend, but you probably had a meal together, right? Why would I blame you?"
Li Yan felt relieved; her understanding was something he hadn’t expected.
"Don’t think I’m so unreasonable. Some things I can’t accept, but some things I can still understand."
Li Yan sighed inwardly: My wife, I’ve let down your understanding and trust!
But at this moment, of course, was not the right time to tell her. If he told her he just had a birthday dinner with another beautiful woman and... well, even a fool could predict what the result would be. Sometimes, a little concealment is necessary.
"Let’s go! There’s no need to be so formal about watching a movie, let’s go now!" Li Yan grabbed her hand and stood up.
Yurong agreed softly and instinctively tried to pull her hand away, but then felt it was no big deal since they were at home, and at most Yue Yao and Aunt Liu would see. If they saw, it would reassure them; as long as no one from the company saw outside, it was fine.
...
Yurong handed the car keys back to Li Yan, and he led her out by the hand. She was prepared for Yue Yao and Aunt Liu to see this, but neither of them did.
When they reached the garage, Yurong instinctively went to drive her own car, but Li Yan stopped her.
"I’ll drive you!"
"Hmm?"
"Heh, you aren’t going to work now, it’s like we’re heading home. If we drive separately, it just makes the relationship look bad, and it’s inconvenient to talk and chat, which kills the mood. Plus, with just the two of us, driving an extra car consumes more gas and harms the environment."
"Oh... alright." Yurong nodded and agreed, then tried to give Li Yan the keys to the Benz.
Li Yan shook his head and took her up to the Lexus.
After getting in, Yurong still felt a bit awkward. She usually only let Li Yan drive her car when they were visiting her family, as a display of affection. Otherwise, she drove her own car.
As the car drove out, she thought she should find a topic to avoid silence and asked, "What movie are we seeing? Is there a good movie out right now?"
"There’s an R-rated film out lately, perfect for couples." Li Yan joked.
"R... rated?" Yurong was speechless. His first time taking her to the movies, and it’s for an R-rated film? That’s just a bit too... even for couples, it’s not appropriate!
"Haha... You must not go to the cinema often, right?" Li Yan laughed and asked, seeing her expression.
Seeing his reaction, Yurong guessed he must be joking, "What’s so funny? I don’t have time; if there’s a movie I want to see, buying the DVD and watching it at home is the same, isn’t it?"
"Of course there’s a difference. Even if home setups are good enough to mimic cinema effects, they lack atmosphere, and the screen is still smaller. Watching on a computer, you just follow the plot. But in a theater, you experience the communal vibe of watching with many others, and see great effects—music, art, settings, special effects, performances—all to be appreciated, not just the plot. That’s why they’re pushing IMAX theaters now; the towering screens with 3D effects are immersive."
Yurong listened quietly, realizing she couldn’t remember the last time she went to a theater. The reason was... no time! With study and work, entertainment and socializing naturally took a back seat. Spending hours watching a movie seemed like a waste, but buying DVDs avoids travel time, waiting for the start, and she could watch anytime. She hadn’t thought about the differences before, but Li Yan’s words reminded her of what he said earlier in the morning...
"Don’t worry, domestic films aren’t rated. You won’t see R-rated films in theaters; Yun Country doesn’t allow it. The R-rated market in Cloud Island and Lan Island has been overtaken by Beihai Country’s AV, so few people want to make them."
"Hum, you seem to know this best..." Yurong scoffed lightly at his talk on R-rated films.
"Haha, my dear CEO, I’ve been appointed as the manager of your film company, making me a film industry professional. If I don’t know this stuff, how would I run the company?"
Yurong’s expression changed slightly: "You’re not thinking of having Heavenly Film produce R-rated movies, are you?"
"I’d like to, but like I said, Yun Country doesn’t allow it. To film them, you’d have to go through Cloud Island or Lan Island. And considering their recent R-rated market, only the Oscar-winning director Ang Lee’s ’Lust, Caution’ was a big box office hit. If a director of that caliber wants to make one, we’d certainly invest, but for now, it seems unlikely?"
