Chapter 1087 - 768: First Battle in the Abyss
The eternally burning sky.
This is the scene that can never be removed from the Abyss, and it is also the most iconic view of the Abyss.
And at this moment.
At Level 1121 of the Blood Battle Battlefield.
A war broke out in a remote area far from the main battlefield, as a demon army arrived here, sensing the presence of outsiders.
This group of outsiders, separated from the main force, would be torn to shreds by them.
The crimson sky was torn by even filthier black smoke and the flashes of spell explosions.
The air was no longer just air, but a dense mixture of burning sulfur, putrid blood, and fear. Every breath felt like swallowing scorching sand.
"Ahhhhh! Tear them apart! Pull out the guts of those Iron Cans!"
A Frenzy Demon, covered in proliferating bone spikes, roared wildly, wielding a Serrated Greatsword as he charged at the Night Watcher’s tightly knit Shield Wall.
Only to be pierced into a sieve by several Long Spears accurately thrust through the gaps in the shields, spraying foul blood onto the cold metal, sizzling.
The charge of the demons is always chaotic, even if they have superior numbers and extreme madness, knowing no retreat.
But in the face of an orderly defense, they sometimes appear somewhat foolish.
The tide of demons is not a monolith.
One cannot expect all demons to be fearless. Amidst chaotic demons, there cannot be only madness and bravery, or else it wouldn’t be called chaos.
Cowardice and timidity are still etched on the minds and bodies of some demons.
At the rear, a massive Demon Commander with twisted horns and a thick shell was brandishing a burning rune-engraved giant whip, lashing at the cowering Inferior Demon crowd.
His roar was like rolling thunder, overpowering part of the battlefield noise:
"Scum! Worms! Charge! Use your bodies to level that wall! Anyone who retreats, I’ll pull out their soul and feed it to the worms’ rears!"
With one lash, several Inferior Demons who could not dodge were turned to charcoal, screaming in agony.
Under the mortal threat of the Commander and the drive of their bloodthirsty instincts, more Inferior Demons with bloodshot eyes trampled over the corpses of their kin, emitting meaningless shrieks, surging toward the Night Watcher’s line like a tide once again.
What greeted them was silent and deadly efficiency.
"Shields steady!"
A deep voice rang out at the front row of the Night Watchers, not a shout, but a clear command.
The large tower shields stood immovable; the claws and fangs of the Inferior Demons could only scrape out grating sounds and occasional sparks on them.
For those troops newly arriving in the Abyss, every charge and slaughter by the demons could make their hearts tremble with fear.
But not for the Night Watchers.
Perhaps it was their first time in the Abyss, but fighting demons had long begun for them, who knows when.
Even when the Night Watchers were weak, they could gather in groups, determined to resist those powerful demons, let alone now.
Facing demons, their hearts wavered not at all.
The sounds ringing in their ears from the Abyss were treated like wind passing by.
Everything about the Night Watchers could be questioned, except their will to oppose those corrupting sounds, which was beyond doubt.
Since the start of their battles, seductive sounds from the Evil God have never ceased.
So during battle in the Abyss, the sounds echoing in their ears have long been ignored.
"Stab!"
The order was concise and powerful.
The Long Spear darted out like venomous snakes, precise and deadly, and every retraction carried back a spray of foul blood and demon limbs.
The Night Watchers at the rear calmly delivered the killing blow, instantly dismembering any demon fortunate enough to pass through the spear forest.
The demons’ hot blood splattered.
The burning blood droplets hit their bodies, easily blocked by the tight Armor they wore.
Not even draining a single drop of their Blood Volume.
Demons are chaotic.
The Night Watchers represent Order. Be it the Power in them or the Defense lines they presented.
At the forefront of the clash between Order and chaos, Raelia was an indisputable storm of destruction.
Her towering Centaur form charged back and forth among the demons, and every heavy stomp of her horse body covered in a bluish skeleton was accompanied by dull bone-crushing sounds, trampling the pouncing Inferior Demons into the scorched ground.
The Long-Handed War Axe "Oathkeeper" in her hand had long transformed into a deadly Silver whirlwind.
Raelia had a penchant for collecting Weapons, so every time on the battlefield, one could see her using different Weapons according to different situations.
A massive Tauren tried to ambush from the flank, bellowing and raising a gigantic stone hammer.
Raelia didn’t even fully turn around, merely powering through with her strong hind legs, her horse body driving her upper body in a smooth spin, as "Oathkeeper" swept out a streak of dazzling arc.
"Moo——!"
The Tauren’s bellow came to an abrupt halt, its thick neck cleaved open completely, its massive head tumbling to the ground, and the headless body collapsed in a spray of black blood.
"Waste."
Raelia’s icy voice pierced clearly through the battlefield noise, filled with undisguised contempt.
"For such a big guy, I thought you’d be tougher."
Her eyes, sharp as an eagle’s, scanned the battlefield, looking for a bigger threat.
A Balrog Flame Demon noticed her.
This blazing giant roared deafeningly, flames swirling all around, wielding a fiery long whip, the tip shrieking through the air as it lashed towards Raelia, while opening its massive maw, with searing sulfurous flames gathering deep in its throat.
"Flame Demon! Focus fire!" A voice from a Mage in the Night Watcher’s line rang out, calm and swift. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
But Raelia had already moved.
Facing the incoming fiery whip, she didn’t dodge; instead, she charged towards the whip’s shadow! The axe blade of "Oathkeeper" precisely swung upward, entwined with the glow of Demon-Breaking runes, clashing fiercely with the fiery long whip!
"Clang!"
The colossal clash of metal accompanied by fire bursting forth! The runes flashed, seemingly splitting the long whip made purely of Hellfire into pieces! Sparks scattered like a downpour of fire rain.
In the moment of the Flame Demon’s shock, Raelia had rushed close.
The flames in the Flame Demon’s mouth were about to spew out.
"Taste this!"
Raelia shouted sternly, and the War Axe, with all her strength and the inertia of her Charge, crashed down like a descending Silver comet, striking fiercely at the Flame Demon’s chest core where the fireball was about to form!
"No!"
The Flame Demon managed only a single roar mixed with anger and fear.
"Boom!!!"
The War Axe struck precisely at the unstable Energy Core!
A violent explosion centered around the Flame Demon erupted thunderously! Scorching shockwaves, along with burning demon fragments and scalding rock shards, spread violently in all directions.
Inferior Demons and Frenzy Demons nearby were instantly vaporized or ignited, emitting shrill wails.
Even the Demon Commander overseeing the battle was staggered by the shockwave, his curses changing into a roar of astonishment and rage.
This Balrog Flame Demon could be considered one of the strongest demons among them.
In terms of the Night Watchers’ Level classification, it would be at least around Level Eleven.
Though this is the Blood Battle Battlefield, it still counts as part of the Abyss, so here, demons also receive bonuses.
But even in such circumstances, it only took a few exchanges with Raelia for it to be slain on the spot by her.
