Chapter 38: The Princess Arrives

Verati simplified the magic algorithm that allowed a mage to teleport to the point where it became easy for most mages past a certain power level to use the skill, and teleportation became a very common means of transportation among powerful mages! But even with how much simpler the skill had become, teleportation was still seen as an impossible goal for most mages because the number of mages who would get to the level where they could use this skill safely did not even reach five percent of the total mage population!

And that was why Verati’s new invention had been such an unbelievable innovation to the world of mages! Verati had created a rune using the same magic algorithm that the Teleportation skill uses, and by placing the runes on certain areas within the kingdom, Verati made it possible for people to teleport from one rune to another without ever needing to learn the teleport skill! This had been one of Verati’s most impressive inventions to date, and it had completely revolutionised the way people travelled and carried out business!

The invention had become so popular that the king himself had to step in and regulate how the runes were used! It became illegal for anyone to use the rune without a royal permit, and there were guards positioned at every rune to make sure people weren’t teleporting into places where they should not be going!

There were three Teleportation runes within the Verati Academy. One of them was at the initiation center, which the newly admitted students could use to teleport all their luggage into the school easily! The second one was at the school courtyard where visitors could come to see their friends or children, and the third one was a secret location right outside the headmaster’s office that was only open to very important guests!

It was in this upstairs room that Princess Vivian appeared with all her guards and luggage!

"We’re here!"

Vivian raised her hand excitedly as she looked around the massive room! Vivian couldn’t believe she was finally here! She could finally see Percy! There were guards standing around the teleportation rune protectively, and on the other side of the room, there was a small delegation that had come to welcome her! At the front of this small group was a young woman with light blond hair and green eyes! This was Headmaster Leonart’s granddaughter, Rosaline!

"Rosa!"

The princess allowed one of the guards to carry her down from the teleportation platform before she raised her gown and jogged over to where Rosa was standing with the other teachers. Once the princess came closer, the teachers all bowed respectfully, and Rosaline spoke with a small smile.

"Welcome to Verati Academy, your highness. It’s very nice to see you again."

Princess Vivian and Rosaline were familiar with one another because of how many times they ran into each other at noble parties or executive balls. As one of the most influential men in the entire kingdom, Leonart was always invited to these parties between the elites, and Leonart would sometimes take his granddaughter there with him so she could meet the children of high-ranking members of society! After meeting so many times, Rosaline could say that she and the princess were close enough to call each other by their first names! But Rosaline knew it would be best not to do something like that when they were in public.

Vivian curtsied to the teachers in greeting, and she smiled as she stepped forward and hugged Rosaline.

"It’s nice to see you too, Rosa. I’ve missed you. You never come to our parties anymore."

Rosa smiled apologetically.

"I’m sorry, your highness. I’ve been very busy with my new job. I can barely get enough time to myself recently."

Vivian pouted slightly, and she spoke in a teasing voice.

"Are you sure you haven’t gotten yourself a boyfriend and forgotten all about me?"

Rosa’s cheeks immediately reddened, and she waved her hand quickly! Of course that wasn’t the case! Vivian’s face immediately burst into a wide smile when she saw the blush on Rosa’s cheek, and Vivian spoke in amusement.

"You’re still as shy as ever about men, aren’t you? You’ll never get married if you continue like this, Rosa. Go find yourself a boyfriend!"

"Oh, stop teasing me already. Who’s talking about marriage? I still have so much work to do before I even think about that. Come on, the headmaster is waiting for you."

Rosa smiled as she tried to lead Vivian towards the headmaster’s office, but Rosa was surprised when Vivian’s smile suddenly dimmed. Vivian looked like someone just told her the worst news, and Rosa asked Vivian what was wrong.

"Didn’t you want to meet with the headmaster?"

Rosa wondered what could possibly make Vivian so sad all of a sudden, and Vivian asked.

"Do I have to go and see him first? I thought I would be allowed to see Percy immediately."

Rosa blinked, and then she blinked again.

"What...?"

Rosa didn’t intend for her words to come out in such a shocked tone, but she just couldn’t help herself in that moment! Did Vivian just say she wanted to see Percy? As in, Percy the librarian!?

Princess Vivian’s maid, Fio, appeared from behind with two large suitcases in her hands, and she bowed to Rosa respectfully.

"It’s a pleasure to see you again, Miss Rosaline. I understand your surprise, but Her Highness was under the impression that she would get to meet with Master Percival the moment she arrived. We were only informed about the meeting with the headmaster recently, so you must pardon her reaction."

Rosaline honestly didn’t know what to say to this! It was so shocking that she began to wonder if she was asleep and this was all just a dream! Was that librarian really this special!? Not only was her grandfather acting like the librarian was the most important person in the world, but even the princess of the kingdom was reacting so sadly just because she wouldn’t get to see the librarian immediately! Who in the world is that man!?

’He has to be some sort of secret prince or something! Maybe he’s a noble from beyond the great sea, or maybe he’s a hidden agent that only the higher-ups know about! I’ve looked into his background for weeks, and I haven’t found anything special about him!’

Rosaline tried to understand what was so special about that Percival, but no matter how hard she tried, it just wasn’t possible for her to figure it out, and she was forced to just accept that this simple man had such an intense effect on so many powerful people!

Rosa spoke to the princess with a small smile.

"I’m sure the meeting with the headmaster won’t take long at all, your highness. He simply wants to welcome you to the school."

Vivian let out a long sigh when she heard this, but Fio poked Vivian’s back and forced her to stand straight again! Vivian quickly composed herself since she was in public, and she nodded to Rosaline.

"Very well, then. Please lead the way, Rosa."

Vivian smiled, but it was obvious to anyone looking at her that she was not happy about it at all! Rosa did her best not to think too much about the princess’ expression, and she simply bowed and began leading them out of the teleportation room! Vivian and Fio followed behind Rosaline, and it took a few minutes for them to arrive at the headmaster’s door. Rosa knocked twice, and then she opened the door and held it for the princess to enter.
